Today, the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Lakeview District Office announced $3.5 million to fund seven projects throughout Klamath and Lake counties under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. These investments will restore landscapes and habitat, spur renewable energy development on public lands and create jobs. The $3.5 million is part of the $32.4 million that will fund 60 BLM projects throughout Oregon and Washington. Overall, the BLM will manage $305 million in investments nationwide as part of the recovery plan signed by the President to jumpstart our economy, create or save jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century.
Today, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) hosts the 2014 Seed Conference to celebrate 20 years of public-private partnerships for native plant conservation. The Conference brings together 12 federal agencies to renew a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that continues the work of the Federal Native Plant Conservation Committee of the Plant Conservation Alliance (PCA) and its cooperators in State government, including the Western Governors' Association, and non-government organizations. The PCA is a public-private partnership of governments and non-government organizations that share the same goal of protecting native plants by ensuring that native plant populations and their communities are maintained, enhanced, and restored.
Today, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the public comment period for the draft Stewardship Plan and Environmental Assessment for the recently created Soda Mountain Wilderness Area in southern Oregon. The Soda Mountain Wilderness was created in March 2009 under the Omnibus Public Lands Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-011). The law designated approximately 24,100 acres within the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument as wilderness.
Today, Ed Shepard, the Oregon/Washington Bureau of Land Management (BLM) State Director, announced the selection of Brendan Cain as the District Manager for BLM's office in Burns, Oregon. Cain currently works at the Oregon State Office in Portland, as the Branch Chief for Rangeland Resources, Recreation, and Wilderness.
Today, Ed Shepard, the Oregon/Washington Bureau of Land Management (BLM) State Director, announced the selection of Mr. Miles Brown as the District Manager for the BLM's office in Salem, Oregon. Mr. Brown is currently the BLM's Branch Chief of Rangeland Resource, Recreation, and Wilderness in Portland, Oregon.
