(BLO) Ch 1. Sc in same st. Sc 4. Turn 3. Ch 1. Hdc same st. Hdc 4. 4. (BLO) Ch 1. Sc in same st. Sc 4. Turn. Repeat the sequence until you have 58 total rows. Fold the band in half and sl st it together to form a band. Make sure the ribbing is on the outside, and your seam is on the inside. Body of hat: 1. Join yarn and sc around the top of the band. One side is a bit more “frilly” and that is the side I chose. Work about 3 sts over the 2 rows of 1 sc and hdc. Join with a sl st. (about 88 sts) 2. – 23. Ch 3, hdc in first sp. (ch 1, hdc in next sp) work all around the hat until you reach the last space. Ch 1, Join with sl st in 2nd ch from the beginning. Tie off. For the hatches, you will essentially be working a simple chain through spaces between the stitches. The natural flow will be a diagonal pattern, going to the right and downward (you are working from the top down to the band) (Once you get started it begins to flow easier!) Join your yarn at the top of your hat through a space (anywhere). Bring your hook up through the first sp. Go down through the first sp, up through the second, yarn over and pull it through to the space one, and through the loop on hook. Go down in the next sp (where your yarn is coming up), and up through the following sp, yarn over and pull through .continue until you reach the band of the hat. Count 6 spaces to the left of where you joined. Work your next chain hatch in the 7th space. Continue working hatches all around the hat. To finish, weave a peace of yarn very loosely in and out of the top of the hat (about ever 3-‐4 spaces). Once you meet back where you started, pull ends tightly, making the hat scrunch and the hole will close. Make sure to pull it very tight and secure wit a strong knot. Finish with a pom pom on top.
