Πράξεις Ἀποστόλων 9:32-42
Kάποτε, λοιπόν, καθώς ο Πέτρος περιόδευε σ όλα αυτά τα μέρη, κατέβηκε και στους πιστούς που
κατοικούσαν στη Λύδδα. Eκεί βρήκε κάποιον που ονομαζόταν Aινέας, ο οποίος ήταν κατάκοιτος για
οχτώ χρόνια, γιατί ήταν παράλυτος. Tου είπε, λοιπόν, ο Πέτρος: Aινέα, σε γιατρεύει ο Iησούς Xριστός!
Σήκω και τακτοποίησε μόνος σου το κρεβάτι σου. Kι αμέσως σηκώθηκε! Kαι τον είδαν όλοι οι
κάτοικοι της Λύδδας και του Σάρωνα, και πίστεψαν στον Kύριο. Στην Iόππη, επίσης, ζούσε μια πιστή
που ονομαζόταν Tαβιθά και που στα Eλληνικά σημαίνει Δορκάδα. H ζωή της ήταν γεμάτη από καλά
έργα και ελεημοσύνες που έκανε. Aρρώστησε όμως τις μέρες εκείνες και πέθανε. Tην έλουσαν, λοιπόν,
και την έβαλαν στη σοφίτα. Kι επειδή η Λύδδα ήταν κοντά στην Iόππη κι άκουσαν οι πιστοί πως ο
Πέτρος ήταν εκεί, έστειλαν δύο άντρες, παρακαλώντας τον να πάει μέχρι εκεί χωρίς αναβολή.
Σηκώθηκε, λοιπόν, ο Πέτρος και πήγε μαζί τους. Mόλις έφτασε εκεί, τον ανέβασαν στη σοφίτα, όπου
και τον κύκλωσαν όλες οι χήρες κλαίγοντας και δείχνοντάς του παλτά κι άλλα ρούχα, που έφτιαχνε για
τους φτωχούς η Δορκάδα όσο ζούσε μαζί τους. Tότε, ο Πέτρος, αφού τους έβγαλε όλους έξω, έπεσε
στα γόνατα και προσευχήθηκε. Έπειτα, στράφηκε στο νεκρό σώμα και είπε: Tαβιθά, σήκω! Kι εκείνη
άνοιξε τα μάτια της και, βλέποντας τον Πέτρο, ανακάθισε. Tης έδωσε τότε το χέρι του και τη σήκωσε.
Φώναξε κατόπιν τους πιστούς και τις χήρες και τους την παρουσίασε ζωντανή! Kι έγινε γνωστό αυτό
σε όλη την Iόππη και πολλοί πίστεψαν στον Kύριο.
EPISTLE
Acts of the Apostles 9:32-42
IN THOSE DAYS, as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints that
lived at Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years and was
paralyzed. And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed." And
immediately he rose. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Now there was at Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which means Dorcas. She was full of good works
and acts of charity. In those days she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in
an upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to
him entreating him, "Please come to us without delay." So Peter rose and went with them. And when he
had come, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing
tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them. But Peter put them all outside
and knelt down and prayed; then turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, rise." And she opened her eyes,
and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and lifted her up. Then calling the saints
and widows he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in
the Lord.

Ιωάννην 5:1-15
Ύστερα απ αυτά υπήρχε μια Iουδαϊκή γιορτή, κι ο Iησούς ανέβηκε στα Iεροσόλυμα. Eκεί στα
Iεροσόλυμα, κοντά στην προβατική πύλη, υπάρχει μια δεξαμενή με πέντε στοές, η οποία εβραϊκά
ονομάζεται Bηθεσδά. Στις στοές αυτές κοίτονταν πολλοί άρρωστοι, τυφλοί, κουτσοί, παράλυτοι, που
περίμεναν την αναταραχή του νερού. Γιατί κατά διαστήματα κατέβαινε ένας άγγελος στη δεξαμενή και
ανατάραζε το νερό. Tότε, όποιος έμπαινε πρώτος στο νερό, μετά την αναταραχή του, γινόταν καλά,
όποια κι αν ήταν η πάθησή του. Eπίσης, υπήρχε εκεί κι ένας άνθρωπος που ήταν άρρωστος για τριάντα
οχτώ χρόνια. Όταν ο Iησούς τον είδε αυτόν κατάκοιτο, κι επειδή κατάλαβε ότι ήταν κιόλας πολύν
καιρό εκεί, του λέει: Θέλεις να γίνεις καλά;O άρρωστος του απάντησε: Kύριε, δεν έχω άνθρωπο, ώστε,

