Alfredo Ramos Martinez(1871－1946 年) アルフレド・ラモス・マルティネス
1871 年、ヌ
エボ・レオン州モンテレイ生まれ。1890 年、国立美術学校入学。1899 年頃、ホエベ・ヘルストに
才能を認められ、支援を受けて 3 年間パリに滞在する。1905 年と 1907 年にサロン・ドドンヌに
出展。1909 年メキシコに帰国。1910 年、ヨーロッパで描いた作品の展覧会を国立美術学校で開催
する。国立美術学校で学生ストライクが勃発したとき、文部次官から同校の副校長に任命された。

1913 年に同校の校長に就任。同年サンタ・アニタ・イスタパラパに野外美術学校を創設する。そ
の後、米国に移住し、壁画の制作、展覧会を開催した。1992 年国立美術館で回顧展が開催された。

Diego Rivera: Murals for The Museum of Modern Art

In 1931, Diego Rivera was the subject of The Museum of
Modern Art's second monographic exhibition, which set new
attendance records in its five-week run. The Museum brought
Rivera to New York six weeks before the show's opening and
gave him on-site studio space. There he produced five
"portable murals" --large blocks of frescoed plaster, slaked
lime and wood that feature bold images drawn from Mexican
subject matter and address themes of revolution and class inequity. After the opening,
to great publicity, Rivera added three more murals, now taking on New York subjects
through monumental images of the urban working class and the city during the Great
Depression. Published in conjunction with an exhibition that brings together key works
made for Rivera's 1931 show, this catalogue casts the artist as a highly cosmopolitan
figure who traveled between Russia, Mexico and the United States and examines the
intersection of artmaking and radical politics in the 1930s. Illustrated with
reproductions of each panel as well as related paintings, drawings, prints and
documentary photographs, the book's essays investigate the international politics of
muralism, Rivera's history with MoMA, the iconography of the portable murals and
technical aspects of the artist's working process.

Diego Rivera (1886-1957 年) ディエゴ・リベラ
グアナフアト生まれ。3 歳から絵を描き始め
る。1896 年から 1905 年まで、国立美術学校で学ぶ。後援者で画家のヘラルド・ムリージョ（ド
クトル・アトゥル）の力添えで、1907 年個展を開く。ポリフィリオ・ディアス大統領からの奨学
金で、スペインに渡る。ヨーロッパで、ルネサンス、キュビスム、前衛主義の作品に接する。作
品には、新印象派、セザンヌの作品、フォーヴィズム、キュビスムの研究と分析の成果が表れて
いる。1922 年最初の壁画作品である《創造》が、国立予科高等学校ボリバル円形講堂のために描
かれた。同年、革命的技能労働者・画家・版画家・彫刻家組合の一員となる。1930 年に渡米し、
サンフランシスコやデトロイト、そしてニューヨークのロックフェラーセンターの壁画を制作し
たが、この作品は塗り潰された。1938 年、リベラとアンドレ・ブルトンは、
「独立革命芸術宣言」
に署名。1957 年に亡くなるまで、壁画家、イーゼル画家として、リベラは生涯を通じて政治的な

パリ生まれだが、メキシコ人であることを
自認していた。パリノエコール・デ・ボザール（国立美術学校）で学ぶ。サロン・ド・ドトンヌ
に出品。第一次世界大戦後、母親とともにメキシコに移住する。画家のフェルナンド・レアルと
工房を共有し、木版画とリトグラフ技法を推し進めて、急速に発展する当時の美術界に加わる。
1922 年ディエゴ・リベラを助けて、壁画《創造》を制作した。その後、シャルロー自身の構図に
よる《マヨール寺院の大虐殺》を制作する。雑誌「メキシカン・フォークウェイズ」の編集人と
なり、米国でメキシコ美術に関する著書を出版し、その振興に努める。1930 年ニューヨークに移
住。1979 年ハワイで没。

メキシコ北部ドゥランゴ州生
まれ。米国テキサス州のサン・アントニオ・ジェズイット・カレッジで学ぶ。シカゴの労働闘争
と組合要求に関わったことが、後の美術家としての考え方に大きな影響を与える。メキシコに戻
ると、野外美術学校の教育革命に加わり、メキシコシティのビラ・デ・グアダルーペのホセ・マ
リア・ベラスコ美術学校の校長に就任する。革命的技能労働者・画家・版画家・彫刻家組合で積
極的に活動、過激派文学運動の芸術的主張を取り入れた。1923 年壁画運動に参加、当時の国立予
科高等学校のために蝋画法による宗教的寓意画を描く。1928 年メキシコ共産党に入党、声明文、
ポスター、作品展を通して¡30-30!グループによる教育全面改革要求を支持した。ロシア構成主義
やマリネッティの未来派を思わせる前衛主義的形式を用いて『クリソール』誌の表紙を描いた。

Tamayo" by Howard Parker, and the picture lotteries by Jose
Nunez y Dominguez.

