1. Program Outline
The Ritsumeikan Trust is hosting the Asia Future Session as one of the opening commemorative projects of Osaka
Ibaraki Campus (OIC). Young students of various cultural backgrounds will gather at OIC to discuss issues in Asia,
together with guests who are on the front line of solving global social issues. The program aims to cultivate
individuals that will lead the next generation, and create a human network that would grow towards the future.
This is the very first Asia Future Session being held. Around thirty students from Ritsumeikan University,
Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Kyung Hee University (Korea) and Tamkang University (Taiwan) will stay
and learn together at OIC for three days. The program consists of group work, lecture by guests, discussion with
guests and much more. This is a great opportunity to think about Asia and grow through the experience.
The whole program will be conducted in English.

Group discussion-1: Sharing issues and interests
Lecture by three guests (Jpn→Eng interpretation provided) (see attachment 1 for guests' details)
Group discussion-2: Exchanging ideas and preparing for the round-table session
Roundtable Discussion: Open discussion with the whole group, guest, and public audience
Dinner (Buffet-style party with the guests)

* Accommodation will be provided at OIC Seminar House for free of charge. Students will be sharing rooms with
others of the same gender.
* Lunch on 27th and dinners on 26th and 27th will be served as part of this program. You are kindly requested to
buy your breakfast and other necessary meals while you stay.
* (for students from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Kyung Hee university, Tamkang University) Travel ticket will
be provided by the Ritsumeikan trust.
2. Application Eligibility
Applicants must fulfill ALL of the following requirements;
1. Students who are currently enrolled at either one of the participating universities (Ritsumeikan University,
Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Kyung Hee University, and Tamkang University).
2. Be able to actively participate in discussion in English
3. Be able to attend the entire program
3. How to Apply
Please send (1) Application Form and (2) Application Essay to [email protected] by Sunday November
8th, 2015.
* Application documents submitted after the deadline will not be accepted for any reason whatsoever.
* The result of screening will be announced around November 14, 2015 via E-mail address that you provided in the
application form. (Eight students will be selected from each university.)
4. Remarks
As a principle, you shall be responsible for any difficulties that should arise during the course of the program. Ensure that you conduct yourself in a
responsible and considerate manner at all times. Closely observe all rules and regulations and follow instructions given by faculty and staff members
on-site.
(Attachment 1) Guests for the Asia Future Session Our distinct young guests are the role models of the next generation. They raise issues and make actions to change the world from Asia. Tamako Mitarai Representative Director of Kesennuma Knitting Co., Ltd. Born in 1985 in Japan (Photo Credit: Yoichi Nagano) Ms. Mitarai graduated from the Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo. After working at McKinsey & Company, she became the first fellow for the Prime minister of Bhutan and worked in the countryʼs tourism sector. She came back to Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake and started Kesennuma Knitting, selling hand‐knitted sweaters made by people from the tsunami affected area. Her goal is to contribute to support a system that would contribute to the local economy. Kazunari Taguchi President & CEO of Borderless Japan Corp. Born in 1980 in Japan Mr. Taguchi graduated from the School of Commerce, Waseda University. After working at Misumi Corp., he established Borderless Japan which claims to be “the platform company for social entrepreneurs”. While recruiting people that want to be social entrepreneurs and letting them operate projects, the company provides management recourses such as funding, people and know‐
how to encourage social business startups. Kah Wai Lim Movie director Born in 1973 in Malaysia Born in the multiethnic country of Malaysia, he came to Japan to study at Osaka University. After graduating from university and working in Japan, he enrolled in a film school in China and started his film making career. He calls himself “a film drifter” and makes films based on his experience while traveling around the world as a backpacker. The romance movie “Koi suru minami” which features two love stories that go beyond language and nationality barriers aroused much interest at film festivals such as Osaka Asian Film Festival, South Taiwan Film Festival and Hong Kong Independent Film Festival.
Invitation to “Asia Future Session”
Cross‐cultural students workshop for future‐oriented discussion on issues in Asia Ritsumeikan University Osaka Ibaraki Campus Opening Commemorative Project Toward a future that increases the happiness of all.
First of all, I would like to sincerely thank you for your continued support for the Ritsumeikan Academy. The Ritsumeikan Academy opened the Osaka Ibaraki Campus in April 2015 with the campus concept being “Gateway to Asia”. In the spirit of this concept, we strive to cultivate individuals that are innovative and excel in multi‐cultural environments by connecting people and intellects. As the multi‐dimensional structure of international society shifts away from a concentration of power, we recognize diversification of values. In such circumstances, the Asia region, which inherits diverse cultural values, holds the potential to lead peaceful coexistence of various societies in the next generation through dialogue to overcome conflict. Now we must be courageous to move away from the old approach that seeks for “one single answer”. What is important for diverse societies to coexist is not to judge such answers based on an universal standard, but to find “problem that should be shared”. I believe that the students who will lead the next generation should initiate a movement to change the world by changing the mode of inquiry about the world in this moment. The Ritsumeikan Academy will host the Asia Future Session in 27‐29 November 2015 in order to symbolize such cross‐cultural interaction among students of various backgodunds. In this event, students from several countries and regions will gather at our campus, and take part in discussion to find problems that should be shared in Asia, together with guests who are on the front line of solving global social issues. I hope this effort will create the future actions of the next generation, and the Ritsumeikan Academy will take this opportunity to set a new standard for teaching and learning, which could better serve to the world. OIC開設記念式典の一つとしてAsia Future Sessionを開催します。若い多様な人材が「大阪いばらきキャンパス｣に集い、世
界で活躍してきた若い実践者と共にアジアが共有すべき問いを見出し、課題解決につながる議論を展開します。アジアの次
世代を担う人材を育成するとともに、将来につながる人的ネットワークの構築を目的としています。
プログラム内容
このセッションは今年度が初開催となります。APU、慶熙大学（韓国）、淡江大学（台湾）からの学生（約30名）と共にOICキャ
ンパスにて2泊3日の合宿形式で開催します。グループワーク、ゲストによる講演会、ゲストとのディスカッション等を通じ、アジ
アについて考え、成長していただくことを期待しています。
11月27日(金)
18:00～20:00　懇親会（招待学生、コーディネーターによる立食パーティー）
11月28日(土)
10:00～12:00　シェアリング（グループワーク）
招待学生を6グループに分け、各自が考えた「問い（アジアの課題）」の共有を行います。
13:00～15:00　ゲスト3名による講演会* （日本語、日→英の同時通訳あり）（ゲストの詳細は別紙を参照）
ゲストが立てた「問い」と起こした「行動」を聴き、各自が考えた「問い」「行動」について考えを深めます

