Dernek yeni bir yapılanma aşamasındaydı, Nevval Hanım yönetim kurulunda yer almak isteyip istemediğimi sorduğunda kurucu üye olmaktan onur duyacağımı söyledim. KALBİNİ PAYLAŞ… Geçirdikleri meme kanseri hastalığı sayesinde tanışıp, kendileri gibi bu hastalıkla mücadele etmiş ve eden kişilere pusula olmayı amaç edinen Seda Kansu ve Elif Yıldırım, “Kalbini Paylaş” sloganıyla meme kanserLi kadınlara ulaşmaya devam ediyor. Bir araya geliş hikayenizi anlatır mısınız? Elif Yıldırım: 31 yaşında kanserle tanıştım. Tedavim sırasında çok sıkıntılar yaşadım çünkü o dönemde çevremde kanseri yaşamış ve yenmiş insan yoktu. Bir yol gösteren de yoktu. Dolayısıyla iyileşir iyileşmez, yaşadıklarımı kimse yaşamasın diye elimden geldiğince insanlara rehberlik etmeye çalıştım. Facebook’ta bir grubum vardı ve Seda’yla orada tanıştık. Seda Kansu: Kanserle ben daha erken tanıştım. Anneannemi rahim kanserinden kaybettik. Ben çocuktum elbette hastalığın çok bilinmediği o dönemlerde. Hiç tedavi olmamasına rağmen anneannem üç yıl yaşamıştı. Sonrasında kendim kansere yakalanana kadar hiç bu hastalık aklıma gelmedi. Kanser teşhisinden sonra benim yolculuğum başladı. Şanslı biriydim, onkoloğum Pınar Saip gerçekten harika biri. Bana hayatımda yeni bir pencere açılacağını ve bu yolculukta yalnız olmadığımı söylediğinde kendimi çok iyi hissettim. Doktor- hasta iletişimi çok önemli. Çok soru soran biriyim sürekli konuşuyorduk. Bir gün bana “ Sizin gibi insanlara çok ihtiyaç var” dedi. Ne yapabilirimi SHARE YOUR HEART Having met “thanks to” breast cancer that they have both been suffering from and aspiring to be a compass for those like themselves who have struggled, or have still been struggling, against this illness, Seda Kansu and Elif Yıldırım continue to reach women with breast cancer with their slogan “Share Your Heart”. Can you tell us your story of coming together? Elif Yıldırım: I got introduced to cancer when I was 31. I lived through many problems during treatment, as at that time there were no people around me who had experienced and beaten cancer. Nor was there anybody who could guide me. Therefore as soon as I overcame the illness, I tried to be a guide to people as much as possible so that they would not live through what I had. I set up a group in Facebook and I met Seda there. Seda Kansu: I got introduced to cancer earlier. We lost my grandma due to ovarian cancer. I was a child back then of course, and those were times when the illness was not known much. My grandma managed to live for three more years even though she had not received any treatment whatsoever. Afterward that incident, cancer had not come to my mind at all until I myself had it. After the diagnosis my journey began. I was lucky, for my oncologist Pınar Saip is a really wonderful person. I felt very good when she said to me that a new window will open in my life and that I am not alone in this journey. Doctor-patient communication is very important. I am a person who asks a lot of questions and we kept talking to one another. One day she said: “There is a great need for people like you.” When I asked what I could do, she advised me to join an NGO and do some research in this field. I ran into Pembe Hanım Association while doing research. I had known Nevval Hanım anyways; yet I learned later that she also was a cancer patient. The association was undergoing a new structuring at the time, and when Nevval Hanım asked me if I would like to join REFLEX MAGAZIN / Mayıs May 2014 Yastık Projesi nedir, anlatır mısınız? S.K: Geçen sene kanser hastaları kongresi için Madrid’e gitmiştim. Kongrede sivil toplum kuruluşlarının standlarını gezerken ben bir stantta bu yastıkları gördüm. Satıldığını düşündüğüm için fiyatını sordum ilk olarak. Parayla verilmediğini, meme kanseri olanlara hediye ettiklerini söylediler. O dernekle hemen tanıştım. Yaklaşık 12 yıl evvel Amerika’da bir onkoloji bölümü yönetici hemşiresinin kurduğu bir platform olduğunu öğrendim. Bu yastıklar kol altına konduğu zaman sağladığı eğimle lenf sıvılarının daha iyi dolaşmasını sağlıyor. Danimarka, İsrail, İtalya, Belçika, Hollanda, Fransa tüm bu ülkelerde var. Türkiye’de biz de bunu yapmak istediğimizi belirtim, derneğimizi anlattık. Şöyle bir şartları vardı sadece. Hiçbir şekilde para işlemeyecek. Üretiminden nihai kanser hastası tüketiciye ulaşana kadar hiçbir aşamasında parasal hiçbir şey söz konusu olmayacak. Tamamen ücretsiz. Türkiye için resmi üyeleri olduk ve hemen başladık. Meme kanseri hastaları biliyor mu peki bu projeyi? S. K: Türkiye’de pek bilinmiyor. Bu meme kanseri hastaları için bir yastık, ilk etapta da lenfleri alınmış olanlar için. Çünkü lenflerin alınmış olması, oradaki lenf