RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TEST

Time: 2 hours
Directions: Read carefully BEFORE beginning the test!
1. Please allow 2 hours for the exam. You may be done sooner, but do not take longer than that.
2. DO NOT TYPE. Write in cursive and connect letters. Your ability to hand-write legibly in
Russian is one of the skills that are being tested.
3. DO NOT USE DICTIONARIES, GRAMMARS, OR ANY OTHER HELP. If you do, you are likely to get
placed in a course above your actual ability, and will need to change courses and/or receive a
poor grade.
4. Complete the exam in order. Do not spend too much time on any section. If you do not know
or do not remember something, move on. If you have time at the end, you can come back and
try again. UNLESS YOUR RUSSIAN IS ADVANCED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO
COMPLETE THE WHOLE EXAM, and that is ok. We just need to know where you are to
advise you which course will benefit you the most.
5. Read directions for each section of the test before completing it.
