June 17 is a day that Angus won’t soon forget. The tornado may have ripped apart homes, but it brought a community closer together. Our community picked itself up and
everyone pitched in to help, friends, families and strangers
alike. Those strangers are now friends, and the town of
Angus is stronger for knowing that no one will be left
behind. To celebrate our sense of community and to celebrate the wonderful people who live here, the community of
Angus held a BBQ where everyone was invited.

Centre grand opening
Simcoe County’s newest sports facility officially
opened this past Saturday and that had many youngsters jumping for joy. Infinity Gymnastics Centre is
the new name, Utopia is the new location. This past
Saturday was the facility’s grand opening. Essa
Township Mayor Terry Dowdall and members of the
Council were on hand to welcome the new business
and help cut the ribbon to officially open the centre.
The well-attended event named ‘Gymfest’ (sure to be
an annual event) offered many other activities including: demonstrations by competitive athletes, Infinity
coaches on hand to guide new and young potential
gymnasts around the gym and author and Olympian
Jessica Tudos paid a visit to promote her new book
‘Kika the Upside Down Girl’. Registration for the
club’s Fall session is on-going and more information
can be found at infinitygymnastics.ca

Machine while people filled the Angus Recreational Centre,
smiling, laughing and hugging, remembering the horrible
scene left behind and the neighbours who were there to lean
on when things felt like they couldn’t get any worse. The
sense of gratitude and community were thick in the room.
“This is an amazing community, it’s stronger now than
its ever been and I think you can see the support, and how
many companies and individuals came forward when you
really needed them,” stated Mayor, Terry Dowdall. “You
don’t see that everywhere, and to see them even today after
the fact, coming out to the BBQ. A lot of residents are here
to thank those people; that speaks volumes for them to take
the time, it’s kind of emotional. There are some great people and they are all right here.”
Local companies and service groups again donated their
time and resources to help this BBQ to take place. A big
thank you to them, to the community volunteers and to
everyone who helped our neighbours in their time of need.
“Angus is a great place to live,” commented Deputy
Mayor, Sandi MacDonald. “We want to recognize the volunteers that came out and spent all their time. We came
together as a community and that’s what this is celebrating:
our community spirit.”
Celebrating 25 years
This year the Angus Mobile Home Park (located off Cecil Street) is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a corporation. On August 16th residents of the park celebrated with a BBQ. Despite the weather forcing the
approximately 70 who attended indoors, everyone had a wonderful time and the recreation hall was filled with
music and laughter. The day included great food, celebration cake, door prizes and a group photo. As the residents and families celebrated they reflected on the past with neighbours and shared wonderful memories and
stories.
The park would like to thank the many volunteers for their assistance. The park would also like to express
their gratitude to the following companies for their donations that helped make this BBQ a success: Giant
Tiger for their generous donation of buns and condiments; Gift Certificates from The Diner, Crabby Joe’s
(Angus), and Grandmas’ Diner as well as prizes from Regal Representative Mrs. Crossmen.

Terry Fox Event
his year’s Terry Fox Run will be held on Friday,
September 12, starting at the Buell Gym Ball
Diamond area. Participants can walk, run, bike
or rollerblade along a 5km or 10km route. This is a noncompetitive event. You may register the morning of the

run or in advance through your unit representative.
The intent of the run is to raise funds for cancer research.
Registration begins at 0930 hrs and all events concluded by 1400 hrs.

The Terry Fox Head Shave will occur at the
Terry Fox Run on 12 Sept at 1200 at the Base
Baseball Diamonds.
“I need brave volunteers to step forward and
shave their heads,” commented Capt McBride.
“It’s a great way to raise money to support Terry
Fox. I have one volunteer but would love to have
one volunteer from each unit on base. I’ve done it
twice and it was a great experience! Therefore,
volunteer and encourage others to step forward.”

