! ! ! FONDAZIONE PER LE SCIENZE RELIGIOSE GIOVANNI XXIII, BOLOGNA Historicizing Ecumenism ! ! The Christian desire for Unity in the Churches, 19th - 20th Century ! ! ! ! An International Conference held at the Monastery of Bose, Italy ! November 26-28, 2014 ! ! ! ! ! ! CALL FOR PAPERS ! ! The John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies in Bologna is launching a international research program on the history of the Christian desire for unity in the last two centuries. The project will bring together leading researchers, historians and theologians whose research focuses on the search for Christian unity and its history. This conference is open to scholars who may offer on the basis of actual research on archives and printed sources suggestions and samples of the criteria that will guide the program: papers on sources, leaders, ideas, theologies, dialogues and the life of the faithful are welcome. A global history of the quest for unity needs a large scope of papers regarding the relations between the events concerning the area of politics and the development of the churches’ mentality. Also studies approaching the biographies of the spiritual inspirers of the ecumenical movement as well as authorities and the ecclesiastical institutions will be discussed. ! ! ! contact: [email protected] Scholars are therefore warmly invited to join the Conference and/or to submit before September 15 papers for the following sections: ! ! 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) ! ! Sources for a history of ecumenism: archives, printed sources and literature about bodies, leaders and dialogues; Centers of elaboration of theological and spiritual contents: groups, monasteries, schools, theological dialogues, joint working groups, series, journals; Spiritual experiences and conflict: prayer, intercommunion, persecution; Biographical approach on pioneers, fathers, martyrs and engineers of unity; Long term issues of the quest for Christian unity: exegesis, patristic, canon law, synodality, missiology, ethics, historical research, reception, ressourcement. Papers’ proposal of 400 words, in one of the languages of the conference, with an exact reference to the sources used and no more than one page of academic CV, should be sent to [email protected] by September 15. The final response is due before October 1. Presentations shall lat 20 minutes; longer contributions may circulate in written form. Fees The Conference will be held in the Monastery of Bose, close to the airports of Malpensa and Turin (www.monasterodibose.it – Click here for the map) The Conference will start on Wednesday, November 26, at 15.00, for the opening lecture, and the final discussion will take place on Friday, November 28. Participants will depart after lunch. The working languages of the conference will be English, French, Italian and German. Registration fee of 200 euros includes accommodation and meals.