Tamayo, Rufino
EARLY SPRING
Etching and intaglio, 1941. 13 7/8 x 10 5/8 inches; 354 x 270 mm. Edition of 4. Signed,
titled and numbered in pencil. In excellent condition with a small repaired area in the
extreme left margin, away from the image. It is likely that Tamayo did this atypical
experimental print while working with S. W. Hayter in New York in 1941. Tamayo moved
to New York In 1936 and in the late thirties and early forties he exhibited at the
Valentine Gallery. He taught at the Dalton School in New York from 1938, and went back
to Mexico in 1956. Tamayo developed a printmaking technique called "mixografia"
through which he created images with dimension and texture; the intaglio work on this
print, is likely an early example of his efforts toward this objective.

メキシコ・ルネッサンス運動に積極的に参加、同時代の美術的主義、特に恋人で仕事仲間でもあ
ったマリア・イスキエルドと歩みをともにした。壁画制作をした後、ニューヨークに住む。自己
の民族的出自とメキシコ絵画の近代性を忘れることなく、国際的な前衛主義運動に加わり、ピカ
ソやマティスの作品を研究する。第二次世界大戦後、広島の原爆投下、戦後の冷戦に心乱された
彼の作品には、人間の残虐きわまる暴力や新たな宇宙の力の解放があらわされている。

Abraham Angel (1905-1924 年)
アブラハム・アンヘルスコットランド人の血を引く公布の
子としてメキシコ州ミネラル・デル・オロで生まれる。幼くしてメキシコ近代絵画の舞台に登場
し、幼少の頃より美術界の主要な画家たちと交流があった。アドルフォ・ベスト・マウガルドの
アトリエで素描法を学び、自由な表現と、特に色調表現の美に傾倒する。アルゼンチン人のマヌ
エル・ロドリゲス・ロサーノの影響でエキゾチズムを取り入れる。
「少年画家」の神話が生まれる。
彼の作品で目立つのは、野外美術学校の少年画家たちによく見られるのその観察力、純真さの発
露であり、民俗的なインスピレーションの濃いメキシコの雰囲気を具象化する感受性である。コ
カインの過剰摂取のため、メキシコシティで死去、享年 19 歳であった。

Signed document by Kahlo, who sells a painting to Paulette Goddard
A twice-signed document by Frida Kahlo, being a receipt for a painting sold to the
actress Paulette Goddard. Dated Mexico, December 19th 1941, the form has been filled
out in Kahlo's hand, including a description of the painting, "one oil painting 'still life'
size 65 ctmts diameter", the price of $300, and the comment, "Carried by Miss Paulette
Goddard by plane". Two punch-holes to the top and a light fold towards the top-left
corner, otherwise in fine condition. Kahlo's autograph is extremely rare in any format.
Kahlo and Goddard are rumoured to have had an affair together.

handwritten by Kahlo. Curated by Lola Alvarez Bravo and held at Mexico City's Galería
de Arte Contemporáneo, this exhibit took place the year before she died and just a few
months before she had to have her right leg amputated due to gangrene. Advised by
doctors that she was too ill to attend the opening, Kahlo notoriously insisted on being
carried to the event on her four-poster bed. Laboriously printed in Kahlo's elegant black
calligraphy and adorned with drawings of a swan, dove and communist sickle and
hammer. The invitation reads as a poem: Con amistad y cariño nacido del corazón
tengo el gusto de invitarte a mi humilde exposición. A las ocho de la noche ~pues relox
tienes al cabo~ te espero en la Galería d’esta Lola Alvarez Bravo. Se encuentra en
Amberes 12 y con puertas a la calle, de suerte que no te pierdas porque se acaba el
detalle. Sólo quiero que me digas tu opinión buena y sincera eres leida y escribida; tu
saber es de primera. Estos cuadros de pinta va pinté con mis propias manos y esperen
en las paredes que gusten a mis hermanos. Bueno, my Cuate querido: con amistad
verdadera te lo agradece en el alma Frida Kahlo de Rivera Coyoacán, 1953. (12mo, 42
x 65 cm., three individual leaves of handmade pink paper tied together at the upper
corner with mauve yarn.) Item Two: Illustration on heavy coated stock by Rivera of
Kahlo, in memory of the first anniversary of her death. Inscription to Kahlo from Rivera:

FRIDA KAHLO (1907-1954 年)
フリーダ・カーロ
コヨアカン生まれ。子どもの頃に小児麻
痺を患った上に 1925 年生命が危ぶまれる自動車事故にあい、それは画家としての彼女の人生と仕
事に決定的な影響を及ぼした。医師を目指して国立予科高等学校で学んでいたが、美術に関して
正規に学んだことはなく、独学によってさまざまスタイルや 20 年代の動向を取り入れていた。
1929 年壁画家のディエゴ・リベラと結婚したが、それ以前に美術家としてすでに一歩を踏み出し
ていた。ディエゴを通してメキシコ美術のもつコスモポリタン的雰囲気に深く魅せられていった。
パリで、デュシャン、カンディスキー、ピカソをはじめとして、ブルトンの紹介によりシュルレ
アリストたちに出会う。リベラとの離婚後、1941 年メキシコシティで開催されたシュルレアリス
ム国際美術展に《二人のフリーダ》と《傷ついたテーブル》を出展する。その後、リベラと再婚。
絵画教室を主宰、
「フリドス」として知られるグループを育て上げる。1953 年片足を切断したが、
メキシコシティで、最初で最後の個展を開き、その一年後亡くなる。

little nicked, slight waterstaining to some pages, colours bright. Illustrated by Gabriel

The book is interesting in how it is printed, in the French leaf fashion, i.e. where each
page is a double page joined at the foredge, and in this case clearly from recycled paper
since one can see colour images and text not belinging to this book on the inside. Most
likely due to the war and shortages of paper. The book has large colour plates of the

animals, and at the end a zoological tree of animals, vertebrates and mammals.

GABRIEL FERNANDEZ LEDESMA (1900-1983 年)
ガブリエル・フェルナンデス・レデスマ
アグアカリエンテス州生まれ。州政府から奨学金を得て、メキシコシティの国立美術学校に入学。
1925 年文部省でデッサンを教え、早くから文化振興に尽力する。造形美術雑誌『フォルマ』を主
導し、1920 年代後期の豊かで複雑は美術界を記事とイラストで簡略に説明した。1926 年サン・パ
ブ路地区に創設した民衆絵画センターで、多くの子供たちの画才を引き出すように指導し、1929
年子供たちの描いた作品をセビリアの国際博覧会に出品した。フェルナンド・レアル、ラモン・
アルバ・デ・ラ・カナルらととも¡30－30！運動を提唱、要求書と声明文を作成して美術教育の全
面政策を訴えた。革命的作家・美術家同盟の設立メンバーであり、1938 年文部省の援助を得て、
「メキシコの政治活動における美術」と題して、パリの美術展に精選した仲間の作品を出展した。
1944 年グッゲンハイム財団の公演を得て、メキシコの大衆芸術に関する膨大な数の本を編集、出
版する。

を得て、渡欧。マドリードでの第 2 回秋期美術展に出展する。1928 年文部省教育局の美術教師。
1930 年ニューヨークのアートセンターで作品展を開催、続いてメキシコシティのガレリア・デ・
アルテ・モデルノで個展。エミリオ・アメロの工房で学んだ木版画とリトグラフの技法を奨励す
る活動にも取り組んだり、メキシコ国立芸術院のダンススクールを作ったりした。国立絵画彫刻
学校の創設メンバーの一人。1959 年国立芸術宮殿で回顧展。第 29 回ヴェネチアビエンナーレ参
加。メキシコシティ近代美術館館長に就任。メキシコシティで没。

Diego Rivera, her works are unique and powerful works of art . The book contains 64
color illustrations. Very little monographic material is available; this is a good

ロス・ラゴス生まれ。若くして結婚、2 児の母親となるが、離婚。メキシコシティの国立美術学
校に入学すること決心する。同校でゲルマン。ゲドビウスに師事。1929 年メキシコシティで初の
個展。ほどなくニューヨークのアートセンターに作品が展示される。メキシコを訪れていた詩人
アントナン・アルトーの友人としてシュルレアリスムの考え方を受け入れる。アヴァンギャルド
思想とメキシコ近代美術の主流派傾向の影響を受けて、独自の道を見出す。祭壇の装飾や奉納物、
19 世紀の静物画ジャンルなどの多くの人に親しまれている美術を研究、再評価し、絵画に反映さ
せる。壁画制作に取り組んだが、障害があって完成させることはできなかった。メキシコシティ
はリベラ、シケイロスなどの大物男性壁画家の独断場たったために、女流画家の出る幕はなく努
力は報われなかった。この時の挫折感は彼女の半生に深く影響を与えた。

独学の美術
家で、8 年間ヨーロッパに対座し、アヴァンギャルド運動と密接に関わる。1921 年壁画運動が指
導し、メキシコルネッサンスの気運が高まっていた時期に帰国。文部省の美術教師として、アブ
ラハム・アンヘル、フリオ・カステジャノスらの若い美術家たちの才能を引き出した。美術後援
者とともに劇団「ユリシーズ」を創設、メキシコ演劇の改革に尽力する。

