They will then go to the British Hills souvenir shop, choose a postcard, write a message and post it to their family or friends at home. 絵葉書に英文でメッセージを書いて、実際に家族や友達にブリティッシュヒルズから絵葉書を送ります。 このレッスンでは、海外から日本、もしくは日本から海外へ郵便を出す時に必要な、英語での名前と宛 先の正しい書き方、また、絵葉書を買う時の基本的なフレーズを学びます。 Describing People Using a mix of teacher and student-led activities, students will practice useful vocabulary and phrases for describing people. This may include descriptions of physical appearance (e.g. height, size, eye or hair colour) or emotional state (e.g. happy, sleepy, hungry). 容姿（身長・大きさ・髪の色・目の色）や、感情（happy, sleepy, hungry）など、人を描写するために 必要な表現を学びます。表現方法を理解し、情報を伝える力・説明の仕方を学びます。 Describing Things Students will practice the use of a variety of adjectives and phrases to develop their descriptive skills. Content is focused on things, as opposed to people, and students will first study a wide range of descriptive English – they will then be able to apply this study through various communicative activities. 形容詞を中心とした表現を練習して、物の描写力のスキルを上げるクラスです。様々な描写をするため に役立つスキルを学び、その後、実際にやり取りを行なってみることにより、どれだけその「物」を説 明できているかが試されます。 English Language in Film In this class, students hone their listening and comprehension skills by watching key scenes from films and answering questions on what they have seen and heard. 映画の各シーンを題材にし、聞き取りのスキルアップを目指します。映画の要所となるシーンを集中的 に見て、講師が内容について問題を出し、聞き取れているか、シチュエーションが理解できているかを 確認します。 British Hills English Through Monopoly Monopoly is a popular board game in the UK, where the aim is to purchase different parts of London to create a “Monopoly”. Students will learn some basic English words and phrases, then play the game in groups. At a general level the game develops English for larger numbers and financial transactions (e.g. “buy”, “sell”, “pay”, “owe”, “tax”). As the game progresses, advanced students may also be able to practice negotiation and discussion skills as they begin to trade and bargain with one another. To ensure students fully experience the game, this lesson can be extended across two periods. モノポリーは英国で人気のボードゲームです。「Monopoly」は英語で「独占すること」を意味します。 主な内容は、ロンドンの資産を購入し、どれだけ自分の資産を増やせるか、競い合うゲームです。ゲー ムで使われる言葉とフレーズを練習してから、グループに分かれ、ゲームを行います。中級レベルの生 徒は、ゲームを通して経済に関する言葉や数の単位を学べます。また、上級レベルの生徒であれば、交 渉事や議論に必要となるスキルも学べます。 Fun with Language This class develops students’ motivation and confidence in English through a variety of fun, communicative activities. It encourages students to improve their skills while maintaining a light, fun atmosphere in the classroom. このクラスでは、楽しいゲームやアクティビティを通して、生徒の英語に対する緊張感を取り除き、モ チベーションを上げることを狙いとしています。楽しい雰囲気の中で徐々に英語に慣れ親しむうちに、 自然に英語を聞いたり話したりしていることに気づくでしょう。 Fun with Directions This lesson teaches students how to give and understand directions in English, using a combination of paper-based study and physical activities. Weather permitting, students will finish the class with a directions-based scavenger hunt around the British Hills village. 方角や方向を伝えるための、正確な表現を身につけます。道を尋ねる人、教える人になり、実際に動い てみることで、体験的に使い方を学びます。天候にもよりますが、場合によっては、教室の外に出てレ ッスンを行うこともあります。 Fun with Numbers This class practices and introduces a variety of numbers and units in the English language. Students will learn the proper syntax for both very small and very large amounts, along with other numerical forms such as years, times and percentages. このクラスでは、数字の単位について学習します。普段使い慣れていない最大・最小の単位の表現や言 い回しを学びます。また、時間・年・パーセント等の正しい使い方も身に付けます。 British Hills Homestay English / Homestay English Global (High school level) Through a series of videos, students will follow the story of Yuki, a Japanese high school student who is travelling overseas on a homestay. Students will learn about common homestay situations and practice a variety of language points that will help them during their homestay. Appropriate introductions, conversational techniques, differences in international school culture, and problem solving will be covered during the class. Ultimately students will leave with a positive attitude about homestays and their ability to survive one. 日本人高校生の由紀が海外にホームステイする話を通して、実際にホームステイする時に役立つ表現な どを学びます。自己紹介、会話のコツ、海外の学校との違い、問題解決など、ホームステイの事前学習 におすすめです。 