プログラムに参加したことによる、本学での単位授与、単位認定は行いません。

以下の要件を全て満たすこと
①本学に在籍する学生（学部・大学院・留学等含む）
②語学要件：特に定めないが、英語でのグループディスカッションに積極的に参加できること
③セミナーの全行程（11/27(金)夕方～11/29(日)昼過ぎ）に参加できる学生

現地プログラム参加中の様々なトラブルについては、基本的に自己の責任において対処することになります。現地では十分な自覚を持
ち、責任ある行動を心掛けてください。法令・規則を遵守し、現地の教職員の指示に従ってください。

リム・カーワイ
映画監督
1973 年
マレーシア⽣まれ
多⺠族国家であるマレーシアで⽣まれ、⽇本への憧れから⼤阪⼤学へ⼊学。卒業後⽇本で就職
した後、中国の映画学校へ留学し、映像撮影の現場に⼊る。「シネマ・ドリフター」を⾃称し、
各国をバックパッカーとして放浪しながら、そこで吸収したことを映画として描いている。⾔
葉や国籍を超えた⼆つのラブストーリーを描いた『恋するミナミ』は、⼤阪映画際や台湾台南
国際映画祭、⾹港インディペンデント映画祭にて上映されるなど、多くの話題を呼んだ。

⽴命館学園は、2015 年 4 ⽉に⼤阪いばらきキャンパスを開設いたしました。⼤阪いばらきキ
ャンパスは「アジアのゲートウェイ」をコンセプトとし、⼈と⼈、知と知をつなぎ、イノベーテ
ィブな多⽂化協働⼈材を育成することを⽬指します。
⼀極集中の体制が崩れ多極化する国際社会において、価値観が多様化しています。このような
社会において、相互の対話による次代の共⽣型社会を牽引する可能性は、もともと多様な価値観
を持つアジア地域にこそあります。
いま我々は、
「答えを求める」という旧来のアプローチを捨て去る勇気を持たねばなりません。
多様性ある社会が共⽣するために求められるのは、答えの優劣を決めることではなく、「共有す
べき問い」を発⾒することです。次代を担う学⽣たちがいま何を話し合うべきなのかという問い
を⾃ら⽴てることが、世界を変えていく新たな⾏動を⽣み出すと考えます。
このような多⽂化が集い議論を尽くす象徴的な取り組みとして、⽴命館学園は 2015 年 11 ⽉
に Asia Future Session を開催致します。本事業では、様々な国・地域の学⽣がキャンパスに
集い、国際社会で課題解決に挑む実践者と共に、アジアが共有すべき問いを⾒出す議論を展開し
ます。
次世代のこれからの⾏動をつくると共に、多様性を背景とした新しい教育のスタンダードを⾒
出す契機とし、この取組みを世界へと発信して参ります。
