LIGURIANS IN THE WORLD ASSOCIATION Associazione Liguri nel Mondo, San Francisco, California Founded December 16,1987 The Seal of the Association depicts the Swan, oldest historical symbol of the Ligurian people posed on the world globe, Symbolizing where Ligurians and their decedents now live, together with the Cross of St. George, the emblem of the Ancient Republic of Genoa, still displayed on the City’s official flag, and latin motto “Gens Lingusica in Orbe” “Ligurian People of the World” America has long celebrated Its discovery in 1492 by the Genoese/Ligurian explorer Christophe Colombo. Since the great time of America's discovery, some fifteen generations of Ligurians have emigrated to all parts of the world, carrying with them a longing to bestow pride on their homeland through their accomplishments in a new land. While living and working in their respective new countries, llgurians have never lost the drive to remain close to the traditions and customs of their homeland, Liguria. It is for these reasons that the Associazione Liguri nel Mondo (Ligurians in the World Association) was founded in Genova, Italy. its chief purpose being to bring together all Ligurians throughout the world in order to reestablish closer ties with their Ligurian heritage. The Associazione promotes and perpetuates the finest of Ligurian customs, traditions, history and culture. Today there are eighty-two chapters in more than thirty countries around the world. The San Francisco Chapter of the Associazione Liguri Nel Mondo was founded in 1987. In 2011its membership grew to 268 ligurians from throughout the Bay Area,from Healdsburg to Gilroy, who continue to develop and maintain relationships with one another through the events and communications of the Association. The Association Intends to: Establish a Ligurian migration center, connecting Ligurians of the San Francisco Area Publish a Ligurian periodical and newsletter Maintain a Webpage www.sfliguri.com Promote and disseminate the culture and traditions of the Ligurian people. Encourage exhib1t sand trade shows featuring Ligurian culrure and economic activities. Disseminate educational materials on the Region of Liguria. Promote conferences and meetings among Ligurlans allover the world.
