Dr. Robin K. McGuire
アメリカ地震工学研究所(EERI)の元専務、アメリカ地震学会(SSA)元会長でもある Robin K.
McGuire 博士は、地震リスクコンサルティング業務を行う Risk Engineering, Inc.を 1984 年に設
立し、以来 30 年以上コンサルティング業務を行っている。一様ハザードスペクトルや地震ハザ
ードの再分解、ライフラインの地震リスク評価など今日最先端の確率論的地震リスク評価で一般
的に用いられている手法を最初に開発し論文として取り纏めており、故 C.A. Cornell 教授と並ぶ
著名な研究者として知られている。その後も、地震ハザードや地震リスク評価を行うための新た
なソフトウェアの開発を継続的に行い、顧客に提供している。
また、2007 年 2 月、地震やその他の自然災害に関する確率論的評価の工学応用を進めたこと
が評価され全米工学アカデミーの会員に選出された。2004 年に出版された“EERI monograph
Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis”の執筆も担当した。

、マサチューセッツ工科大学から博士号（構造工学）の学位を取得している。
Dr. McGuire, a past director of EERI and a past president of the Seismological Society of
America (SSA), formed Risk Engineering, Inc. in 1984 to provide high-quality consulting
services to clients faced with engineering risk problems. He first developed and published
many of the methods taken today as requirements for advanced probabilistic seismic risk
analysis, including: probabilistic analysis at multiple frequencies to calculate a uniform hazard
spectrum, deaggregation of seismic hazard to identify major contributors to hazard, and
concepts of seismic risk to a lifeline system. He continues to develop new applications of
seismic hazard and risk methods, and designs software to analyze the challenging problems
facing his clients.
Dr. McGuire was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in February 2007. It is one
of the highest professional distinctions accorded to engineers. He was elected "for advances
in engineering applications of probabilistic assessments in earthquakes and other natural
hazards." He authored the EERI monograph Seismic Hazard and Risk Analysis, published in
2004.
He earned an S.B. in civil engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.S. in
structural engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in structural
engineering from MIT.
