The First Annual Cell and Molecular Biology Research Symposium  Diagnostics of Typhoid Fever, a bacteremia prevalent in underdeveloped countries, lack reliability.
 RNA was analyzed via Gene Expression Microarray and qRT– PCR from different infectious stages  We found 179 and 175 differentially-expressed genes between acute/convalescent and acute/recovery
 Genes of the immune system showed expression reflected the host’s response to the infectious stages
Sarah Borwn The Cell and Molecular Biology department is holding the First Annual CMB Senior Research Symposium. Come hear talks from the gradua>ng seniors on the research they’ve done during their >me at Grand Valley. •

malarial infection.
Gel electrophoresis results reveal
samples positive for malaria in
blood.
Negative samples are possibly
still positive, but malaria is in
different stage of development.
Future experiments involve liver
testing to find presence of
malaria.

Effective population size (Ne) can mimic genetic drift of a population by using microsatellite data
Extended Bayesian Skyline Plot (EBSP) determines historical Ne values and previous size changes
Virginia big-eared bats are not affected by White-nose Syndrome and may have increased in size
A constant population size cannot be rejected, however a slight increase in Ne occurs

 E3 Ubiquitin ligase LRB associates with
scaffold protein Cul3 in red light but
not in the dark
 LRB was successfully purified in-vivo
from Arabidopsis thaliana tissue in
varying light conditions
 Preliminary evidence suggests that
the association between LRB and Cul3
decreases in far-red light
 Activation and association of LRB
complex members may be dependent
on light conditions
