Each Health & Safety entry must be carried out:
Access Equipment Used on Site to Rewire Roof Fan
1.Before use the ladder was checked for any damage to the stiles and rungs.
2. Any dirt or grease was removed before use.
3. Ground was level and solid to take the weight.
4. Ladder extended to 3 rungs above roof level.
5. No work carried out on the ladder
6. No heavy weights carried up ladder
7. Ladder secured at the top using ropes and anchor bolts.
8. Area at base of ladder roped off to prevent access by unauthorised persons
•Within a different working environment
(e.g. entry no 1 – industrial, entry no 2 – domestic)
•Using 2 different types of access equipment
(e.g. entry No 1 – Ladders, entry No 2 – scaffold)

1. Materials and tools ordered from job request sheet, taken to van.
2. Journeyman walked around job to carry out risk assessment.
3. Restaurant manager contacted – work and timescale agreed.
4. Area marked out with 4 traffic cones and ladder erected.

Before use check:
• No rails or rungs are split or cracked.
• Rungs are clean and dry.
• Surface to be used is firm and level
• Ladder extends beyond working platform by 3 rungs.
• Secured at the top or bottom as necessary.
• 1 in 4 rule is used (See diagram)
•RULES FOR USING LADDERS
•Only work on a ladder for a maximum of 15 - 30 minutes at a time
•Only carry light materials and tools (up to 10 kg)
•Always grip the ladder when climbing
•Do not overreach – make sure your belt buckle (navel) stays within the stiles
•Keep both feet on the same rung or step throughout the task
•Do not work off the top three rungs – this provides a handhold
•Try to keep three points of contact with the ladder
