BRIGID OF KILDARE CHURCH DUBLIN, OHIO “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” James 2:14-17 Our Social Action Committee will be hosting Sandwich Saturday on April 18 at 9:00 am in the school cafeteria. The calendar for this year is on our website at: www.stbrigidofkildare.org under: Sacraments & Services, RCIA, 2014-2015 Calendar. April 5: Easter Sunday April 30: Getting involved at St. Brigid (Deacon Don & Deacon Frank) May 24: Pentecost Mass with Bishop Campbell at St. Joseph Cathedral - formal ending of this year’s RCIA process. For more information, contact Mr. Paul Zemanek at: [email protected]. Alleluia! It is back. Since Ash Wednesday, we have not heard the Alleluia in Church. “Alleluia” returned at the Easter Vigil. The Church bells rang out and it was once again declared that Jesus Christ IS RISEN. Alleluia means “God be Praised.” Sometimes it is spelled Hallelujah. We recognize this because of Handel’s Hallelujah chorus used at Christmas time. It is also used in other religions. Christianity and Islam originated in the Middle East. Any Christian in this area when asked about the Name of God, would say “Allah!” Possibly Hallelujah means “Praise, Allah.” In Judaism it would be “Praise, Yahweh.” Underneath all the translations and the many different faith traditions is the core idea that we are called to praise God. Unbelievably as it may seem, we sometimes forget to do that – we forget to praise God. Easter is sometimes more associated with the Easter Bunny than with the Resurrection of Jesus. As you move through your days, let yourself use the word “alleluia” as a prayer itself. You might also get into the habit of using "Mashallah" or "Mash'Allah." This is an Arabic phrase (probably used by Jesus). It is used to show appreciation for a person or happening. It shows respect, and also reminds us that everything is achieved by the will of God. The closest English translation is, "God willed it." It is used to show joy and praise, and is evoked upon hearing good news. JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN!!! Mashallah! Mashallah! - Sr, Teresa Tuite, OP The Joseph J. Laihr and Adeline Pax Laihr Scholarship has been established within the Diocese of Columbus to support and encourage future teachers and nurses who feel a deep calling to the vocation of service. BOGO Book Fair Starts Sunday, April 19 After 9:00 Mass until 2:00 pm in the school Library Ends Friday, April 24 at Noon Everyone Welcome! Body and Soul by Stephen Cianca - Books for Sale Body and Soul, Provisions for the Journey is a combination of poetry, personal experiences, and favorite recipes written by Stephen Cianca, a St. Brigid of Kildare parishioner who lost his battle with cancer last year. The book was finished and published by his wife Kathleen, who has made it available for all to read about his inspiring journey. St. Brigid of Kildare will be selling copies of the book for $7.25 (cash or check payable to St. Brigid of Kildare). You can purchase your copy at the St. Brigid gift shop during open hours (10 am - 12 p.m. on Sunday Social days, or check the bulletin for the latest dates). Copies will also be available in the parish office. The books are available beginning Monday, March 30. Below is the Preface of the book, written by Stephen Cianca: This book was sparked by a Caring Bridge site that my wife, Kathleen, created as I deal with end stage cancer. Kathleen asked me to post comments on the site for family and friends. Then someone asked if I would post some of my favorite Italian recipes (I am a very good Italian cook). Finally, I thought I would add some of my poetry that I have written over the years. That's how this book was born. I have found that this period of dying that I am going through, or perhaps better called this transition time to new life, has been filled with many graces and blessings. I feel a surge of generativity--God has given me the time to give away all my treasures that I cannot take with me into eternity, so I am spending them here where they will do good. This book is a part of that treasure given away. I intend it as food for your soul, your body, and your heart, provisions to sustain you on your journey to heaven. May it be a source of blessing for you. --Stephen Cianca Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Wednesday: 8:00 am—6:15 pm Friday: 8:00 am—12:00 noon Buy one, get one FREE!! Hundreds of titles! Books for all ages! Holiday books, Cookbooks, Picture books, Chapter books and more!
