In the midst of the widespread struggle affecting so many families and individuals in our community, and in spite of the economic uncertainty and funding cuts that have plagued service providers and agencies, at JF&CS we were able to help more than 8,000 clients this year alone, and we are committed to helping even more as we continue our work in the upcoming year. JF&CS holds a unique place among community organizations, for the vast array of services designed to help people through every aspect of their lives, the quality of programs we provide to individuals and families in our community and our unwavering commitment to help every single individual who walks through our door, regardless of their ability to pay. This year marks a very important time in the history of JF&CS, as we celebrate our 75th anniversary of community service. Since our founding in 1937, JF&CS has spent 75 years making a positive impact in our communities and changing the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals and families. Throughout the past 75 years, weвЂ™ve never deviated from our mission to deliver services in the spirit of helping people to help themselves. The young and the old, single parent families, couples, people of different abilities, refugees and immigrants from around the globe, those with challenges both anticipated and unexpected вЂ“ in times of need, theyвЂ™ve all been able to count on JF&CS. ItвЂ™s crucial to note that much of our work throughout the years would not have been possible without the incredible partners who have collaborated with our agency and invested in our work in a multitude of ways. We are fortunate to have ongoing deeply-rooted partnerships with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Jewish Healthcare Foundation and the United Way of Allegheny County. WITHOUT THE DONATED HOURS OF THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO GAVE THEIR TIME IN FY2011-12, WE COULD NOT HAVE ACCOMPLISHED MUCH OF WHAT WE DID. More than 300 volunteers helped our Food Pantry staff sort donations, stock shelves, unload delivery trucks, pack bags and/or deliver groceries to homebound clients, assist clients in shopping and check out and more.