FB Borden made a fantastic showing
this past weekend as seven of our teams
competed in the annual Barrie
Dragonboat Festival alongside teams from all
over the area.
Dragonboating has been around for many centuries. “One of the most important mythical creatures in Chinese mythology, the dragon is the
controller of the rain, the river, the sea, and all
other kinds of water; symbol of divine power and
energy.” writes Deming An, Ph.D., a professor of
folklore at the Institute of Literature, Chinese
Academy of Social Sciences, in Beijing, and coauthor of Handbook of Chinese Mythology.
To appease the powerful dragon spirit, thus
averting misfortune and encouraging rainfall for
crops, the people raced boats and made sacrifices
of food into the water. Dragonboat festivals frequently begin with a “Waking the dragon” ceremony where the eyes of the dragon head on the
bow of the boat are painted red to re-energize the
spirit or “Qi” of the dragon.
Barrie’s festival saw 54 teams competing this
year, each representing a different local charity.
Over the course of the day, these teams battled it
out in 6 different divisions.
“Base Borden is very excited and thrilled to
participate in the Barrie Dragonboat Festival,”
commented Acting Base Commander, Cdr
Langlois. “We have 7 teams from Base who have
been training hard and putting on BBQ’s and
draws to raise funds for different organizations.
The support to the community is very dear to our
hearts and this event gives us the opportunity to
give to these organizations.”
The water was very choppy, making for difficult race conditions and leading to an unexpected
rescue as the boat of the DG Bevan Dragons team
sunk. Thankfully, emergency boats were standing
by to effect a rescue, including a 1935 patrol boat
owned by local businessman, Peter Moore, which
just happened to be carrying Acting CFB Borden

team members from the water to safety. After a
short delay, the racing resumed without further
incident.
“This is my first (Dragonboat Festival) so I
enjoyed it, but apparently it (the water) was
rougher than any other day,” commented participant, Lt (N) Sylvie Salter. “I’m a bit wet, but this
is life. At least we came back with the boat! This
is a good thing!”
Right from the beginning, the competition was
fierce amongst the Borden teams, who included:
Mast Confusion of MLS, New Age Slayers from
Admin, Crimson Wave from RCEME, Blew
Bayou from HQ/Base Ops, the MIRauders from
31 Health Svcs, the Silverdarts from 16 Wing,
and finally Wash Out from Health Services
Training Centre. Team Wash Out not only won
the CFB Borden Dragon Masters Challenge Cup
but also came out on top in the Platinum division,
beating out the RCEME Crimson Tide who
placed second. Meanwhile, the Silverdarts from
16 Wing took the Silver division. Congratulations
to all of our teams, and more importantly, thank
you for your efforts to support your charities.

bateaux de sauvetage étaient prêts à intervenir,
notamment un patrouilleur de 1935 appartenant à
l’homme d’affaires local Peter Moore, à bord
duquel se trouvaient justement le Capf Langlois,

L’équipe Wash Out a non seulement remporté la
Dragon Masters Challenge Cup de la BFC
Borden, elle a aussi ravi les honneurs dans la
division Platine, devant l’équipe Crimson Tide du
GEMRC, qui a fini deuxième. Pendant ce temps,
les Silverdarts de la 16 Ere ont remporté la mise
dans la division Argent. Félicitations à toutes nos
équipes et, surtout, merci de vos efforts pour

The Borden Minor Basketball Association needs coaches and
referees for the 2014/2015 BMBA season
BMBA is looking for volunteer coaches and referees. Coaching will require a commitment
of one practice night (Mon-Thur) and game day on Saturdays. League commences on 18
October 2014 and runs until mid-March 2015. The Borden Minor Basketball Association
(BMBA) teaches children from the age of 6 to 17 sound basketball basics and team play
with emphasis on improving individual skills, conditioning, and sportsmanship. Team play
at five different divisions a 15 game schedule with games on Saturday and weekday practice. BMBA strictly enforces the league rule of fair playing time. There are four divisions:
Novice, Atom. Bantam and Midget. Games start at 0830 Saturdays and practice nights
start at 6 p.m. In addition, BMBA will need referees for 8 games every Saturday. This is a
paid contracted position for those 13 years of age and up. BMBA will provide a free referee and coach clinic prior to the start of the season. Should you be interested or require

L’Association de basket-ball mineur de la BFC Borden (ABBMB) enseigne aux enfants de
6 à 17 ans les rudiments du basket-ball et des sports d’équipe en mettant l’accent sur
l’amélioration des techniques individuelles, le conditionnement physique et l’esprit

