Rachel Sparrow, Soprano 1220 Central St. #2E, Evanston, IL 60201 (208) 380-3629 [email protected] Rachel Sparrow first drew attention in 2012, winning regional and national competitions with the coloratura showpiece “Bell Song” from Lakmé. In Italy, Sparrow performed the title role in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with La Musica Lirica. Favorite Chicago area roles include: Jenny Lind in Barnum, La Fée in Cendrillon and Drusilla in L'incoronazione di Poppea. After earning her master's degree from Northwestern University in 2013, Sparrow made her Indianapolis Opera debut this fall, as Polly in The Threepenny Opera. This promising young soprano is looking forward to her debut this summer with Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre as Gretchen in The Student Prince. Critical Acclaim “Following close behind, in second place, was soprano Rachel Sparrow, who mesmerized the panel in the semis with her nuanced delivery of the “Bell Song” from Delibes’ Lakmé;… it was her energetic version of “Glitter and be Gay” from Bernstein’s Candide, however, that likely won her the Audience Choice Award.” – Comic Opera Guild (2014) “Sparrow was dewily sweet as Polly.” – Indiana Public Media (2013) “Sparrow hits gorgeous operatic notes out of the park as Jenny Lind.” – Chicago Theater Beat (2012) “Rachel Sparrow has all the vocal talent she needs to portray Swedish opera star Jenny Lind.” – Chicago Reader (2012) “Park has cast a bona fide opera singer, Rachel Sparrow, to play Barnum's ‘Swedish Nightingale’, Jenny Lind. She does a lovely job with her solo.” - Talkin’ Broadway Regional (2012) “Four highly talented, charismatic voice students from Northwestern: Rachel Sparrow, soprano … all combined to sing the Quartet from Rigoletto. Their stage presence and dramatic facial expressions added to the marvelous singing.” – Kenosha, WI News (2013)