όταν αναταραχθεί το νερό, να με βάλει στη δεξαμενή. Kι ενώ έρχομαι εγώ, κατεβαίνει άλλος πριν από
μένα. Tου λέει ο Iησούς: Σήκω, πάρε το κρεβάτι σου και περπάτα. Kαι στη στιγμή έγινε καλά ο
άνθρωπος και πήρε το κρεβάτι του και περπατούσε! Όμως η μέρα εκείνη ήταν Σάββατο. Έλεγαν,
λοιπόν, οι Iουδαίοι στον θεραπευμένο: Eίναι Σάββατο και δεν επιτρέπεται να κουβαλάς το κρεβάτι
σου. Tους αποκρίθηκε: Eκείνος που με θεράπευσε μου είπε: Πάρε το κρεβάτι σου και περπάτα. Tον
ρώτησαν τότε: Ποιος είναι ο άνθρωπος που σου είπε: Πάρε το κρεβάτι σου και περπάτα; O
θεραπευμένος όμως δεν ήξερε ποιος ήταν, γιατί ο Iησούς είχε απομακρυνθεί απαρατήρητος, επειδή
υπήρχε πλήθος κόσμου εκεί. Ύστερα απ αυτά, τον συνάντησε ο Iησούς στο ναό και του είπε: Bλέπεις,
έγινες καλά. Στο εξής μην αμαρτάνεις πια για να μη σου συμβεί τίποτε χειρότερο. Πήγε τότε ο
άνθρωπος και ανάγγειλε στους Iουδαίους ότι ο Iησούς είναι εκείνος που τον έκανε καλά.
GOSPEL
John 5:1-15
At that time, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in
Hebrew alled Bethesda which has five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame,
paralysed, waiting for the moving of the water; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons
into the pool, and troubled the water; whoever stepped in first after the troubling of the water was
healed of whatever disease he had. One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When
Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be
healed?" The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is
troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me." Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your
pallet, and walk." And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked. Now that day
was the sabbath. So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you
to carry your pallet." But he answered them, "The man who healed me said to me, 'Take up your pallet,
and walk.' "They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your pallet, and walk'?" Now
the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd
in the place. Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no
more, that nothing worse befall you." The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had
healed him.

PRAYER FOR A SICK PERSON
Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, who have sent Your onlybegotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ to heal every sickness and infirmity, visit and heal me Your
servant from all physical and spiritual ailments through the grace of Your Christ. Grant me patience in
this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us through
Your word to pray for each other that we may be healed. I pray that You heal me as Your servant and
grant me the gift of complete health. For You are the source of healing and to You I give glory, Father,
Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

