About Partnerships for Inclusion
PFI is a statewide technical assistance project that promotes the inclusion of young children with disabilities, birth through five years,
and their families in all aspects of community life. With offices in the
western, central and eastern regions of North Carolina, project staff
work closely with a variety of individuals and groups. Typically these
include public schools, child care and preschool programs, early intervention agencies, resource and referral agencies, community colleges,
interagency councils, and smart Start partnerships. Funded by the
Public Schools of North Carolina and the Department of Health and
Human Services, PFI offers an array of services. These include consultation to improve early childhood program quality and to promote
children’s smooth transitions among programs, training, assistance
with strategic planning and program evaluation, resource linking, and
a quarterly magazine that highlights issues and programs in early
childhood inclusion. The project also assists state agencies to develop
policy and program initiatives that facilitate full community integration of children with disabilities and their families.