Listening Skills This lesson uses a variety of listening activities, including individual, pair and group work, to help students to hone their English comprehension abilities. Through a series of focused listening exercises, students will come to understand these news reports and the role the issues they raise may have on their own lives. Teaching and activities are focused on difficult sounds for Japanese speakers (e.g. l/r, s/th), and on speaking clearly for others’ understanding. 聴き取りを基本として特に発音の難しい単語を学びます。特に日本人にとって難しい発音(l/r, s/th)を練 習します。発音に特化したクラスですが、初級から上級までの設定が可能です。 British Hills Speech Skills In this lesson students are drilled in key skills for giving speeches – posture, gestures, facial expressions, voice projection and more – leading into a speech contest where they will be given scores and comments by native English speakers. This is recommended as their first class at BH, as the combination of relevant English and fun activities will help to motivate them and develop confidence for their stay. 英語での生活に自信を持たせ、やる気をアップさせるようなクラスです。ブリティッシュヒルズでの滞 在中に役立つフレーズや単語を学べる、楽しい活動をご用意しております。滞在を楽しんで頂くため、 最初のクラスとして是非お勧めしたいクラスです。 Talk About Yourself This class teaches students useful vocabulary and phrases for introducing and talking about themselves, as well as question forms that can be used when meeting other people. These will be invaluable skills when encountering people from other countries or travelling abroad. このクラスでは、自己紹介に役立つ言葉やフレーズなど、相手のことをもっとよく知るための質問等を 学びます。将来海外に行った時や、外国の方と話す場面でも、このクラスで得た知識はきっと役に立つ スキルとなることでしょう。 Travel Abroad: Getting There This class helps students to plan a trip to another country. Through a variety of worksheets, role plays and communicative activities they will be encouraged to think about what is involved in going abroad, and given the opportunity to practice relevant English conversation for passing through Immigration. 海外旅行の計画にもとづいて準備をします。入国審査に必要な英語表現を学び、いくつかのワークシー トや、実際の場面を想定したロールプレイやコミュニケーションの取り方を学び、 「外国へ行くこと」に 対する期待を膨らませます。 British Hills Travel Abroad: Taking a Flight This lesson is focused on useful English for boarding and taking an aeroplane. Students will practice the Check-In and boarding process, and take part in an extended role play activity. When travelling overseas this will be students’ first opportunity to interact with a foreigner; this class gives them the skills to handle that encounter smoothly. 飛行機に乗る際に役に立つ英語表現を中心に学びます。実際に搭乗手続きをし、飛行機に乗るまでの流 れをロールプレイで学習します。海外に行く際、一般的に外国人との初めての出会いは飛行機の中でし ょう。このクラスでは、その出会いにスムーズに対応できるスキルを学びます。 Travel Abroad: Getting Around This lesson teaches useful vocabulary and phrases for travelling around a foreign country. Students will study material related to hotels, restaurants, transport and more, through a variety of paper-based and communicative activities. 海外旅行で、現地の観光地などを訪れるために必要な英語表現を身につけることがこのクラスの狙いで す。ホテル・レストラン・目的地などに辿り着くために必要な、様々な交通手段を利用する場面を想定 したやり取りや、ワークシートで役立つ言葉やフレーズを学習します。 Discussion Skills The focus of this class is to develop students’ ability to express their thoughts in English. They will study useful phrases and vocabulary for discussing their opinions, and their reasons for holding them. This will then lead into group-based discussion activities where they compare viewpoints with one another and debate their relative merits. To participate in this class, students must be able to form basic sentences unaided. For additional training and deeper discussion, this lesson can be extended across two periods. このクラスでは、自分の考えを論理的に相手に伝える力を養います。議論するために必要な単語やフレ ーズを学び、主張する内容の明確な説明の仕方を学びます。用意したテーマについて、グループごとに 意見をまとめ、お互いの意見のメリット・デメリットについて他グループと議論を戦わせます。講師の サポートなしで英文がつくれることが受講の必須レベルです。より深く掘り下げた議論やスキル強化の ご要望があれば、2 クラス受講も可能です。 British Hills Drama (From High School) This new class will encourage creativity within the students and also develop their storytelling and performance skills. This class may be extended across two periods. In this case, students will create an original drama; teacher will assist the students if required, by giving them ideas for settings, storylines etc. If this class is taken in one period, students will perform a prepared drama. All performances can be evaluated by a British Hills teacher. Cheerful and active students may be more appropriate for this class. 演劇をするためのウォームアップ、感情表現の方法などを習得いただいたあと、グループに分かれて、 数分の劇を演じます。2 クラス受講される場合には、独自でシナリオを作っていただき、発表することが できます。