Fertilizer Retail Guide Calculating % Slow Release Nitrogen A product with 50% slow release nitrogen means that half of the nitrogen is available immediately and half will be slowly released over a period of time. Some nitrogen sources are “quick release” and other sources are “slow release”. Other names are interchangeably used, such as timed-released, controlled-release, slowly-available, or water-insoluble.
