The BLM is planning to burn a 28 acre unit off Boyer Road (BLM road 30-6-11.0), two miles northwest of Riddle, Oregon, beginning Friday, October 1, 2010, through Monday, October 4, 2010. The area to be burned is not accessible to the public at this time. Smoke may be visible from Riddle and Interstate 5.
The BLM is hosting two "meet and greet" meetings to introduce Marcia deChadenedes, the new San Juan Islands National Monument manager. The meetings will be held on March 12 and 19, 2014. The BLM will also be sharing information about the San Juan Islands Advisory Committee, which is now recruiting new members.
The BLM in Oregon/Washington announced that it is seeking public nominations for 15 open positions on its three Resource Advisory Councils (RACs). The Eastern Washington, John Day-Snake and Southeast Oregon RACs advise the BLM and the US Forest Service on public land issues. Nominations must be submitted by March 12, 2012. There are vacancies in Commodity, Conservation and Community categories.
The BLM has vacant positions on the Eastern Washington Resource Advisory Council (RAC). The RAC advises and recommends management strategies for Federal lands administered by the BLM in the State of Washington and by the Colville National Forest. There are six open positions. Nominations will be accepted through July 8, 2011.
The BLM has recently published a Scoping Report which contains a summary of comments received and the nine main issues that the BLM intends to address during this plan amendment process. The BLM has initiated planning for the Steam Donkey Echo Environmental Assessment and is seeking comments through a public meeting on September 24, 2013, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the BLM Eugene District Office (3106 Pierce Parkway, Springfield, Oregon). The project includes variable retention harvest and thinning treatments to improve habitat for species listed under the Endangered Species Act including the Northern Spotted Owls and Marbled Murrelets. Thinning in riparian areas may be considered to improve riparian function to benefit coho salmon habitat.
