Change – HT 2013 – Steffen Werther
Updated reading list
Reading advice: You should start with the Esping-Andersen book - which is absolutely
essential. The book introduces Esping-Andersen’s typology and his view on more recent
developments referring to different welfare regimes.
Parlier’s anthology presents an overview- followed by various detailed case studies - of the
“conservative” (continental) welfare state.
Noble discusses the US-American welfare state and its history.
After that you can go on with the articles of Arts /Gelissen, Morissens/Sainsbury and Bambra
which present part of the critique that was formulated against Esping-Andersen’s typology.