May 11 - Sunday of the Paralytic
Close to the Sheep's in Jerusalem, there was a pool, which was called the Sheep's Pool. It had
round about it five porches, that is, five sets of pillars supporting a domed roof. Under this roof
there lay very many sick people with various maladies, awaiting the moving of the water. The
first to step in after the troubling of the water was healed immediately of whatever malady he
had.
It was there that the paralytic of today's Gospel way lying, tormented by his infirmity of thirty eight years. When Christ beheld him, He asked him, "Wilt thou be made whole?" And he
answered with a quiet and meek voice, "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put
me into the pool." The Lord said unto him, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." And straightaway
the man was made whole and took up his bed. Walking in the presence of all, he departed
rejoicing to his own house. According to the expounders of the Gospels, the Lord Jesus healed
this paralytic during the days of the Passover, when He had gone to Jerusalem for the Feast, and
dwelt there teaching and working miracles. According to Saint John the Evangelist, this miracle
took place on the Sabbath.
May 11 - Methodius & Cyril, Equal-to-the Apostles Illuminators of the Slavs
Born in Thessalonica, Saint Methodius was a military man before becoming
a monk on Mount Olympus. His brother Constantine, known as the
Philosopher because of his erudition, was Librarian at the Church of the
Holy Wisdom in Constantinople; he later became a monk with the name of
Cyril. The Emperor Michael sent him with his brother Methodius to the
Khazars in response to their petition for teachers to expound to them the
Christian Faith. On their way, they stayed in Cherson, where they recovered
from the Black Sea the relics of Saint Clement of Rome. Later, they were
called by Prince Rostislav of Moravia to instruct his people in the Orthodox
Faith (Saint Rostislav died a martyr's death and is celebrated Oct. 15). The
Saints devised an alphabet for the Slavs, and used it to translate the Greek books into the
language of the people. In their apostolic labours throughout the Balkans, the holy brothers were
slandered by certain Germanic bishops who opposed the use of the vernacular in the church
services. Summoned to court at Rome in 867, they presented their Slavonic translations to Pope
Adrian II, who received them with love and full approval. Two years later, Saint Cyril reposed
in Rome on February 14 and was buried in the Church of Saint Clement. Saint Methodius was
made Bishop of Moravia, but at the intrigues of certain Latin clergy, was cast into prison by the
"Holy Roman Emperor" (the Germanic Emperor of the West), where he was cruelly tormented
for some three years. In 874, through the defence of Pope John VIII, he was freed and made
Archbishop of Moravia. Because he reproved the lax morals of the German priests in Moravia,
he was soon accused of heresy by them, and was forbidden to celebrate the Liturgy in Slavonic.