必要に応じて、すでに用意されたあらすじを使って、講師が手助けしながら進めていくこと もできます。積極的な学生や、演劇に興味のある学生さんにおすすめです。 Numbers and Figures (From High School) <New> Through games and fun activities, students will learn how to say large numbers in English, from hundreds and thousands to millions and billions, as well as fractions such as “half” and “three fifths”. They will also learn useful mathematical terms, such as “plus”, “divided by” and “equals”. このレッスンでは、ゲームや楽しめる活動を通じて、英語で千、万、１００万、億など大きい数字の言 い表し方を学びます。また、分数の言い表し方や、四則計算などの日常でも役に立つような数学用語な ども学んでいきます。 British Hills Group Presentation Skills (2 classes) (From High School) <New> An exciting two part lesson programme in which groups of 4 – 6 students, will prepare a PowerPoint presentation and will learn how to deliver an effective presentation to audience . In the first lesson, our teachers will check and correct PowerPoint drafts, as well as offering advice and techniques helping to improve public speaking. In the second lesson, all groups will give their presentation, with our teacher providing constructive comments after each one. Your groups will thrive on the independence given to them and will have a huge impact in bringing about more confidence in English public speaking. Note: -Groups must organise a draft PowerPoint presentation before they arrive at British Hills. -We recommend that groups choose a topic they all enjoy. -You can bring and use your own laptops (one laptop per group). Students will study the key cities, attractions and food that have made the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada famous, and discuss which of these they would most like to see and try. Later in the class, students will study appropriate language for making travel plans, and with their peers, they will plan their own travel itinerary for a trip to the UK before presenting this to the class. We will endeavour to assign a teacher from the UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada to each class. 英国、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、カナダ各国の主要都市、観光スポット、食事などを通して、 それぞれの国の知識を深めます。後半では、実際にその国へ旅行するための計画を立てます。(可能な限 り出身講師が担当いたしますので、ご相談ください) British Hills Culture & Manners This class teaches students to understand and appreciate the different cultures and social manners that exist around the world. Through a mix of teacher and student-focused activities they will think and learn about the concept of culture and examples, as well as different greetings and expressions from other countries. 挨拶の仕方など、日本と海外の文化・慣習の違いを学ぶことを通して異文化を感じることのできるクラ スです。世界の文化や考え方の違いからどのような問題があるのかを認識して知識を広げます。 World of Food Students will study useful vocabulary and phrases for discussing food such as smell and flavour. Activities include a smell test and a visual comprehension activity using a famous UK chef. 食べ物の匂いや味などに関してよく使われる単語や英語表現を学習します。嗅覚テストをしたり、英国 の有名シェフの料理番組を取り上げます。五感を使って世界の食べ物に関する知識を身に付けるクラス です。 World of Music This lesson is intended to help students explore the different genres of music in the world. Through a combination of communication and listening activities, they will learn about the rich variety of musical styles and instruments that exist, along with useful English vocabulary and phrases to describe them. 世界の様々なジャンルの音楽を紹介します。音楽に関する表現・フレーズ・楽器について学びます。コ ミュニケーションのやりとりや、リスニングを組み合わせた、音楽を楽しく学ぶクラスです。 World of Sports In this lesson students will be introduced to many different sports from around the world. They will practice useful English phrases for discussing sports with others, and also practice natural English vocabulary for watching and enjoying events with friends (this class does not involve actual sports practice). 世界の様々なスポーツを紹介します。実際にスポーツ観戦した場合、友人と議論を戦わせる時に使うお 決まりのフレーズを学ぶなど、よりスポーツ観戦を楽しめるようになるクラスです。スポーツ好きの方 にお勧めのクラスです。 （実際にスポーツは行いません） British Weddings (From High School) In this class students learn about the traditions and customs of British Weddings. The first part of the lesson is taught in the classroom, using a combination of paper-based worksheets and audiovisual materials. In the latter half of the class students move to the British Hills Chapel, where they can experience a traditional British Wedding through an extended role play activity. イギリスで行われている、伝統的な結婚式の流れや習慣について学びます。