FOLK SONGS AND MUSIC
Collected by Francis Collinson
Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, EFDSS
INTRODUCTION
The material comprises 6 numbered folders of notation relating to traditional songs
with some music. Most of the individual items are apparently primary source
material which appear to have been collected by Francis Collinson himself or
supplied by listeners to "Country Magazine". Other entries are transcriptions and
copies of previously published material (apparently for purposes of comparison) or
notes in these folders for arrangements of songs by Collinson. The outline contents
of the folders are:English songs I All songs from various singers in England. All items numbered.
English songs II, III, IV Mainly songs, some correspondence associated with
songs. All items numbered.
English Songs V Songs and correspondence (some correspondence on
publications and similar issues). The items are in this folder were not numbered and
numbers have been assigned during indexing.
English Songs VI Songs and letters, other correspondence. MS of arrangements
for "Country Magazine". The items are in this folder were not numbered and
numbers have been assigned during indexing.
The following detailed catalogue refers to the primary material only as the secondary
material is presumed to be available elsewhere.