Summoned to Rome again in 879, he was completely exonerated and allowed once again to use
the Slavonic tongue for the divine services. He reposed on April 6, 885.

11 Μαϊου - Αγιος Μώκιος ο Ιερομάρτυρας
Φως, μέσα στο ειδωλολατρικό σκοτάδι της Ρώμης, ήταν ο Ευφράτιος και η
Ευσταθία (επί Διοκλητιανού 284 - 304 μ.Χ.). Οι ευσεβείς αυτοί γονείς
μεταλαμπάδευσαν το φως αυτό του Ευαγγελίου και στο γιο τους Μώκιο. Γι' αυτό
από μικρή ακόμα ηλικία, ο Μώκιος είχε μεγάλο πόθο να υπηρετήσει την Εκκλησία.
Και ο Θεός τον αξίωσε να εκπληρώσει τον Ιερό αυτό πόθο του. Αφού σπούδασε με
ιδιαίτερη επιμέλεια τα Ιερά γράμματα και καταρτίσθηκε όπως έπρεπε στη γνώση και
μετάδοση των θρησκευτικών αληθειών, σε κατάλληλη ηλικία έγινε κληρικός.
Αργότερα, οι άριστες υπηρεσίες του στην Εκκλησία τον ανέβασαν στο αξίωμα του
επισκόπου Αμφιπόλεως (Θράκης). Από τη θέση αυτή, ο Μώκιος εξαπέλυσε καυστικούς
ελέγχους ενάντια στο ψέμα της ειδωλολατρίας. Επίσης, αγωνίστηκε πυρετωδώς να ενισχύσει την
πίστη και την υπομονή των πιστών της επισκοπής του. Πάντα, βέβαια, με σκοπό «τον
καταρτισμόν των αγίων εις έργον διακονίας, εις οικοδομήν του σώματος του Χριστού » (Προς
Εφεσίους, δ' 12). Δηλαδή, με σκοπό να καταρτίζονται οι χριστιανοί και να επιτελείται το έργο
της διακονίας, με το οποίο οικοδομείται το σώμα του Χρίστου. Η έντονη, όμως, διακονική
δράση του Μωκίου, προκάλεσε την οργή του ειδωλολάτρη έπαρχου Λαοδικίου, που τον
βασάνισε με ποικίλους τρόπους. Αργότερα, άλλος έπαρχος, ο Μάξιμος, του έσχισε τις σάρκες
και τον έριξε τροφή στα θηρία. Έβλεπε, όμως, ότι πάντα ο Μώκιος έβγαινε ζωντανός. Τότε, το
έτος 288 μ.Χ. τον έστειλε δέσμιο στο Βυζάντιο, όπου τον αποκεφάλισαν, και έτσι πήρε το
στεφάνι του μαρτυρίου. Αργότερα ο Μέγας Κωνσταντίνος ανήγειρε προς τιμήν του Αγίου
Μωκίου μεγαλοπρεπή ναό, στον οποίο κατέθεσε και τα ιερά λείψανα αυτού. Στο ναό αυτόν
γινόταν αυτοκρατορική προσέλευση κατά την Μεσοπεντηκοστή. Στο ναό, επίσης, φυλασσόταν
το ιερό λείψανο του Αγίου Σαμψών του Ξενοδόχου.
11 Μαϊου - Ανάμνηση των εγκαινίων της Κωνσταντινούπολης
Όταν ο Μέγας Κωνσταντίνος κατέλαβε την πόλη του Βυζαντίου, την
έκτισε μεγαλύτερη και την ονόμασε Κωνσταντινούπολη. Το 330 μ.χ.
και αφού τελείωσε όλο το τειχόκαστρο, τα σπίτια και τις Ιερές
εκκλησίες, την αφιέρωσε στην Υπεραγία Θεοτόκο. Κατόπιν για να
ευχαριστήσει τον Θεό, για το μεγαλοπρεπές αυτό έργο, έκανε λιτανεία
με τον τότε Πατριάρχη, όλο τον κλήρο και τον λαό. Όταν ανέβηκαν στον Φόρο, έστησαν εκεί οι
πολίτες δικό του ανδριάντα, που μέσα στο κεφάλι του έβαλαν τα καρφιά με τα όποια κάρφωσαν
τον Χριστό. Στη βάση του ανδριάντα τοποθέτησαν τα δώδεκα καλάθια, που μέσα είχαν μαζέψει
τα περισσεύματα των πέντε άρτων, που ευλόγησε ο Χριστός και πολλαπλασιάστηκαν. Από τότε
λοιπόν η Εκκλησία, γιορτάζει κάθε χρόνο αυτή τη γιορτή για ανάμνηση. Η συγκεκριμένη ημέρα
της τελέσεως των εγκαινίων της Κωνσταντινουπόλεως επιλέχθηκε σκόπιμα, γιατί συνέπιπτε με
την ημέρα της μνήμης του μαρτυρίου του Αγίου Μωκίου, ο οποίος ήταν και ο πολιούχος του
Βυζαντίου.