まず、ワークシートやビデ オを見ながら、結婚式に関する知識を深めます。後半、生徒は花嫁・花婿・参列者となり、実際にチャ ペルで模擬結婚式を行います。 British Hills Shakespeare (From High School) This class introduces students to Shakespeare through a variety of interesting and fun activities. They will study one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, they will perform the own scene in a small group. They will also make and use their own quill for traditional calligraphy. They can then keep their quill as a souvenir of their experience. 英国の代表的な作家、シェークスピアにまつわる、様々な楽しいアクティビティーをご用意しておりま す。作品について内容を学んだあと、実際に演じてみます。また、実際その時代に使用されていた、オ リジナルの羽根ペンを作り、文字を書いてみて、その時代を体感します。羽根ペンはそのままお持ち帰 り頂けます。 British Hills 3-D Pictures In this lesson students will produce a framed 3-D picture of a character from the stories of Beatrix Potter. Following instructions from a British Hills teacher, they will cut and assemble a 3 dimensional image using a layering process and specialised glue and other equipment. Finally they will make a simple frame to display their creation. ピーターラビットで有名なビアトリクス・ポターの絵をもとに、4 枚の絵を切り貼りし、立体的に浮き上 がってみえる 3Dアートを制作します。講師の説明に従って、特殊なのりと道具を用いて作業します。出 来上がった作品は額装し、壁に飾れるように仕上げます。完成した作品はお持ち帰り頂けます。 Calligraphy Using a special calligraphy pen, students will learn the skill of writing traditional English lettering. They will practice by writing examples of their name or some short messages, decorative designs and borders. Finally, students can design and make a card using their new skills; they can keep their pen as a souvenir, and to continue to develop their talents at home. 英国の伝統的な美しいアルファベットを書く技術を学びます。カリグラフィー用の特殊なペンを使用し、 自分の名前や英文・装飾模様を練習した後、それまで習った技術を生かし、オリジナルデザインのグリ ーティングカードを作ります。ペンはそのままお持ち帰り頂けるので、お家に帰ってからも、引き続き 新たな趣味として楽しんで頂くことも可能です。 Gel Candle-making In this lesson students will be able to make a special “gel” candle; using different coloured sand, sea shells, glass figurines and other resources, they will design their own small scene in a glass before filling it with clear gel wax to set. カラーサンド・貝・ガラス細工等を使ってホルダーグラスの中で好みのデザインを作るレッスンです。 デザインが出来たらジェル形のロウで固めます。完成した作品はお持ち帰り頂けます。 Cooking Students will make traditional British scones, or shortbread, by following instructions from a native English-speaking teacher. After washing up the students may relax and drink English fruit tea while they wait for their scones to be baked. 講師の英語での説明を受けながら、英国の伝統的なお菓子であるスコーンやショートブレッドを作りま す。道具を片付けたあとは、フルーティーな紅茶を飲みながら、焼き上がるまでラウンジでお待ち頂き ます。いい匂いがしてきたら出来上がりです。焼き上がったお菓子はお土産としてどうぞ。エプロンは こちらでご用意しております。 British Hills Embossed Cards In this lesson students can design and make their own decorative pictures or cards using special embossing powder and tools. Various colours and materials are available, and the finished product will be a unique reminder of their visit. 特殊なパウダーや道具を使って、絵や文字が浮き出す加工をされたカードを作ります。様々な色や材料 を揃えておりますので、生徒は自分が好きなようにデザインしたカードを作ります。出来上がったカー ドは思い出の作品としてお持ち帰り頂けます。 Fabric Painting Based on their own original design, students will use special paints and techniques to decorate a plain eco-bag. They can then keep this bag as a souvenir of their time at British Hills. The bag, paint and all other equipment is supplied. 講師より説明を聞いてから、布のエコバッグに、専用の絵の具でオリジナルのデザインを描きます。出 来上がった作品はお土産としてお持ち帰り頂けます。バッグ・絵の具等はご用意しております。 Mosaic Art In this lesson students will use special tiles to form a mosaic picture. They will break the tiles themselves, using the pieces to form a design of their choice in the traditional mosaic art style which can then be taken home. 伝統的なモザイク画を製作します。専用のタイルを割り、その破片でお好きなデザインのモザイク画を 完成させます。出来上がった作品はお持ち帰り頂けます。 Pop-Up Cards This class will teach students how to make a card that “pops up” from the paper. After some basic instruction, students can design and make their own pop-up card and can then write a message to the recipient in English. In this class students will learn about the sources of these oils, and how they are believed to relieve various ailments. Instructions and drills are taught in English first, and then the students have a chance to play the games they have learned. Skis, boots and poles are supplied, but students must provide their own skiwear, hat and gloves. Snow boots are recommended for walking outside. The class is held in the British Hills Gym, which is equipped with a dance studio