Salem, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting project proposals for Title II funds under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000. Project proposals are due August 30, 2012. The Act provides funds to counties that traditionally have been supported by federal timber payments. Title II of the Act makes funds available for a variety of activities that benefit federally-managed lands and resources such as trail maintenance, road maintenance, watershed restoration, control of noxious weeds, and fire protection.
Salem, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites the public to provide feedback, comments, and or suggestions on the future of Fishermen's Bend Recreation Site. Fishermen's Bend is a very popular campground and day use recreation site located along the North Santiam River, 30 miles east of Salem and 1.5 miles west of Mill City. It is the most developed overnight facility managed by the Salem District, serving approximately 80,000 visitors each year.
Salem, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced today that it will be temporarily closing the South Fork Alsea Access Road (Road No. 14-6E-34.1). The road is approximately 14 miles west of State Highway 99W, and 11 miles southeast of the town of Alsea, Oregon. It will be closed at Milepost 5.78 (Section 36, T.14S., R.7W. W.M.). The closure will begin on October 10, 2012 and last until January 31, 2013. The BLM will remove a failing culvert and it will be constructing a bridge at the Coleman Creek crossing on the South Fork Alsea Access Road at milepost 5.78. The BLM Salem District manages 11 miles of the South Fork Alsea Access Road, with the remainder managed by Benton County. Salem, Ore. - Floyd and Opal Jensen, volunteer campground hosts at the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM), Fishermen's Bend Recreation Site, west of Mill City, have been awarded BLM's national "Making a Difference Lifetime Achievement Award," for contributing more than 17,000 hours of volunteer service at the park
Salem, Ore. - Beginning 6 PM, Monday, August 17, campfires and open source flames will be prohibited at dispersed and established recreation sites administrated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Salem District, in the Alsea Falls Corridor southwest of Corvallis. This includes all day use and overnight sites. Extremely dry conditions, in conjunction with current and expected weather forecasts, have elevated the potential risk of wildfire starts throughout this area.