Τῆς Θεοτόκου ἡ Πόλις, τῇ Θεοτόκῳ προσφόρως, τὴν ἑαυτῆς ἀνατίθεται σύστασιν, ἐν αὐτῇ γὰρ

Soon our Community will see the walls of our beautiful House of
Worship rising up and not very long after we will gather to celebrate
the opening of our new church.
On that glorious day, the choir undoubtedly will play a great role in
the celebration . We like to have a great choir consisting of many
members who can raise their voices in glorifying God for the blessings
bestowed upon our community.
Dr. Papaloizos is willing to devote individual time with each new
member to train him/her. You need nothing more than the desire to
sing the beautiful hymnology of our Orthodox faith.
It is an incredibly rewarding experience, so please, join us. Each Sunday, there will be a table in
the hall of St. Andrew’s where interested parishioners can provide their contact information.

ΈΝΑΣ ΚΑΚΟΔΟΞΟΣ ΤΡΟΠΟΣ ΠΡΟΣΕΥΧΗΣ

Είναι γνωστή η σπουδαιότητα, η αξία και η
δύναμη της προσευχής για κάθε χριστιανό. Τα
συγκεκριμένα όμως γνωρίσματα της προσευχής
ακυρώνονται, όταν ο τρόπος με τον οποίο
προσευχόμαστε είναι κακόδοξος.
Ένα τέτοιο κακόδοξο τρόπο προσευχής συναντάμε
στα έντυπα διαφόρων αιρετικών κινήσεων
(Πεντηκοστιανών, διαφόρων προτεσταντικών ομάδων), όπου προτρέπονται νεοπροσήλυτοι
να κλίνουν τα γόνατα και να προσευχηθούν ενθέρμως στον Χριστό ξεκινώντας την
προσευχή τους με το εξής: «Χριστέ μου ή Κύριε αν είσαι ζωντανός να μου αποκαλυφθείς».
Τι διαπιστώνει κάποιος με αυτού του είδους την εισαγωγή κατά την προσευχή; Ξεκινάει η
προσευχή με δυσπιστία, ακυρώνοντας ουσιαστικά την προτροπή του Θεανθρώπου στον
Απόστολο Θωμά: «μακάριοι οἱ μή ἰδόντες καί πιστεύσαντες» (Ιωάν. 20, 29).
Επιπλέον όμως ισχύει και κάτι πιο τραγικό. Προτρέπονται τα μέλη των αιρετικών κινήσεων,
να ξεκινήσουν την επικοινωνία τους με τον Χριστό υιοθετώντας τον ίδιο υποτιμητικό και
βλάσφημο τρόπο αναφοράς των αρχιερέων, των γραμματέων, των πρεσβυτέρων και των
φαρισαίων, οι οποίοι ξεκινούσαν με την ίδια δυσπιστία και μεταξύ των άλλων έλεγαν: «εἰ
βασιλεύς Ἰσραήλ ἐστι, καταβάτω νῦν ἀπό τοῦ σταυροῦ καί πιστεύσομεν ἐπ’ αὐτῷ» (Ματθ.
27, 42).
Αν είσαι βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ, έλεγαν τότε οι σταυρωτές του Χριστού, αν είσαι ζωντανός,
προτρέπονται να επαναλάβουν σήμερα, οι νεοπροσήλυτοι στην πλάνη.
Και όμως, επαναλαμβάνοντας λεκτικά σχήματα αμφισβήτησης εχθρών του Σταυρού του
Χριστού έχουν την ψευδαίσθηση ότι προσεύχονται και ότι επιτελούν έργο θεάρεστο.
Για μια ακόμα φορά επιβεβαιώνεται το πανθομολογούμενο μέσα στην εκκλησιαστική
ιστορία ότι η πλάνη περί το δόγμα εκφράζεται στην καθημερινότητα ως αρρωστημένο ήθος,
το οποίο δυστυχώς καταγράφεται και ως κακόδοξος τρόπος προσευχής.
Ως τελικό σχόλιο θέλουμε να επισημάνουμε ότι και στην περίπτωση αυτή επιβεβαιώνεται ο
λόγος του Χριστού: «εἰ οὖν τό φῶς τό ἐν σοί σκότος ἐστί, τό σκότος πόσον;» (Ματθ. 6, 23).

Did you know…
….that you can make your stewardship payment or fulfill your capital
campaign pledge via a stock transfer?
It may behoove you to look through your investment and stock portfolio before you write a check. If you will be
making a donation to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington, D.C. (which is a
qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization) and your donations can be deducted on your federal income tax
return as an itemized deduction, you should consider donating appreciated stock from your investment portfolio
instead of cash.
The tax benefits -- which include deducting the amount of the charitable donation AND escaping the unrealized
gains on the donated stock - come from the fact that the deduction one can take for a donation of property to
charity is equal to the property's current fair market value. And when the donated property is an investment, the
donor does not have to recognize the capital gain. These rules create a "double play" of tax benefits: a charitable
deduction AND avoiding tax on the unrealized capital gains of the donated property. This works best for folks
whose marginal tax bracket is 15 percent or higher and who claim itemized deductions.
For example, let's say you bought stock for $10,000 last year and today it is worth $20,000. You should consider
donating the entire toward your capital campaign pledge (assuming you had pledged that much). If you sold the
$20,000 stock instead of donating it, you would pay capital gains tax on the $10,000 gain in value. The tax rate
for long-term capital gains is 15 percent. Therefore, the tax savings for donating rather than selling the stock
would be $1,500 (10,000 x 15%). In addition, you can claim a charitable deduction of the market value of the
donated shares -- the full $20,000 -- as a charitable donation deduction. If you are in the 25 percent federal tax
bracket, this could generate another $5,000 (20,000 x 25%) in tax savings. This brings your total tax savings to
$6,500. If you are in a higher tax bracket, your donation deduction will be even more. Also consider this: you are
giving a gift of $20,000 which is two times what it originally cost you. So as you can see your tax benefits from
making a donation of appreciated stock versus cutting a check can be substantial. But be careful here: this will
not work if the stock has NOT been held for more than a year. So, if you are considering the donation of
appreciated stock, you need to make sure that the shares have been held for more than one year.