Atome, Bantam et Midget. Les matchs commencent à 8 h 30 tous les samedis et les nuits
d’entraînement commencent à 18 h. L’ABBMB vont avoir besoin d’arbitres pour 8 jeux

ou’ve got to have good
health, so that you can get to
school, so that you can get a
job and have a life. When you don’t have
health the rest just falls apart,” says WO
Chris Pearson, a Physician Assistant and
Instructor at the Canadian Forces Health
Services Training Centre. It is for this reason, that he takes regular missionary trips to
different developing countries to help the
local people have a chance at a good life.
This year, Pearson’s missionary work
took him to Bolivia, where, with approximately 60% of the population living in
poverty, is one of the poorest and least
developed countries in Latin America.
(World Health Organization, WHO) The
country’s landscape ranges from the
Amazon Basin, to mountains, to rich farmland and is affected regularly by a rainy season, which makes many roads and trails
impassable. Along with traveling difficulties, Bolivia’s people speak a wide variety
of languages, making it challenging to find
a doctor that can understand their need. It is
for this reason that missionary work
becomes a lifeline to these people.
One of the main villages Pearson visited
was a place called Los Chacos, a small rural
village with a large farming population.
Livestock and feral dogs roam freely
through town, which was accessible only by
tractor, as the rainy season had flooded the
roads. Bolivia has a thriving brick industry,
thus many homes are constructed of brick
walls with thatch roofs and dirt floors, with
large families crammed in on cots. Parasites
are rampant, promoting malnutrition, as are
stomach conditions due to the deep fried
diet many Bolivians are used to. The clinics
provided medical and dental care along with
hygiene and nutrition education to help the
population learn to avoid or control these
afflictions and many others.

Pearson was traveling with a group
called Medical Ministry International
(MMI), who operate in many developing
countries, offering everything from primary
care (walk in clinic) to surgical care. MMI
will continue to track patients after the missionaries have come and gone to provide
ongoing care. This trip is one of many
Pearson has made either with a group or on
his own, and over time he has made his own
list of patients that he personally continues
to fund.
“There are multiple patients that I continue to follow, and I have been tracking them
in some cases for years. We are trying to
keep them healthy and on track. I mean, we
can’t fix them as well as we can here (in
Canada), but at least if we can mitigate it as
much as possible, the goal being keep them
healthy so they can stay in school and get a
real job. We leave money behind with a
contact we have that is willing to manage it
all so we just keep track through them.
Essentially, we get updates once in a while
when someone gets a surgery or when
something goes wrong, and we just keep
topping up the fund so they’ve got money to
use to provide treatment.”
According to Pearson, it takes only a little to be able to help, to give another person
a better life. “Take cleft palate repair for
example; there’s a couple of different
groups that provide free surgeries, but they
still need to get to where the surgery is
going to be and it’s a two week stay there.
They are going to need food and accommodation, at the end of the day they will probably stay with friends but they will need
about $150 to cover food. That’s an insurmountable amount of money for them.
$100-150 looks after it. What’s that to us?
It’s not a huge sum, but to them its 3-4
months salary. The majority of people are
really thankful and appreciate what we do.”
Pearson will continue to take his missionary trips, his next currently being
planned for Fall 2015. One trip at time, he

