Hello, my name is Katrina Barlow and I am a new
ALT for the Ichikawa elementary and junior high
schools. I am so excited to meet the students, teachers, and residents of Ichikawa and Fukusaki. Thank
you so much for your hospitality and kindness for
giving me the opportunity to teach English in Japan.
I came from Seattle, about two hours away from
Port Townsend, Ichikawa's sister city. I hope you
all can visit Seattle sometime. In the city, you can
eat delicious seafood, enjoy the nice summer weather, see Mount Rainier and the Pacific Ocean, and of course, watch Ichiro and the Mariners! My family and I often go to baseball games. I am excited to go to
my first baseball game in Japan.
I attended a private college called Whitman College in Walla Walla,
Washington. I graduated in May this year. My major was in Environmental Studies and Literature. Someday, I would like to be a journalist
or author.One year ago. I lived for five months in Botswana in Africa.
I learned to speak Setswana, taught schoolchildren English, and saw lions, elephants, buffalos, zebras, and giraffes. Now, I am looking forward to spending this next year in Japan.
I have many hobbies. I love playing sports like tennis, jogging, soccer,
and cycling. At Whitman College, I played lacrosse for my school
team. I also enjoy hiking and traveling. This year, I hope to practice Ikebana flower arrangement and tea ceremony.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you. Please say hello if you see
me around town. I can practice my Japanese and you can practice your
English! I am excited to teach elementary and junior high students, and
also to lead eikaiwa classes. Thank you again for this opportunity!
みなさん、初めまして。私はカトリーナ・バーロウといいます。新しいＡ
ＬＴとして、市川町の小・中学校でお世話になることになりました。今から
市川町の生徒さんや先生、また地域のみなさんにお会いできるのを楽しみに
しています。日本で英語を教える機会に恵まれて光栄です。これからどうぞ
よろしくお願いします。
私はシアトルからやってきました。ここの姉妹都市であるポートタウンゼ
ント市へは２時間くらいで行くことができます。みなさんも是非、機会があ
ればシアトルに行ってみてください。食べものはおいしいですし、夏も過ご
しやすい気候であることやマウント・レーニアや太平洋も見られます。そし
てもちろん、シアトルマリナーズやイチローも見られます。アメリカではよ
く家族と一緒に野球観戦に行きました。日本でもチャンスがあれば野球を観
戦しに行きたいと思います。
私は、ワシントン州ワラワラにあるホイットマン・カレッジという私立の
大学で学びました。今年の５月に卒業しました。大学では環境学と文学を専
攻しました。将来はジャーナリストか作家になりたいと思っています。１年
前、私はアフリカのボツワナという国に５ヶ月滞在しました。向こうでは、
ボツワナの公用語であるセツワナ語を学んだり、子どもたちに英語を教えた
り、たくさんの動物たちを見ました。ライオン、象、牛、シマウマやキリン）
今から、日本で過ごす時間が大変楽しみです。
私にはたくさんの趣味があります。まずはスポーツをするのが好きです。
テニスやジョギング、サッカーやサイクリング等です。ホイットマン・カ
レッジではラクロスのチームに所属していました。それからハイキングや旅
行なども好きです。日本にいる間に華道や茶道にも挑戦したいと思っていま
す。
みなさんにお会いできるのを楽しみにしています。もし、私を町で見かけ
たら、気軽に声をかけてください。私は自分の日本語を話す勉強になります
し、みなさんにとっても英語を話す勉強になりますから。私は小・中学校や
英会話教室でみなさんにお会いするのを楽しみにしています。このような機

Hello! My name is Audra Hilse, and I am a new ALT in Ichikawa this
year. I will be teaching in the junior high and elementary schools.
Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity;I have been looking forward to it for a long time!
I am twenty three years old. My family is myself, my parents and one
younger sister. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but moved up to Ham
Lake, Minnesota when I was ten years old. After high school, I attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and got a major in
history. After I graduated, I worked for a year,both at a historical society in Pennsylvania,and at Kohls,a small department store. I also applied for the JET Programme, and was very excited to be accepted.
After my time in Japan is done, I am going on to graduate school,
where I will get a degree in Library Science.
I am very interested in Japanese language and culture, and I hope to
learn a lot in my time here, while I share American language and culture with my students. I am going to practice taiko drumming, and I
would like to travel around Japan and learn more about Japanese history.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all, so that we can share Japanese and American culture and get to know each other even better.

はじめまして。この度、市川町で新しいＡＬＴとして勤
務することになりましたオードラ・ヒルセと申します。
私は２３歳です。家族は父と母と妹の４人です。オハイオ
州のシンシンナティで生まれましたが、１
０歳の時、ミネソ
タ州に引っ越しました。高校卒業後、ウィスコンシン州の
アップルトンのローレンス大学で４年間歴史と日本語を学
びました。大学卒業後、ペンシルベニア州にある歴史協会
とコルズというデパートで１年間仕事をしました。ＪＥＴ
プログラムに申し込んで、受け入れていただき、とても嬉
しかったです。ＪＥＴプログラムが終わってから、大学院に行って、図書館
学修士を勉強したいと思います。
私は日本語と文化と歴史について興味があります。ここにいる間にたくさ
んのことを学びたいと思います。同時に学生さん達にアメリカの文化や英語
について話せたらと思います。日本では、旅行したり、日本史を勉強したり、
和太鼓を打ったりしたいです。
皆さんに会うことを楽しみにしていました。日本とアメリカの文化を分か
