There may be various reasons for this, but it is believed this trend will continue from now on. If you were having guests from overseas, what kind of plan would you suggest to them? Old temples in Kyoto and Himeji castle are very popular but it is little bit boring for young people. I would suggest places everyone can enjoy. First, I would take my guests to a game center to experience Purikura. Purikura is a kind of like a photo booth but it makes our eyes look bigger, our skin lighter and it also makes us skinnier. I know that there are not anything like this in America or Canada. When I showed a picture I took in Purikura to my American friend, she was very surprised. She said that she has never seen anything like it before and that she was interested. Recently, taking Purikura with food or drink has been popular. We do that to show what we ate on that day. Foreign people might think that it is weird but I think it will be good to take one with Takoyaki. I recommend Takoyaki because it is so famous in the Kansai region and there are not many places that sell Takoyaki abroad. It will be a great chance. After taking Purikura, I would suggest my guests to go to Osaka by train. I want them to go there by train so that they can learn about Japanese culture and manners. When Japanese people wait for trains, we stand in a straight line and we move aside close to the automatic door when people get off the train. We let people get off the train first then the people who had been waiting go on. I do not think many countries do this so it will be a great opportunity for them to know about. Visiting Osaka is exciting for me. I am sure foreign tourists will feel the same way. There are many activities we can do there. For example, eat delicious food or go shopping. If the guests can understand Japanese very well, I would take them to Yoshimoto shinkigeki. Not only that is funny, but it can also teach them what comedy is like in Japan. It is probably so different from their country. I would like them to tell me how comedy is like in their country. After watching it, I would take them to the big sign of Guriko. It is very big, I am positive that it will surprise the guests. They might ask why the man is running. I can explain a little history about it and suggest them to buy Guriko biscuits. They can bring back the biscuits as souvenirs for their family and friends. These are the places and activities I picked out of many options. My advice is to go and do things you can only experience in Japan. (459 words) 第１５回兵庫県高校生英文エッセーコンテスト２、３、４年の部最優秀作品 Just be positive 県立芦屋国際中等教育学校５年次松村佳奈 When things go wrong, people lose hope. Many stop moving forward and some leave the problem unresolved; but is that really what we should be doing? I have a rule to always be positive so I can keep moving forward, use failure as a step to success, and encourage the people around me. One of the reasons why I obey the rule to be positive is because it enables me to keep moving on. When I was in elementary school, I moved back to Japan from America. I was so depressed in leaving my friends and teachers. I kept crying and hated my new school. However that started to change when I begin to see the good side of the things around me. Gradually I became positive about making new friends, and going to the new school. I had found the way to move on by being positive and seeing the good side of things, rather than staying gloomy. Another reason I obey my rule to always be positive is because it lets me use failure as a step to success. “Failure is a stepping stone to success.” This is a phrase my club activity teacher always tells us. I’ve kept thinking about the phrase ever since he first told us. At first I couldn’t understand how to use failure for success and got tired of my failures, but one day it changed. We were practicing catching grounders and I realized I had gotten better. Thinking of my failure had made me realize my mistakes. Now I am able to correct my mistakes by positively accepting my failure. Lastly, I obey my rule to stay positive to encourage the people around me. There are many times when the feelings of people are influenced by other people. For example, if your friend is depressed often you will feel the same too. However, it could be better if you are able to help that friend and encourage them. To do that I find that being positive instead of just being sad is the key to cheer the friend up. Positive feelings can not only give spirit to you, but to other people too. I have a rule to always be positive to keep moving forward, use failure as a stepping stone to success, and give spirit to the people around.
