COMPANY PROFILE
Architects Marinella Patetta and Claudio Valént, after a Master in Lighting Design and several years of
experience, founded Metis Lighting company in 1989.
Metis deals exclusively with lighting design and industrial design of lighting equipment. The combination of these
activities gives the company its special character.
Facing different lighting issues and items gives the possibility to build a deeper and specific knowledge on
lighting and on customized lighting fixtures.
Metis develops different projects, for private and public spaces, outdoor and indoor. The goal is every time to
achieve environments where light is totally integrated and part of the building itself.
Lighting design for different areas, each with visual needs, standards and characteristics, requires careful choice
of the best devices and consequently produces a constant growth in knowhow which is used for the design of
new devices.
Industrial design, therefore represents a natural outcome. Lighting equipment design represents the
combination of both technical and aesthetic experiences. In the last few years teaching and research activity, at
the Faculty of Industrial Design, Polytechnic of Milan is part of the professional activity.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
Design of new lighting fixtures usually starts from lighting projects. After the concept, the following step of the project is
the choice of the most suitable fittings.
When this fixture, for technical or aesthetic reasons, does not exist on the market, needs to be developed according to the
desired shape and the required use.
Later, the fixture is going to be further analysed. Executive design is developed, through the use of prototypes and in
collaboration with the manufacturer. Materials, shape, functions, technical requirements are all ingredients to achieve an
innovative and unique product. The acquired experience, as well, helps designing and achieving accurate custom-made
products in a short time.