Il se rend régulièrement dans divers pays en voie de
développement pour y faire du travail missionnaire afin que
les habitants aient la possibilité de mener une vie normale.
Cette année, Pearson a effectué du travail missionnaire
en Bolivie dont 60 p. 100 de la population vit sous le seuil
de la pauvreté et qui est l’un des pays les plus pauvres et les
moins développés de l’Amérique latine (Organisation mondiale de la Santé, OMS). Dans ce pays, le paysage est varié,
passant du bassin de l’Amazone aux montagnes, puis aux
riches terres agricoles; pendant la saison des pluies, un
grand nombre de routes et de pistes sont impraticables. En
plus d’avoir de la difficulté à se déplacer, les Boliviens parlent un grand nombre de dialectes et ils ont peine à se faire
comprendre par un médecin. C’est pourquoi le travail missionnaire devient un filet de secours pour ces gens.
L’un des principaux villages visités par Pearson s’appelait Los Chacos, un petit village rural dont un grand nombre d’habitants sont des cultivateurs. Le bétail et les chiens
féraux errent librement dans le village qui n’était accessible
que par tracteur puisque les routes sont inondées pendant la
saison des pluies. Comme l’industrie de la brique est florissante en Bolivie, bon nombre des maisons ont des murs de
brique, un toit de chaume et un sol en terre battue; elles sont
habitées par des familles nombreuses entassées sur des lits
de camp. Les parasites pullulent, favorisant la malnutrition
tandis que le régime alimentaire d’un grand nombre de
Boliviens, composé essentiellement d’aliments cuits à
grande friture, cause des maux d’estomac. Dans les cliniques, on offre des soins médicaux et dentaires ainsi que de
l’information sur l’hygiène et l’alimentation afin d’aider la
population à apprendre à éviter ou à gérer ces affections et
bien d’autres encore.
Pearson a fait le voyage en compagnie du groupe
Medical Ministry International (MMI) qui œuvre dans un
grand nombre de pays en voie de développement y offrant
de multiples services, des soins primaires (cliniques sans
rendez vous) aux chirurgies. Après le départ des missionnaires, MMI fait le suivi des patients et leur donne des soins
continus. C’est l’un des nombreux voyages que Pearson a
effectués en compagnie d’un groupe ou seul et, avec le
temps, il a dressé sa propre liste de patients dont il continue
de subventionner personnellement les soins.
« Je continue de faire le suivi de multiples patients et,
dans certains cas, depuis des années. Nous essayons de les
garder en santé et sur la bonne voie. Nous ne pouvons les
guérir comme nous le ferions ici (au Canada), mais à tout le
moins, nous essayons d’atténuer leurs problèmes dans la
mesure du possible; notre objectif est de les garder en santé
afin qu’ils puissent continuer d’aller à l’école pour obtenir
un véritable emploi. Nous laissons des sommes en fiducie
chez un gestionnaire afin que nous puissions faire le suivi
des patients par son intermédiaire. Essentiellement, nous
recevons des comptes rendus à l’occasion, lorsque
quelqu’un se fait opérer ou lorsque sa situation se dégrade
et nous continuons tout simplement à réapprovisionner le
fonds afin de subventionner les traitements. »
Selon Pearson, il faut bien peu de choses pour aider
quelqu’un, pour améliorer la qualité de vie d’une personne.
« Prenons l’exemple d’une fente palatine; certains groupes
effectuent des chirurgies gratuitement, mais il faut tout de
même que les gens puissent se rendre là où travaillent les
chirurgiens et ils doivent y demeurer deux semaines. Il faut
donc payer la nourriture et l’hébergement; les patients
séjournent souvent chez des amis, mais ils ont besoin d’environ 150 $ pour la nourriture. C’est une somme inabordable pour eux. Ils ont seulement besoin de 100 $ à 150 $.
Qu’est ce que cela représente pour nous? Ce n’est pas
énorme, mais pour eux, cela constitue trois à quatre mois de
salaire. La majeure partie des gens sont vraiment reconnaissants et pleins de gratitude. »

terme. J’envisage encore de m’engager dans ce travail à
long terme. Lorsque je quitterai les Forces canadiennes, je
séjournerai pendant plusieurs mois au même endroit et j’essaierai d’améliorer le sort de la communauté. Je ferai beaucoup d’éducation et de prophylaxie afin de pouvoir changer
les choses en profondeur. Il y a des besoins partout, mais je
veux me rendre là où mes compétences et mes capacités
seront les plus utiles. Si chacun choisissait un petit coin du
monde et s’efforçait de l’améliorer, alors le monde
deviendrait meilleur. »

the Georgian Hills Vineyard in the beautiful Blue Mountains area.

pas pleinement de l’enseignement.

Defence Team who are off to pursue further education. This year was no different, as 5 Base Fund
Scholarships of $1000 each were awarded to our hard
working students.
“The goal of the scholarship is to establish community
ties with our local community, so it’s really nice that we
are able to give some money back and help the kids perhaps not get to school, but ease the burden a little bit,”
commented 16 Wing Commander, LCol Rodgers, Chair
of the Base Fund Scholarship Committee.
Congratulations to our winners: Samuel Croteau, who
graduated with a 93% and will be attending the University
of Ottawa to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering, Brianne
Lee, who graduated with a 92.33% and will be attending
the Vancouver School of Economics to pursue a Bachelor
of International Economics, Hanna Ivancovic, who graduated with an 86.5% and will be attending the University of
Guelph to pursue a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering,
Donald Foley, who graduated with a 86.5% and will be
attending Acadia University to pursue a Bachelor of
Music, and finally Veronique Langlois, who graduated
with an 85.17% and will be attending the University of
Ottawa to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Congratulations to all our winners, and good luck to
you and to the rest of Borden’s future scholars. Study

fardeau », a indiqué le Lcol Rodgers, commandant de la
16e Escadre et président du Comité des bourses d’études du
Fonds de la Base.

