Medford, Ore. Today, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the start the planning process of the newly created Soda Mountain Wilderness Area in southern Oregon. The Soda Mountain Wilderness was created in March 2009 under the Omnibus Public Lands Act of 2009 (Public Law No. 111-011). The law specifically designated approximately 24,100 acres within the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument as wilderness. The scoping phase for this portion of the planning effort will run until May 24, 2010.
Medford, Ore. --Wildflowers are beginning to show their color, vernal pools are buzzing with life, spring time is returning to the southern Oregon landscape, and it is once again time for the annual spring Table Rocks weekend hike series! The Nature Conservancy and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are offering their annual guided, educational walks on the Table Rocks in April and May. This popular hike series promises a spectacular view of the valley, an abundance of wildflowers, and expert interpretation from specialists on the natural and cultural history of the area. Anyone from the community is welcome to sign up. There is no fee to participate, but reservations are required.
Medford, Ore. --The Medford District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is entering the fall prescribed burning season. Prescribed burning is planned to restore native grass species on twenty acres of vernal pool mounded habitat on top of Lower Table Rock in mid-October. The trail head will be closed that day for several hours.

Medford, Ore. -- Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in the 2010 National Public Lands Day. The Grants Pass Resource Area, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is hosting a volunteer workday to enhance the Recreation Section of the Rogue River on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Volunteers, in partnership with the BLM, Josephine County Parks, SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism), and Clean Forest Project will roll up their sleeves and spend the day sprucing up the Rogue River Corridor.