mirror to aid teaching. Comfortable clothing and sports shoes are required. The total course is around 4km long. A British Hills teacher will start the class by giving some basic instructions and safety information, then shadow students as they follow the map. This is a skill-focused lesson using the natural surroundings of British Hills, and students are encouraged to explore the area by themselves. Students are given interview sheets to use with the teacher while exploring the nature trail, so that they can practice their English conversation skills while walking. While there is a greater communication element, this means that students have less need to use the map to orient themselves; schools who are more interested in the orienteering activity should not choose the interview option. Students start with “Theatre Sports” – various activities to improve their confidence and creativity when performing in front of others. Then, as their English ability grows, they prepare and perform a short sketch. Performing Arts is adaptable for all levels but enthusiasm MUST be high. Shy students don’t enjoy this class 舞台劇での練習で行われている身体・声・想像力を存分に取り入れたコミュニケーションを人前で上演 することにより、英語を学びながら自信を広げることがこのクラスの主な目的です。英語力がついたの ち、寸劇作りにチャレンジし、実際に上演します。全てのレベルに対応可能ですが、生徒の参加意欲・ 積極性が強く求められます。 British Hills Pub Games ＊平日 9：00～と 16：00～にて開講可 Students will be introduced to several traditional British pub games including darts, dominoes and carpet bowls. Depending on numbers, they will be split into several groups and have a chance to sample all of the activities in 90 minutes. 伝統的にパブで行われるゲームである、ダーツやカーペットボウリングなどのゲームを紹介します。グ ループに分かれ、いくつかのゲームをローテーションで全て体験して頂くことができます。 Pub Quiz Party ＊夕食後のみ開講可 In teams, students will compete against each other to answer questions about sports, entertainment, general knowledge and more. The winning team is awarded prizes. This lesson can be taken as an evening activity. チームに分かれ、スポーツや一般知識・エンターテインメントなどのクイズに答え、正答数を競います。 勝ったチームには賞品がもらえます。夕食後のクラスとしてお勧めです。 Science Challenge The aim of this lesson is to provoke team-based strategy discussion in English, by making students think logically to solve a science-based puzzle. They will be split into groups, where they must design a vessel which can protect an egg when dropped from a great height. They will select materials on a budget while communicating with the teacher in English, design and build their vessel then finish the class with an actual drop test. グループに分かれ、与えられた科学に関する課題を相談しながら解決の糸口を見つけるクラスです。具 体的には、生卵を入れ、高い所から落としても割れないような容器を各グループでデザインします。レ ッスン内で設定された、仮想予算と用意された材料には限りがあり、講師に相談しながら材料を選択し ます。最後に、実際に作った容器を落として、解決法が合っているか検証します。 British Hills Snow Shoeing スキーウエアー・帽子・手袋等を必ずご用意ください ＊詳細別紙 Like cross country skiing, this class offers the opportunity to explore the beautiful winter scenes of the British Hills Nature Trail. After some basic instruction, the teacher will accompany the students around the woodland course. Snow shoes and boots are supplied, but students must provide their own skiwear, hat and gloves. Led by a native English teacher, this class will help them gain confidence and co-operation skills. 講師のリードにより、課された課題について、互いに協力しながら身体や頭を使って競い合います。生 徒の年齢や英語レベルに応じ、様々な課題をご用意しております。このクラスでは、チームメイトと協 力し合うことの大切さ、また、課題を達成したことにより、生徒個々の自信に繋げることを目的として います。 British Hills Chess (From High School) In this class, students will be introduced to the traditional European game of chess. After studying some vocabulary, rules and strategy, the students have a chance to play the game with their classmates. ヨーロッパの伝統的なゲーム、チェスをご紹介します。チェスに関する単語・ルールと攻略法を学んだ 後、実際にクラスメイトとゲームを楽しみながら学びます。 Snooker (From High School) Snooker was invented by a British man living in India, and is still popular today. It also formed the basis for more modern versions like pool and billiards. The British Hills snooker tables were made by Thurston, a world famous UK manufacturer, and are three of only ten in the whole country. In this class, students will learn the basic rules and techniques of the game and have the chance to play a game together. スヌーカーは、もともとはかつてインドに駐留していた英国海軍の間で発明されたゲームです。日本で はまだまだ知名度は低いですが、英国ではビリヤードを凌ぐ人気を誇るキュースポーツです。サースト ン製のスヌーカーテーブルは日本にたった 10 台しかなく、そのうち 3 台がここブリティッシュヒルズに あるものです。基本的なルールと技術を学んだあと、ゲームを楽しみながら学べるクラスです。