he Borden Golf Club was
filled with serving and retired
members of RCEME on
Thursday, August 7 as the 51st annual
National RCEME Golf Tournament
took place.
112 participants descended on
Borden from all over Canada to join in
the two days of golfing fun. With a meet
and greet on the night prior and banquets at the end of both days of golf,
there were lots of opportunities to catch
up with colleagues and friends.
“It’s a tournament, but a big social
gathering basically,” commented OPI,
Capt Grenier-Chalifoux. “People see old
friends that they have served with, they
are shaking hands and giving hugs.”
The tournament was also a time for
some family togetherness, as RCMP
officer Bill Laird came to golf with his
dad, a retired RCEME member. “It’s a
beautiful day, its nice to get out. It’s my
fourth tournament coming out with my
dad. He knows most of the guys, and its
nice to sit around and listen to the old
stories of back in the day.”
Along with the socializing, came the
golf of course. The first day was an individually scored day, to give everyone an
opportunity to bring their best game
while Day 2 was a team based, best ball
scramble.
“It’s a good day and great weather,”
commented participant Sgt Donny
Oakum. “It’s well organized and with a
lot of people here it should be a fun day
for everyone. A day of golf is always a
great day. I enjoyed the meet and greet
last night, the food was excellent and it
was well attended, I think everyone had
a great time.”

Wehling, and Barry Code all for their
low gross scores. Congratulations to day

Participants du 51e tournoi national annuel de golf du GEMRC.
e club de golf de Borden était rempli de membres actifs et retraités du Génie électrique et mécanique royal canadien (GEMRC) lors du 51e tournoi national annuel
de golf du GEMRC, qui s’est tenu le jeudi 7 août dernier.
En effet, 112 participants, en provenance de toutes les régions du Canada, se sont rendus
à Borden pour participer à deux journées de golf des plus agréables. La séance d’accueil de
la veille au soir et les banquets offerts à la fin de chacune des deux journées ont procuré de
nombreuses occasions à tous de renouer avec des collègues et des amis.
« C’est un tournoi, mais essentiellement une grande réunion de fraternisation. On retrouve de vieux amis avec lesquels on a servi, on se serre la main et on se fait des accolades »,
a indiqué le Capt Grenier-Chalifoux, BPR.
Le tournoi a été également l’occasion d’un rapprochement familial, comme c’est le cas
de l’agent de la GRC, Bill Laird, qui est venu jouer au golf avec son père, un membre du
GEMRC à la retraite. « C’est une belle journée. Ça fait du bien de sortir. C’est le quatrième
tournoi auquel je participe avec mon père. Il connaît la plupart des gars, et c’est agréable de
s’asseoir et d’écouter les vieilles histoires de l’époque ».

Les activités sociales vont de pair avec le golf, bien entendu! La première journée était
consacrée à la compétition individuelle, où chacun avait l’occasion de présenter son
meilleur jeu, tandis que la seconde journée était réservée à la compétition par équipe, selon
la formule de la meilleure balle (scramble).
« C’est une belle journée et le temps est merveilleux. L’organisation est bonne et de nombreuses personnes sont présentes. Ça promet pour tout le monde. Une journée de golf est
toujours une excellente journée. J’ai apprécié la séance d’accueil d’hier soir, la nourriture
était excellente et les gens sont venus nombreux. Je pense que tout le monde s’est bien
amusé », a indiqué l’un des participants, le Sgt Donny Oakum.
Félicitations à tous les gagnants de la première journée : Marc Dumoulin et Lyndsey
Novakich, ainsi que Sue Wehling et Barry Code (catégorie senior) pour leur score brut le

The Personnel Selection Office (BPSO)
will be hosting the biannual Second Career
Assistance Network (SCAN) seminar from
the 16th to the 18th September. The seminar
will run from 0900-1200 and 1300-1600
daily at the Terra Theatre (Building P-72, 14
Tobruk Road).
This seminar is designed to assist personnel in making a smooth transition from
the military to the civilian sector. Topics will
include financial planning, general and
medical release procedures, pension benefits, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) services, continuing education, education reimbursement and transition services.
Personnel preparing to leave the
Canadian Armed Forces in the next five
years or being medically released and their
spouses are strongly encouraged to attend.
The dress will be appropriate civilian attire.

ost Traumatic Stress Disorder or
PTSD has been in the news a lot
recently. This is because it is a serious affliction that interferes with living a
normal life. Although anyone who has been
through something traumatic can suffer with
this problem, it is more prevalent in the military community due to the types of situations military members encounter when on
deployment. People who live with PTSD
often suffer from drinking or drug problems,
hopelessness or despair, problems with relationships and problems with employment,
acording to militarymentalhealth.org
Claude Normandeau is a former
Canadian Armed Forces soldier who suffers
from PTSD as a result of situations he
encountered on deployment to Afghanistan.
Together with his father, Robert, Claude is
trying to turn his affliction into something
positive by bringing much needed attention
to PTSD.
“It’s all about PTSD and getting the message out. I want to take the stigma out of
PTSD. Too many guys are still suffering
from PTSD and they are too embarrassed to
go get help,” explains Normandeau. “The
help is out there, you have do a little bit of
work to get it. It’s not the Avon lady, they
aren’t going to come and knock on your
door, you have to go get the help. It’s all
about paying it forward for me so I figured

