Accompaniments for psalms and acclamations in the readings section of Today’s Missal and Breaking Bread are in the OCP publication Respond & Acclaim. In order to facilitate the use of this accompaniment with the OCP missal program, please note the following: • NEW MASS TRANSLATION: This revised accompaniment edition includes the new English translation of the Mass, introduced in the United States in November 2011. For the first time, OCP is showing the Order of Mass in this edition, containing (as required) the newly-translated chants from The Roman Missal. Accompaniments for these chants appear here, if available, and if no accompaniment exists we have presented the chants in unaccompanied form for reference, along with other rubrics and responses found in the Order of Mass. Please note that the song numbers found in the Order of Mass in your missal match the Order of Mass numbers in this accompaniment edition. • ACCOMPANIMENT NUMBERS: With this revision, the accompaniment numbers have been updated, but are still referenced at the top of each song in Today’s Missal, Music Issue, and Breaking Bread as “Acc #___.” This accompaniment number will not change during the life of this revision (2013–2016), and is completely separate from the song number in the missal (which may change from year to year). The accompaniment number will be the same number in all three accompaniment books (Keyboard, Guitar, and Solo Instrument) to better accommodate ensemble playing. In 2012 OCP published Choral Praise: 3rd Edition, with updated versions of hymns, songs, psalms and service music, reflecting the new English translation and other significant changes in our music program. Because many parishes still use Choral Praise Comprehensive: 2nd Edition, references to the 2nd edition still appear with each song in your missal for 2013. The 2014 missals include references to the 3rd edition. However, to alert you of any change or alteration made in a song in the missal, a footnote on the accompaniment page for that song has been included. A note should then be made of the differences in your copies of Choral Praise Comprehensive: 2nd Edition. • BOOK ORGANIZATION: The organization of this book is similar to the last revision, as shown in the Table of Contents. All hymns and songs are sequenced by title in strict alphabetical order. Subsequent sections of this book reflect the order in which they occur in Music Issue: “Psalms and Canticles” (psalm number order), “Rites” (liturgical order), “Mass Settings” (alphabetical order by Mass title, then liturgical order within), “Additional Service Music” (liturgical order), “New Music” (beginning liturgical year 2014) and “Indexes.” • CHORD SYMBOLS: Chord symbols in the Keyboard Accompaniment Book continue to match the chord symbols in the Guitar Accompaniment Book so the two instruments can be played together on all hymns and songs. Since most traditional hymns were not originally intended for the guitar, the chord symbols have been adjusted in varying degrees from the actual keyboard harmony. These chord symbols are not intended to be a harmonic realization of the keyboard part, but rather to match a progression that is practical and playable on the guitar. A footnote directing the keyboardist to play from the chord symbols when in ensemble with the guitar is given on each of these hymns. Introduction brackets are still present for suggested introductions to each song. • INDEX FORMAT: The indexes that are integral for this book (“Acknowledgments” and “Index of Titles”) are located in the back. Those indexes which are most helpful for liturgy planning are available as a separate bound publication entitled Master Index. The Master Index includes the following indexes: Supplemental Sources, Text and Music Sources, Language, Musical Style, Metrical and Alphabetical Hymn Tunes, Scriptural, Topical, Suggested Psalms for the Liturgical Year, and Liturgical. • BEFORE RECYCLING: This accompaniment book contains only those titles currently appearing in the OCP missal program. Please be sure to compare the contents of this revised edition with the contents of your old edition for any titles you may wish to retain before recycling the old edition. Most titles which have been deleted from the missals and accompaniment books are now available as digital editions for single-purchase download on ocp.org or LicenSingOnline.org. Home | Table of Contents | 1–299 | 300–599 | 600–881 | Indexes | Master Index Important Changes Made in 2014: Due to the Vatican’s recent ruling that the use of Christological tropes or other adaptations to the text of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) is now prohibited, we have revised several instances of this in Masses where they had previously been used. The Masses affected by this change are Mass of Christ the Savior (Dan Schutte), Mass of Glory (Ken Canedo and Bob Hurd), and Mass of St. Paul the Apostle (Christopher Walker), plus Kevin Keil’s “Advent Lamb of God.” Dan Schutte’s “Lamb of God Litany” from Mass of God’s Promise was unable to be retained in Breaking Bread and Music Issue. Furthermore, we have separated the two components of Tom Kendzia’s “Lamb of God/Taste and See,” placing the “Lamb of God” portion in the appropriate Service Music section. This change makes clearer the liturgical functions of each, so that when playing “Taste and See” after the “Lamb of God” no accompaniment is played connecting the two, in accord with the rubrics in GIRM #32. A footnote appears with each component directing the user to each portion, noting that they can be played in tandem.
