APPLESOX GOING FOR PERFECT HOMESTAND ON FIREWORKS NIGHT
The Wenatchee AppleSox (14-10, 7-5 North), have a shot for a perfect 6-0 homestand, Saturday night, on Fireworks Night presented by Numerica Credit Union...Wenatchee will play its last three league games of the WCL First Half, June 3-5 at Cowlitz ....the
AppleSox are playing their 18th franchise season (13th in the WCL) and are led by first-year head coach, Kyle Krustangel (14-10)
(.583), who has completed two years as the head coach at Yakima Valley College during the NCAA regular season...Krustangel is
assisted by Yakima’s Cash Ulrich and Riley Drongesen, both in their first seasons.
APPLESOX WIN SIXTH-STRAIGHT GAME, FIRST TIME SINCE 2013
The AppleSox erased a 4-0 deficit last night, to win 8-5 over the River City Athletics...Wenatchee has now won 113 nonleague games all-time...Wenatchee was down 4-0 after the top half of the first inning, but got two runs back in the first on
a 2-RBI double for Alex Gonzales...Josh Zamora hit his second home run of the week in the third inning...a solo shot cut
the deficit to one...the AppleSox scored another run in the fourth, followed by three in the fifth to overcome the 5-4 deficit...
the AppleSox three runs were on a batter hit by pitch and two subsequent walks with the bases loaded...Steen Fredrickson picked up the victory, his first of the season, and Jalen Garcia got the save for pitching the final two innings of relief...
Michael Spellacy also covered two innings out of the bullpen.
TONIGHT’S NOTES
THE PLAYOFF HUNT
To catch the current WCL leader,
the AppleSox need to win their final
three first-half games (at Cowlitz,
Monday-Wednesday) and have the
Kelowna Falcons lose two of their
last three games July 3-5 to the Yakima Valley Pippins...if the AppleSox
lose one of the next three, Kelowna
must lose all three to the Pippins
(Falcons hold tiebreaker)...in that
scenario, Bellingham must also win
three of the last five games against
Walla Walla.
THAT’S A WINNING
STREAK...
Wenatchee has now won its last
four league games (six overall)...the
6-straight wins is now the longest
such streak for the AppleSox since
2013.
ZAMORA IN NONLEAGUE PLAY
Josh Zamora is swinging a hot bat
in non-league play...the AppleSox
middle infielder has two home runs
this week in non-league play...one
against the Everett Merchants, and
another last night against the River
City Athletics.
HOME WIN TOTAL
Including non-league play, the
AppleSox won 14 home games last
season...the hometown nine is already up to an 11-3 record at home
this year, with 17 home games still
left to play.
Tonight’s game could mark the
team’s 100th home non-league
win...on Fireworks Night to boot!
6/30/17 @WEN
W, 8-5
ON FIREWORKS NIGHT
The AppleSox are 8-9 all-time on
Fireworks Night and 3-1 against
non-league opponents...Wenatchee
has won its last two (last year
against Kelowna and 2015 versus
Klamath Falls)...this is the earliest
for a Fireworks Night in team history...in 2014 the game was played
on July 2...every other year, the
game was played on July 3.
