Introduction
このハンドブックは、年々増加する外国人教員や留学
生に対して施設職員が対応していく上で、役立つ会
話事例や国際化ゆえに発生するトラブルへの対応事
例を九州ブロックの施設部技術英語能力習得プロ
ジェクトでまとめました。
ファーストステップとして、簡単な会話事例で対応に慣
れ、セカンドステップとして会話編を参考に英会話での
対応ができる様になって頂ければと思います。
また、対応事例を参考に、今後の業務の参考に活用
していただければと思います。

お湯が出ないのですが。

エアコンが壊れています。
The air-conditioner isn't work.
～便利な表現 do not work ～
エアコンなどが調子が悪い、不具合がある、と言いたいときに使うと便利なのが do not work です。
work という単語には、正常に［正しく・目的通りに］機能［動作・稼働］する、という意味があります。
”＜A machine＞ doesn’t work.” というように、対象物を主語として使います。

イスラム教徒の方は、礼拝（サラート）を１日５回行う必要があります。
祈る場所は、基本的にはどこでもよいのですが、極力集団で祈りを捧げる場所に集まって、お祈りをする必要があります。

イスラム教徒の学生は、食べられるものが制限されている。
<+α解説>
ハラルとは主にイスラム法で食べられる物のことを表す。例えば、イスラム法のもとでは豚肉を食べることは禁じられているが、そ
れ以外の肉でも殺し方が正規の手順に従ったものでなければ食べることはできない。そのため、イスラム教徒は単純に材料表
示だけでは食べることができるか判断ができないためハラルの表示があるものを確認して食べることになる。なお日本ではハラル
を知らない人も多い。イスラム教徒はイスラム教で食べられる物を表すハラルの表示を確認して食事をする事例。

長期にわたって部屋を空ける時に、ブレーカーを切ってしまい警報器が作動しない。

出身国によっては、長期間部屋を空ける場合、ブレーカを落として電気代がかからない様にするのが当たり前の場合
があります。
宿舎の設備によっては、防火設備が機能停止したり、電化製品が故障する原因になる事があります。

電化製品はそのまま使用出来ますが、故障するかもし
れませんので、変圧器の使用をお勧めします。

<トラブルの背景>
国によって、プラグの形状・電圧・周波数は異なる。日本で一般的に使用されているのはAタイプのプラグなので、形状
が合わない場合は電源変換プラグを使う必要がある。また、海外で供給される電気は110V～250Vと日本より電圧が
高い傾向にあるので、外国製の製品を国内で使用する際は、電源変換プラグまたは変圧器が必要な場合がある。

プラグの形状は右図のようなタイプがあ
り、日本と同じタイプAはタイ、アメリカ、
キューバなどである。

§２．Writing e-mails
英文メールの形式
英文のメールには、はじめに頭語、終わりに結語を書くルールがあります。どのような言葉を使うかは、宛先や、プライベー
ト、ビジネス、フォーマルなどのシーンによって変わってきます。頭語と結語の間が本文となりますが、用件が伝わるように、
丁寧な表現で書くことが大切です。
