You will find many conspiracy
theories on the internet about the link
between cancer and environmental
pollution:- the oil industr y, chemical
and pharmaceutical companies and
the food industr y. What are we to
make of all these claims? At present
the link between breast cancer and
environmental chemicals is simply
unknown.
We know that breast cancer is partly based on your
genetic make-up and partly based on other factors
such as diet, lifestyle and hormonal factors.
Breast cancer is much more common in westernised
countries. As a “ low risk ” countr y becomes more
westernised, the risk of breast cancer rises. Some of
this rise may be due to changes in behaviour (such as
having children at a later age and not breast feeding).
Some may be due to the use of pharmaceutical
products like the oral contraceptives and HRT.
