TYPES OF TILE
We travel the world to bring you the best ranges of quality tiles to suit any room.
Most tiles are ceramic, porcelain or natural stone in composition, but we also offer
a wide range of glass mosaics and agglomerate quartz tiles.

Ceramic
Natural stone
With a glazed finish on the front and a clay “biscuit” backing, ceramic
tiles are available in many colours and sizes, in gloss and matt finishes.
The high porosity biscuit allows the use of ready-mixed adhesives.
Being easier to cut and install than porcelain or natural stone often
makes ceramics a more cost-effective option. The use of inkjet printing
technology in some ranges adds a natural appearance. Some ceramic
tiles can be used on the floor. Due to the manufacturing and firing
process, ceramic tiles may vary in tone or size between batches and
therefore it is important to ensure that all boxes are marked with the
same batch number and tiles from a number of boxes are mixed during
fixing. Please ask in branch for details.
Our travertine, marble, slate and limestone ranges are natural products
quarried from around the world. These tiles are produced from naturally
occuring stone and therefore the colour and patterning may vary quite
considerably between tiles – this is a feature of this kind of product.
Porcelain
Mosaics
The higher firing temperature of porcelain tiles ensures that they are
fully vitrified, producing tiles with enhanced properties which are harder
wearing, with increased load ratings and the manufacturing process of
unglazed or through body porcelain means that if the tile suffers an
impact chip, the original colour remains. Unglazed porcelain tiles require
sealing with an impregnator before grouting. As with ceramic tiles, the
manufacturing and firing process may produce a variance in tone or size
between batches and therefore it is important to ensure that all boxes
are marked with the same batch number and tiles from a number of
boxes are mixed during fixing. Please ask in branch for details.
The majority of our mosaic tiles are attached to a mesh backing in a
30x30cm size. The mesh can be cut to size with scissors to provide a
cost-effective border or dГ©cor strip with any main tile. We recommend
using a fine white powder adhesive with mosaic tiles.
All natural stones require specific treatment while fixing, including initial
cleaning, impregnator sealing and on-going maintenance. It is important
all relevant instructions are followed – printed guides are available so
please ask in branch for advice. With the exception of slate, a white
powder adhesive should be used for all natural stones as a grey
adhesive may show through and darken the tiles after being fixed.
Agglomerate Quartz
In a typical manufacturing process, graded marble or quartz is
compressed and blended together with a resin producing an amazing
finish. Large blocks are produced which are cut to size and given the
required surface finish. Specific fixing instructions must be followed so
please ask in branch for advice.

SAMARA MARBLE
General Information
for Natural Stone Products
Stone tiles and mosaics are natural products and will inherently contain
some variations in colour, shading and surface textures. You should not
assume that a single sample will give an accurate indication of the
finished surface. It is recommended that tiles are loose laid prior to
fitting to ensure that an acceptable blend is achieved.
Due to the rustic nature of these products, some of our tiles may have
small chips or blemishes. Such minor imperfections are considered
normal features and not defects. Slight chipping may be caused
during packing and chipping. Tiles considered to exhibit excessive
cracks, chips or face markings should be used for cuts during the
installation process.
The cutting process at the quarry uses water and some tiles may be
damp and slightly darker than their original colour when received, all
tiles should be allowed to dry out before dry laying and fixing, to ensure
an even spread of shades and tones.
Stone products must be sealed with a quality impregnator before
grouting as part of the fixing process. Please ask in branch for advice.

TYPES OF
ADHESIVE
GROUT
& SEALANT
Pro Grip
Ultracolour Plus grout
A 15kg tub of waterproof, flexible, ready mixed paste adhesive suitable
for bathrooms. It is to be used on plaster, plasterboard, tile backer
board or concrete walls with ceramic tiles no larger than 25x33cm. It is
not suitable for fixing porcelain or natural stone. Tiles may be grouted
after 24 hours.
A waterproof, flexible, mould resistant grout available in 27 different
colours. Suitable for most tiles – ceramic, porcelain, natural stone,
mosaics, glass and quartz – and all uses including bathrooms and
outdoors. Available in 5kg bags. Some colours are also available in
2kg and 23kg bags.
Pro Quick
We recommend Keracolour FF grout for high gloss dark glazes and
mosaics with metal finishes that are subject to scratching.
A 20kg bagged grey, cement-based powder adhesive for any size of
ceramic tile on the wall and floor. If used on the floor, the substrate
must be solid, ie not deformable such as timber or tile backer boards.
It is not suitable for fixing porcelain or natural stone and not for use
with underfloor heating. Porous substrates such as plaster walls will
need priming with Mapei Primer G (normal primer is not suitable due to
the moisture in the adhesive). Tiles may be grouted after 3 hours.

Mapesil sealant
A 99% silicone sealant available in 27 colours to match Mapei
Ultracolour Plus grouts, plus transparent. Suitable for all tiles –
ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaics, glass and quartz – and all
uses including bathrooms and outdoors. Available in 310ml tubes.
Pro Flexible grey & white
Clean, Seal, Maintain
A 20kg bagged grey or white, cement-based powder adhesive for the
fixing of all sizes of ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tile on to walls
and floors. Can be used with electric under tile heating but not piped
water underfloor systems. The white adhesive should be used for when
fixing light coloured natural stone tiles and mosaics. Wooden floors
should be overboarded with a minimum of 15mm WBP grade plywood,
screwed at a minimum of 300mm centres in all directions, with the
boards staggered. Plaster walls will need priming with Mapei Primer G
(normal primer is not suitable due to the moisture in the adhesive).
Tiles may be grouted after 3 hours.
Clean your tiles before and after fixing with LTP Grimex. Some tiles
need a quality impregnating sealer, please see the individual tile
descriptions for our advice on whether to use LTP MPG, Mattstone,
Colour Intensifier or Crackle Glaze Protector. For maintenance of your
tiles and to ensure they retain their finish we recommend LTP Waxwash
or Floorshine. Please ask for further information.

Bathroom tiles
Large format tiles are perfect for contemporary wet rooms and
make smaller rooms look much larger and more spacious. Mosaics are
also great for wet rooms as they mould themselves to the shape of
walls and floors, creating an illusion of space with a designer touch.

All products in this brochure are held in stock, but
occasionally, due to high demand a product may become
temporarily unavailable. Please check stock levels and

working days from date of order for the delivery of goods.

the risk of running short during installation, as further
