1. Why is ‘Lord of the flies’ an allegorical novel?
- Are the characters allegorical?
- What are the main symbols of the book and what do they represent?
- What is the meaning of the title?
- What events and ideas have secondary or symbolic meaning?
2. One of the major themes of ‘Lord of the flies’ is the conflict between civilization and
slavery. Discuss providing specific examples.
- Which characters symbolize the conflict?
- What is the meaning of the ‘conch’ and the ‘beast’?
- What are the results of savage behavior among the boys on the island and the
civilization in general?
- What do you believe happens after the boys leave the island?
- Which character do you admire most and why?