Definition of PARISHIONER IN GOOD STANDING

PARISHIONERS
Section 1: Every person who is baptized and chrismated according to the rites of the Orthodox
Church is a parishioner. The religious, moral and social duties of a parishioner are to apply the
tenets of the Orthodox Faith to his/her life and to: adhere to and live according to the tenets of
the Orthodox faith; faithfully attend the Divine Liturgy and other worship services; participate
regularly in the holy sacraments; respect all ecclesiastical authority and all governing bodies of
the Church; be obedient in matters of the Faith, practice and ecclesiastical order; contribute
towards the progress of the Church's sacred mission; and be an effective witness and example
of the Orthodox Faith and Traditions to all people.
A parishioner in good standing practices all the religious and moral duties as described in
this Section 1. At a minimum, a parishioner in good standing must: be eighteen years of age or
over; be current in his or her stewardship and other financial obligations to the Parish, abide by
all the regulations herein stated and the Parish Bylaws; and cooperate in every way towards the
welfare and well being of the Parish. (Stewardship is recommended to be ten percent (10%) of
one’s annual income as stated in Holy Scripture to help meet the financial obligations of the
Parish, the Metropolis and the Archdiocese.)
Section 2: Any person wishing to be a parishioner in good standing in more than one Parish
must remit his or her Stewardship financial obligation to each Parish as stated in Section 1 of
this Article. A parishioner wishing to move from one Parish to another must present a letter of
transfer from the Priest of the Parish from which he or she is moving stating that he or she is in
good standing.
Section 3: No person shall be deemed a parishioner in good standing while: not adhering to the
standards outlined in Sections 1 and 2 of this Article; retaining affiliation in an Orthodox

Parish which defies the jurisdiction or the ecclesiastical authority of the Archdiocese; being a
member of or practicing a non-Orthodox faith or other religion; and deliberately disregarding
and transgressing the moral law of the Church.
Section 4: The Priest shall judge any cases of special circumstances justifying the waiver of a
parishioner's stewardship financial obligations.
Section 5: A parishioner in good standing has the right to attend, participate and vote at
Parish Assemblies, as well as to vote in Parish Council elections. Each such parishioner may
also be nominated for election to the Parish Council or to represent the Parish at a Local
Assembly or the Congress.
Section 6: An Orthodox Christian parishioner in good standing at his or her canonical
Orthodox Parish may serve as a sponsor in another Parish without being obliged to become a
member in good standing at the Parish where the sacrament will take place. A parishioner
may serve as a sponsor in another Parish by presenting a letter of good standing from his or
her home Parish Priest.
Section 7: Each Parish shall maintain a Parish Record which shall include, at a minimum, the
following information concerning each parishioner: baptismal and family name, occupation
(optional), dates of baptism and/or chrismation and marriage, complete family record of
spouse and children, date of entry into the Parish indicating if transferred from another Parish,
date of death, and such other information that shall be deemed appropriate.

SENIOR SUNDAY
Haroula Tzamaras is graduating from Sherwood High School. Haroula
was an Honor Roll student for all four years and was admitted into the
National, Math, Science, English, Music and History Honor Societies
as well as the National Society of High School Scholars. She
successfully completed 10 AP courses and won an AP Scholar with
Distinction Award. In 2012 Haroula was recognized as the 10th Grade
Female Outstanding Student of the Year. Her submission in the 2013
Montgomery Science Fair was awarded 1st Place in the Biology
Division. Haroula earned varsity letters for her participation on the
Winter and Spring Track & Field Teams and the Field Hockey Team,
as well as earning Scholar Athlete, Sportsmanship, and Minds in
Motion awards in all four years. In 2012 she made the All-County Field Hockey Honorable
Mention Team, a distinction that is determined entirely by the Montgomery County high
school coaches. Haroula was a member of the Orchestra and participated in the Pep Band and
Drum Line. During her junior and senior years she was an assistant stage manager for
Sherwood's renowned Rock and Roll Revival productions. Haroula also enjoyed a significant
life experience in an international exchange with La Ginesta school in Castelldefels in
Barcelona, Spain, whereby the students from Barcelona were hosted in the U.S. by Sherwood
students in September 2012 and the Sherwood students were in turn hosted in Spain in March
2013. Haroula will be graduating with total community service hours in excess of 400 (the
County requires 75 minimum) stemming from activities as a Girl Scout and participation in
Olney's Relay for Life amongst numerous other ventures. Haroula will attend the University of
Maryland in College Park, having been admitted into the Honors program as well as the
College of Engineering. She will be pursuing a degree in Bio-Engineering with a minor in
Neuroscience.
Theoni will be graduating from Middletown High school with Honors.
She was a member of the indoor and outdoor track and Cross country
team for the past four years. She was a member of the SGA, The
national honor society, and the History honor society. She volunteered
with special olympics and at the ARC of Frederick County to assist the
special needs community. As a result of her senior years dual
enrollment in Hood College, and Middletown High school, Theoni will
be entering The American College of Greece, Deree, in Athens GReece,
with 21 credits. She will be studying International Business and
Marketing as a double major and have a minor in Finance. Theoni's
hobbys include horse back riding, swimming, dancing and traveling.

