Friday Report for January 23, 2015
1.
Eden Prairie CERT-CSU – At the February 3 Council meeting we will be discussing a new program that we would
like to implement called CERT-CSU (Community Emergency Response Team-Cultural Services Unit). This would
be an extension of our current CERT program where we would recruit a team of 12 to 20 trained community
members able to support community disaster recovery and outreach/prevention activities with culturally
specific languages and cultural insight. This new Eden Prairie’s CERT-CSU training program would be a
partnership between the City of Eden Prairie, ECHO (Emergency, Community, Health, and Outreach),
Minnesota Medical Reserve Corps and Hennepin County.
3.
Feb 3 City Council Workshop – The topic of our Feb 3 Council workshop will be the city’s emergency operations
plan. The Fire Department will provide an overview and an update of our Eden Prairie Emergency Operations
Plan.
4.
No-Fault Sanitary Sewer and Water Main Break Coverage – The City of Eden Prairie, through the League of
Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT), provides coverage to water and sewer utility customers who
experience property damage or clean-up costs from a sewer back-up caused by a blockage in the city’s
sanitary sewer main. Coverage is also extended to property owners who experience damage or clean-up
costs from a break in the city’s water main. Coverage is limited to $40,000 per occurrence and will reimburse
citizens for qualifying costs not covered by a property owner’s personal home insurance plan. Certain
catastrophic events are excluded by the LMCIT plan, such as damage caused by a weather related event for
which FEMA assistance is available, an interruption in electric power supply to any sewer lift station for a period
longer than 72 hours, or damage caused by an event the National Weather Service determines to be a 100year storm. For more information about limits and coverage, please contact Lori Kerns in the Office of the City
Manager at [email protected].
2.
Jack Niles Award – Congratulations go out to our Parks and Recreation Director
Jay Lotthammer for winning the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association Jack
Niles Award. This prestigious award is given only to the most elite Parks and
Recreation professionals. I have been told that this is the “Emmy” of the Parks and
Recreation world.
Pictured: Jay pauses for a
photo with Mary Pat Black,
former president of the
Minnesota Recreation and
Park Association.
5.
LMCIT Dividend – The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT), depending on its financial position at
the close of its business year, distributes dividends to its members based on their loss experience. For 2014, we
have received a property/casualty insurance dividend check for $98,289. This dividend tracks closely with the
amount that we received in 2013.
The LMCIT has been able to distribute dividends to its members since 1987. Here is a summary of our divided
history since 2006:
2006 – $41,623
2007 – $72,567
2008 – $42,087
2009 – $94,887
2010 – $101,547
2011 – $123,531
2012 – $165,479
2013 – $104,290
