セインツは 25 周年をむかえました
聖学院アトランタ国際学校（セインツ）は、二学期在籍数が百名となり、全ての学年が９名から１４名と
理想的なサイズになりました。男の子の数が増えて、男女比が逆転し、大変にぎやかな毎日です。さて、９
月４日には、２５周年創立記念礼拝を行いました。２５年間の思い出の写真スライドショーからはじまり、
６年生が日英バイリンガルで“セインツヒストリー”のナレーションを担当し、高度なバイリンガル能力を
披露してくれました。
ガラテヤの信徒への手紙の「ユダヤ人もギリシャ人もない、奴隷も自由人もない・・」というパウロの教
えは、リンカーン大統領やキング牧師を通して、セインツの子どもにまで二千年を超えて一直線上につなが
っているという校長のメッセージを通して、全ての人間が平等に平和に暮らせるよう、平和を作り出す国際
人に育ってほしいというセインツのミッションが語られました。礼拝の最後には、幼稚部小学部の子ども達
全員で元気いっぱいに「しゅわれを愛す」を日本語と英語で歌いました。
礼拝後、かつてお嬢様二人がセインツに在籍なさり、さらに今は在校生のご祖母でいらっしゃる中藤博恵
氏からお祝辞をいただきました。２５年前、アトランタに日本からやってきた教育者達、そしてその家族た
ちが全員で力を合わせて苦労を重ねながらアメリカに学校を作った創立当初の様子を語ってくださり、心
を打たれました。
その後、
「日米関係」と題してアトランタ総領事須永氏による特別講義が５・６年を対象に行われました。
戦争を乗り越え、ベストフレンドとなった日本とアメリカだが、友情を育むためには常に努力が必要なこと
を語られました。児童達に、将来の日米の懸け橋となるよう自分が何をなすべきかを考えてほしいというお
言葉をいただき、一人一人の心に響く感銘深いメッセージでした。
大きなバースデーケーキがステージに登場し、みんなでハッピーバースデーを歌った後で 9 月生まれの
子ども達がろうそくを吹き消してお祝いしました。
お昼休みは、日本の文化であるけん玉を紹介するアメリカ人の団体“けん玉ＵＳＡ”の方達からカルチャ
ーデーの日に教わったけん玉で楽しいひとときを過ごしました。
さらに、４年生が中心となって２５周年にかけて、２５セント（クォーターコイン）を集めてネパールの
子ども達に送るサービスラーニングプロジェクトも始まりました。
セインツがここまで元気に大きく成長できたのは、多くの方達のご支援のおかげです。心から感謝してお
ります。

Anniversary Issue
On September 4, we celebrated our 25th anniversary. After a slide show, our 6th graders stood on the
stage to give some narration: the SAINTS History. The audience was greatly impressed by their high
bilingual ability. The principal’s message was based on the Letter to the Galatians: “There is neither
Jews nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free….” She told the students that this scripture shows that
Jesus, Paul, President Lincoln, and Dr. King are all on one straight line, and that the SAINTS children
are also on this straight line. Thus the SAINTS mission hopes to raise peace makers who are the global
citizens. At the end of the worship, both the kindergarten and elementary students came to stage to sing
“Jesus Loves Me” in both languages. They sang with lots of vigor!
After the worship, the congratulatory remarks were given by Mrs. Nakato and Consul General
Sunaga. Mrs. Nakato’s two daughters attended SAINTS and now she is a grandmother of a current
1st grader. As she witnessed the opening days of SAINTS herself, she was able to tell about all the hard
work and the frontier spirit of the educators and their families who came all the way from Japan to open
a school. We were all very impressed and grateful for those who started the school in Atlanta.
The Consul General of Japan, The Honorable Mr. Sunaga, gave some very encouraging remarks and
told the audience that SAINTS has contributed greatly to the improved relationship of our two countries
by raising bilingual global citizens. Then he gave a special lecture entitled, “Japan/US Relations” for
our 5th and 6th graders. After overcoming the experience of war, Japan and the United States became
like best friends, but he told us that in order to keep and nurture a good friendship, we have to work at
it constantly. He also told them to think about what they can do to continue this good relationship
between the two countries and encouraged them to be the bridge between the two nations. The message
struck a chord with all of the students, parents and teachers who listened to his lecture.
Another highlight of the day were the two gigantic cakes. The cakes suddenly appeared on stage and
we celebrated SAINTS’s 25th birthday by singing the Happy Birthday song and blowing out the candles.
During the lunch break, the elementary students gathered and had Kendama time.
Some young
American people who promote the Japanese Kendama game came to perform during Culture Day in
June.
Ever since, the students have been practicing Kendama, and there were some amazing
performances by the students. (By the way, did you notice that the Statue of Liberty was holding a
Kendama on the 25th picture on stage?)
This was a day that filled all of us with gratitude and reiterated the importance of being thankful.
