Cover Letter の一例（PLOS One という Online Journal）
You should supply an approximately one page cover letter that:
１ページ以内で以下に関する添え書き（履歴書などで自分をアピールするための表
紙）をつけること。

Concisely summarizes why your paper is a valuable addition to the scientific
literature
学術文献としての貴論文の価値を簡潔に示せ。要するに何が新知見かを示す。

Briefly relates your study to previously published work
既報の論文との関連性を示せ。過去の英語論文の無い場合、どうする？

Specifies the type of article you are submitting (for example, research article,
systematic review, meta-analysis, clinical trial)
投稿先の記事分野を特定せよ。

Describes any prior interactions with PLOS regarding the submitted manuscript

Suggests appropriate PLOS ONE Academic Editors to handle your manuscript
(view a complete listing of our academic editors)
論文を Review できる編集委員を Suggest せよ。

Lists any recommended or opposed reviewers
推奨する Reviewer あるいは対立的な Reviewer をリストせよ。
お気づきのように Cover Letter は面倒ですが、ちゃんと書く作業をすると「自
分の論文の立ち位置」を客観的に判断できます。つまり、Cover Letter を書きな
がら論文の校正をする、という態度も重要です。