メロは、1911 年から 1917 年にかけて国立美術学校で正式に絵を学ぶ。フェルミン・レブエルタ
ス、ラモン・アルバ・デ・ラ・カナル、ジャン・シャルローとともに壁画家たちの運動に積極的
に参加する。シャルローからフレスコ画法を学ぶ。メイン・ライブラリーのイベリア系アメリカ
人の人種差別廃止を讃えて、カルロス・メリダとともに文部省の壁画 2 点を制作。1930 年石版画
技術学校（中央美術学校）を設立し、カルロス・オロスコ・ロメロ、フリオ・カステジャノス、
フランシスコ・ドサマンテス他、数多くの画学生が学んだ。1935 年ニューヨークのジュリアン・
レヴィ・ギャラリーでモホリ＝ナギ風のレイヨグラムを発表、成功を収める。米国に長く滞在し、
オクラホマ大学で版画を教える。

Taller de Grafica Popular en Mexico, 1960. Port folio. Chemise rempliée (268 x 398 mm) contenant
144 planches imprimées sur des papiers de couleurs différentes. La plupart en noir et blanc
quelques unes en couleurs. Tirage à 5 000 exemplaires. Chaque planche est numéroté et attribué à
un artiste. La couverture du portfolio et du livret son de Adolfo Quinteros. Celui-ci fait 22 pages.
(Ces deux gravures portent le total à 146). Le tout est en très bel voir parfait état. Souvent
incomplet, ce portfolio témoin d'une histoire politique intense est devenu rare. les artistes ayant
participés sont les suivants : Ignacio Aguirre, Jesus Alvarez Amaya, Luis Arenal, Alberto Beltran,
Angel Bracho, Celia Calderon, Fernando Castro-Pacheco, Elizabeth Catlett de Mora, Jesus

Celia Calderon (1921-1969 年)
メキシコシティ生まれ。版画の仕事で知られているが、画家
としても水彩画家としても評価が高い。1946 年以降国立芸術美術学校で教鞭を執り、メキシコ近
代美術の父と言われる批評家フスティーノ・フェルナンデスから賞賛を得る。ブリティシュカウ
ンシルの奨学金を得て、ロンドンのスレード美術学校で版画の勉強を終え、旧ソビエト連邦共和

国の招きで極東を旅し、北京で個展を開催する。版画家としてのセリアは、エッチングとリトグ
ラフでいくつもの技法を駆使する。1947 年メキシコ版画家協会に、1952 年民衆版画工房に参加す

生まれ。1922 年アルフレド・ラモス・マルティネスが指導する野外美術学校に参加。彼の作風は
アカデミックで、壁画、彫刻、版画、その他の分野にもその特色が見られる。1924-34 年欧州や
米国各地を旅し、カルフォルニア州ロサンゼルス国際博覧会公園美術館で初の個展。1934 年メキ
シコに戻り、1945 年カルロス・アルバラド・ラングとともにドライポイントを始める。1986 年国
立芸術宮殿で回顧展。作品の持つ深い歴史的宗教的内容は卓越した技術によって描き出された。
個人宅の壁画制作。IMSS（メキシコ社会保障協会）のレリーフ群や象徴的彫刻群の制作を行う。

RAÚL ANGUIANO (1915-2006 年)

同盟に加わる。1938 年共同制作の中心となった民衆版画工房の設立メンバーとなり、労働者や小
作農たちとの連帯意識を大切に、主に版画を制作をする。同年国立芸術宮殿で初の個展。1941 年
渡米し、勉学のかたわら教鞭に立つ。1934 年メキシコシティのカルロスＡ.カリージョ学校のフ
レスコ画社会主義教育に賛同、壁画家として仕事を開始する。彼の壁画は第二壁画派世代に属し、
同期の壁画家にゴンサレス・カマレナ、フアン・オゴルマンなどがいる。アンギアノの思想は現
代メキシコ美術のほかの分野にも広がっていった。

顔料「アトゥルカラー」を開発し、数点の巨大なパノラマ画を制作する。アトゥルとはナワトル
語で水を意味する。火山に対する神秘的かつ科学的興味を深める。火山研究や芸術、人類学や言

ALFREDO ZALCE(1908-2003 年)
ミチョアカン州パッツクアロウ生まれ。壁画派第二世代に
属する画家、版画家、彫刻家。国立美術学校のゲルマン・ゲドビウス、ディエゴ・リベラの下で
学ぶ。1930 年タスコ絵画学校の設立を命じられる。雑誌『コンテンポラリー』に時々挿絵を寄せ
る。革命的作家・美術家同盟のメンバーで、レオポルド・メンデス、パブロ・オーヒギンス、ル
イス・アレナルとともに民衆版画工房の創設メンバーの一人でもある。メキシコシティを離れ、
生まれ故郷の新世代の美術家たちの育成にあたった。