suyunun akışını azaltıyor ve o da biraz rahatsızlık yapıyor. Bu tedavi amaçlı bir şey değil. Evde, iş yerinde, televizyon izlerken ya da bilgisayar başında kolunuzun altına koyuyorsunuz. Çok pratik de bir kullanımı var. Sloganımız da Kalbini Paylaş… Bu yastıklar nasıl yapılıyor? E.Y: Çalıştığım yere yakın Nil Örme Kumaş Firması’nın ana ofisi bulunuyor. Seda bana bahsettiğinde ben de hemen Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Veli Özersoy’dan randevu talep ettim. Veli Bey beni hemen kabul etti ve proje için destek olacağını, ellerinden geleni yapacaklarını tereddütsüz söyledi. Ertesi gün depomuza kumaşlar geldi. Şu anda çalıştığım firmanın sahibi Ernur Hanım da kesimini yaptırdı. Dün imalat müdürümüz inisiyatifini kullanarak tanıdığı atölyeler görüştü ve dikime başlandı. Neye ihtiyaç var peki? S.K: Özellikle elyaf ve kargo firmalarına ihtiyacımız var. Çünkü İster Ağrı, ister Pendik’te olsun, bu yastığı isteyen kişiye tamamen ücretsiz ulaştırmamız gerekiyor. Yani bir meme kanseri hastası bu kalp yastıklardan talep ettiğinde ücretsiz olarak evine kadar ulaştırmakla sorumluyuz. Dolayısıyla da bu sosyal sorumluluk projesine katkı sağlamak isteyenler olursa bize ulaşmalarını rica ediyoruz. En çok da elyaf ve kargo şirketine ihtiyacımız oluyor. İlk etapta 5000 adeti tamamlamak istiyoruz, bunun sebebi de şu; ilk 2000 tanesini hemen Türk Tıbbi Onkoloji Derneği’ne hibe edeceğiz. Onlar da Türkiye’deki devlet onkoloji hastanelerine gönderecekler ve meme kanseri tüm kadınlara hediye edecekler. Can you tell us about it? S.K.: Last year I went to Madrid for the cancer patients’ congress. While walking around the NGOs’ booths in the congress I saw these pillows in a booth. I first asked the price as I thought they were being sold. They said that they did not sell them and just gave them as a present to breast cancer patients. I immediately got to know that association and learned that it was a platform that was founded around 12 years ago by an executive nurse working at an oncology department in the States. These pillows facilitate the easier flow of lymphatic fluids when placed under the arm. They can be found in Denmark, Israel, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. I told them that our association would like to bring these pillows to Turkey as well and informed them about our association. They had only one reservation: There will be no money involved. There will be nothing financial involved throughout all the stages from its production till its ultimate reach to a cancer patient-consumer. It will be totally free of charge. We became their official member in Turkey and started with the project immediately. Do breast cancer patients know about this project? S.K.: It is not known much in Turkey. This pillow is for breast cancer patients – at the first stage for those whose lymphs have been removed, becase when they are removed, the lymphatic fluids in that area begin to flow in fewer amounts and this disturbs the patient a bit. The pillow is not used for treatment purposes. You place it under your arm while at home, workplace, watching TV or working on the computer. And it has a very practical use. And our slogan is “Share Your Heart”… How are these pillows manufactured? E.Y.: The main office of Nil Knit Fabric Firm is close to where I work. When Seda told me about it, I immediately demanded an appointment from the executive board member Veli Özersoy. Veli Bey accepted my demand right away and told me without hesitation that they will support and do their best for our project. The next day fabrics arrived at our storage room. Ernur Hanım, the owner of the firm that I have been working for at the moment, had their cutting done. Yesterday our manufacture manager took the initiative to meet with people from workshops that he personally knew and the sewing process began. What is needed then? S.K.: We especially need the services of fiber and delivery firms, as we need to deliver this heart-shaped pillow free of charge to those who want it, be them in Ağrı or in Pendik. This means that when a breast cancer patient demands this pillow, we are responsible to deliver it to her house free of charge. Therefore we request from those who want to contribute to this social responsibility project to reach us. Like we’ve just mentioned, we mostly need the services of fiber and delivery firms. We aspire to complete 5000 pillows at the first stage, and the reason is that we will be granting the first 2000 pillows to the Turkish Medical Oncology Association. And they will be sending them to the state oncology hospitals around Turkey and will be giving them to all women with breast cancer as a present.