I’d help some of the guys out. The tournament started small, maybe 20 people gathering and then it went crazy and now we have
over $300,000 in prizes and 128 golfers. It’s
going to be a great day.”
The tournament was played in teams as a
modified scramble with each golfer required
to hit at least four drives in order to even out
the skill levels of the many players. With a
beautiful sunny day, everyone had a fantastic time that benefited a great cause. A huge
thank you to the many generous sponsors
who donated amazing prizes for the tournament.
“I am really excited to be able to golf
today,” commented golfer, Kim McDonald.
“I work in the Base Orderly Room and actually sent all our soldiers on deployment and
watched them come home, so PTSD is
important to me and I am out here for that
reason.”
With the success of this year’s event,
Normandeau plans to have another tournament next year. He has started his own charity called “PTSD or Providing Them
Scholarships and Diplomas” as well as giving a large portion of the proceeds to the
Soldier On charity which endeavors to help
soldiers with illness or injury to overcome
their challenges and continue to live an
active lifestyle.
“Once you find a purpose you just want
to live,” says Normandeau. “This is why we
did this, to get the message out that there’s
life after PTSD.”

une grave maladie qui empêche les personnes
atteintes de mener une vie normale. Bien que n’importe
qui ayant vécu un incident traumatisant puisse souffrir
de cette maladie, elle est plus répandue au sein de la
communauté militaire en raison des types de situation
que les militaires vivent lorsqu’ils sont en déploiement.
Les gens atteints de l’ESPT ont souvent des problèmes
de consommation d’alcool ou de drogue, des problèmes
relationnels et des difficultés d’emploi et ils sont désespérés (MilitaryMentalHealth.org).
Claude Normandeau est un ancien soldat des Forces
armée canadiennes qui souffre de l’ESPT depuis sa participation à un déploiement en Afghanistan. Avec l’aide
de son père Robert, Claude essaie de donner un sens à
sa maladie en faisant connaître davantage l’ESPT.
« L’important, c’est de tourner les projecteurs vers
l’ESPT et de transmettre l’information au public. Je
veux que l’ESPT cesse d’être un stigmate. Un trop
grand nombre de militaires souffrent encore de l’ESPT

faut faire des démarches pour l’obtenir. Personne ne va
sonner à notre porte pour nous l’offrir, il faut aller la
chercher. Je veux payer au suivant et c’est pourquoi je
me suis dit que j’allais aider quelques uns de ces militaires. À l’origine, les participants au tournoi n’étaient
pas nombreux, peut être une vingtaine, puis le vent a
tourné et maintenant, 128 golfeurs participent au
tournoi et nous remettons plus de 300 000 $ en prix. La
journée va être formidable. »
Les équipes de golfeurs ont joué une version modifiée de la meilleure balle par groupe à chaque coup,
chaque joueur devant frapper au moins quatre coups de
départ afin d’égaliser le handicap des nombreux
joueurs. Par une belle journée ensoleillée, tous les participants se sont grandement amusés au profit d’une
grande cause. Nous remercions les nombreux commanditaires généreux qui ont offert des prix remarquables.
« Je suis très heureuse de pouvoir être ici aujourd’hui, » a fait observer Kim McDonald. « Je travaille à
la salle des rapports de la base où j’ai préparé le départ
de tous nos soldats à l’étranger et je les ai vus revenir à
la maison; l’ESPT est une cause importante pour moi et
c’est la raison pour laquelle je suis ici. »
Compte tenu du succès remporté par le tournoi cette
année, Claude Normandeau prévoit en organiser un
autre l’an prochain. Il a fondé sa propre œuvre de charité, « Remettre des bourses d’études et des diplômes aux
gens qui souffrent de l’ESPT » et il donne une grande
partie des fonds recueillis à l’œuvre de charité Sans limites qui aide les soldats malades ou blessés à surmonter
leurs difficultés et à continuer de vivre une vie active.
« Une fois que l’on se fixe un objectif, on veut continuer à vivre, » déclare Claude Normandeau. « C’est la
raison pour laquelle nous avons organisé ce tournoi de
golf, pour que les gens sachent que la vie continue après
l’ESPT. »
