International Symposium on the Promotion of Women’s public and
socio-economic role in the MENA region
Brief
 Japanese government is the chair of the Deauville Partnership in 2016
 Japan is hosting an international symposium that focuses on the promotion of women’s socio-economic role in
MENA countries as one of its efforts for socio-economic reform in the region.
 Experts who are invited from the MENA region, G7 countries and International Organizations make a panel
discussion on ①MENA countries’ accomplishments and challenges with regard to the promotion of women’s roles
and ②how the participating countries and international organizations should support MENA countries’ efforts to
improve the socio-economic roles of women.
※【 Deauville Partnership 】
• The Deauville Partnership was launched as a framework mechanism to support countries in the Arab world engage in transition to stable democratic governments and endeavor to
socio-economic reform. The framework was launched at the Deauville Summit in May 2011 after the Arab Spring which began in earnest in early 2011. “The Declaration of the G8 on
the Arab Spring” adopted at the Summit called for cooperation from organizations including international financial institutions and United Nations organizations. It also called for states
to strengthen Bi-lateral relationships with transitional countries, promote trade and investment, support regional integration, and increase humanitarian exchange.
• Participating countries consist of G7 countries, 11 countries in the Middle East, and International Organizations. Heretofore, G7 countries have been the chair and Ministerial meetings
were held to report and discuss the progress of the transition process. In addition, relevant meetings have been held at the initiative of chair countries. Japan is this year’s chair.

中東・北アフリカ地域における女性の経済・社会・政治的役割の推進
に関する国際シンポジウム
概要
 ２０１６年，日本はＧ７ドーヴィル・パートナーシップ*の議長国。
 日本の取組の一環として，中東・北アフリカ地域における女性の経済・社会・政治的参画の現状及
び課題に関する国際シンポジウムを主催。
 地域から有識者を招へいし，①中東・北アフリカ地域各国の主体的取り組み，②域内／外諸国及び
国際機関による支援／関与の適切性の観点からパネル・ディスカッションを行う。
※【ドーヴィル・パートナーシップ】
• 「アラブの春」を受け，2011年5月のドーヴィル・サミットにて，アラブ諸国における安定的な民主的体制への移行と経済社会改革の努力を
支援する枠組みとして設立。国際金融機関や国連機関等に対して協調を呼びかけるとともに，移行国に対する二国間援助の強化，貿
易・投資促進，域内統合支援，人的交流等を謳った｢アラブの春に関するG8宣言｣を採択。
• 参加国はG7の他，中東の11か国及び国際機関から成り，これまでG7がそれぞれ議長国となり，移行国の移行プロセスの進展等につい
て報告・協議を行う閣僚級会合が行われてきたほか，議長国のイニシアティブにより関連会合が開催されてきた。本年は日本が議長国。
