Izmir University of Economics EkoVPN Application In order to benefit from EkoVPN service, first of all you need to have a client application on your computer. Linux or Mac Os operating systems have this by default, however, Microsoft based operating systems require installation of this software. This document is to inform you about installation of OpenVPN application in Windows operating systems. Installation of OpenVPN: 1. Download the client program to your computer on IT Directorate’s IT Support web page: http://itsupport.ieu.edu.tr – Downloads – Open VPN İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Bilgi İşlem Müdürlüğü - 2014 2. Double click on the file you downloaded and start the installation process. 3. Click on “I Agree” in the License Agreement section. 4. Click on “Install” button without making any changes in the installation file settings. 6. During the installation process, you will see a warning about “Hardware Installation”. The reason for this warning is due to downloading the drivers required for VPN. In Windows XP operating system, “Continue Anyway” option is selected. İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Bilgi İşlem Müdürlüğü - 2014 For Windows Vista and Windows 7, please check the "Always trust software from "OpenVPN Technologies, Inc." box and click on “Install” button. 7. When the Setup Wizard is completed, first click on “Next” and then “Finish” button. 8. OpenVPN client installation is completed. Adjusting the EkoVPN Settings After installing the OpenVPN client application, you need to adjust your personal security settings for one time only. In this step, you will be needing the special certificates and configuration files given to you by IT Directorate. Please apply to [email protected] / [email protected] addresses in order to get your personal security certificate and configuration files. Please note that steps 1 and 2 are only required for initial installation. If you’ve already completed these steps, please continue with the 3rd step. 1. Open the configuration files sent to you as “zip” in the desktop in order to adjust EkoVPN settings. There will be a folder named “vpn” and “username.ovpn” with your name. İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Bilgi İşlem Müdürlüğü - 2014 2. Please carry these files (“vpn” and “username.ovpn”) under “C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config” folder. It is very important to follow these steps carefully. 3. Please run the “OpenVPN GUI” program on desktop. İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Bilgi İşlem Müdürlüğü - 2014 4. When “OpenVPN GUI” starts running, OpenVPN icon will pop up on the task bar. 5. Right click on “OpenVPN GUI” icon and select “Connect”. 6. Enter your EkoID and EkoID Password in order to connect. Security Warning: We strongly urge you not to use the personalized certificates and configuration files on public computers. If you happened to follow the above mentioned steps on a public computer, please remember to remove the EkoVPN settings on the respective computer.