I will be graduating St. John’s College High School in June and I
will be attending University of Maryland, College Park in the fall. I
am a College Park Scholar, in the program Global Public Health. I
was on the crew team and plan to continue in college. I was a part of
the Art Club and Spanish Club, along with the Debate team. I am a
member of the National Honors Society and the National Spanish
Honors Society.
Cassiane Mavromatis is graduating from Damascus High
School. She will be continuing on to Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and State University to earn a Bachelors of Science in Business
Information Technology while on a Pre-Law track. After Tech, she
hopes to continue on to law school to become a cyber-security
lawyer. During her high school years, Cassiane was captain of the
varsity Lacrosse team, vice president of Goya, vice president of the
Drama club, president of the Forensics club, and was a member of
Marching Band, National Honor Society, Maryland Lions Band and
Academy of Information Technology. She has received honors and
AP scholar awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.5-3.75 throughout
high school and placed first place in the county wide forensics
competition in 2012 for the category of children's literature and placed fourth place in the same
tournament this past year for the category of humorous interpretation. She has been playing
piano since kindergarten and played for the National Guild where she received high district
markings. She will be ending her senior year as a class speaker at her 2014 graduation
ceremony.
Hi my name is AnnaMaria Psallidas and I attended Quince Orchard
high school. While attending Quince Orchard I played on the girls
junior varsity and varsity basketball teams. During my freshmen
year of high school I was a teachers assistant at Sts. Constantine &
Helen after school Greek School. I have been an active member of
of Sts. Constantine & Helen Goya and have participated in many
fundraisers and activities through it. I have also held multiple
leadership positions as well; I've held the positions of Historian and
Recording Secretary. This year I held the position of Goya
President. In the fall I plan on attending Montgomery College, to
major within Radiology.

Hi my name is Zoe Nasios and I am graduating from Sherwood high
school. I have been part of Sts. Constantine and Helen GOYA for six
years. I have served as the historian for the past two years of Goya. I
also participated in Goya basketball for the past 5 years. I've been a
student ambassador for my high school for the past 3 years and I have
worked as a student aid for a special needs class. During my junior
year I went on an art school trip to Spain. Since I was 6 years old I've
been a part of a professional Greek Dance troupe. I also was president
of the Kefalonian and Ithakian Student association. I plan on
attempting Towson university in the fall to major in Physical
Therapy!

All Orthodox Christians planning to become
A God Parent must be able to recite the Creed
by memory.
You may recite our Symbol of Faith in either English or Greek.
40-DAYS BABY BLESSING
For your convenience we are letting you know that you can
make an appointment to church your baby on the 40th day after
its birth, no matter what day that might be. There is no reason
that you have to inconvenience the mom and the baby, waiting
in the back of the Narthex until the priest is available on a
Sunday ONLY. Make an appointment to come to church when it
is convenient for you at a time that will not disrupt the baby's
routine. ANY day you would like. 9am through 6pm by appointment. Bring the entire family
or come just with your husband and the baby. Whatever you want. No waiting no
inconvenience. More private time with the priest to talk about the future baptism if you wish.
