Tile designs can contain as much or as little colour, texture, light and shape as your planned scheme will allow. You can literally paint pictures with tiles and mosaics. Use floor tile mosaics on a wetroom floor. They possess anti-slip features due to the number of grout lines, they are hard wearing and durable, plus easily laid on a sloping floor towards the drainage system. Introduce a mosaic vertical or horizontal strip to your walls to add visual interest. Why not add a vertical strip in the bathroom near the shower or sink? Some wall tile glazes, particularly the more specialised effects used to create surface features and strong colours, are subject to crazing. This is an inherent characteristic of the glazes and may occur after fixing but will not affect the performance of the tiles. Tiles should be spaced using readily available spacer pegs. It is recommended that tile edging trims are used for all external corners and exposed tiling edges. Fl r s Slight variation in overall size and shade of floor tiles occurs during the manufacturing process. Sufficient tiles for the area to be covered should be obtained in one consignment to ensure that a supply of compatible sizes and shades is achieved. Only porcelain floor tiles may be suitable for external applications. Please check the suitability before installing any floor tiles in areas subject to frost. rcela s Use an adhesive that is suitable for porcelain such as BALRapidset, Single Part Flexible or BAL Rapidset Flexible. If large format tiles (400 x 400 mm or larger) are being fixed then use BAL PTB Tile & Stone. Grout with highly polymer modified grouts such as, BAL Superflex Wide Joint Grout if the tiles are fully vitrified. Check your purchase within 48 hours to ensure you are completely satisfied. Before fixing wall or floor tiles several boxes should be opened and their contents mixed to provide an attractive natural finish, acceptable colour blend and to observe the direction of patterning. We must stress that, before fixing ceramic wall or floor tiles, you must take the advice given by your architect, tiler or builder before going ahead on a “do it yourself” basis. Tiles are expensive and mistakes can be very costly! When choosing your room scheme, the colour wheel will help you out. Use these tile colour tips or contact us. Primary colours cannot be made from any other colour, but secondary and tertiary colours are a mixture of primary colours. Tonal scheme: Choose one colour and use different shades or tints of this colour. Harmonious scheme: Colours next to each other are harmonious. Contrast scheme: Colours opposite each other will add a contrast, good for making a statement. U ng l r y r r m: Consider all the furniture, work surfaces, walls, floor and main contents and then choose a scheme from above. Bring in a sample of your work top to see which tiles match. Think about which colour scheme will look best in the room you are tiling and follow the rules of the colour wheel so that your colours match. Would you prefer your tiles to be warm colours (reds, beiges), cool colours (blues) or neutral colours (whites, greys)? k a ut... A smaller room may appear cramped if you paint or tile with dark colours, whereas a large room may benefit from multiple, rich shades. Likewise, a dimly lit room requires a lighter colour scheme, whereas a space with ample natural lighting may seem too spacious if it is painted or tiled in light colours. i C r T e?
