2012, our 20th year as a non-profit social enterprise, was a wonderful celebration of the
many individuals—over 6,500 of them!—who have transformed their lives at FareStart. It was
a celebration also of the number of meals served to the hungry—over 5.5 million!—and of the
positive impact that these endeavors have had on our community over the past two decades.
It was a time to reflect and affirm the importance of our work and mission, and to top it off, it
was a year in which we reached a new level of accomplishment in both our mission outcomes
and our program and business growth.

Catalyst Kitchens has achieved great success to date, growing to 40 members
across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. that are striving to make a significant
collective impact on the cycle of joblessness, poverty and hunger. In 2012,
member organizations across 18 states and three countries provided training to
over 2,000 individuals facing barriers to employment, self-generated more than
$20 million dollars in social enterprise revenue, and provided over 6.7 million
low-cost, nutritious meals to communities in need.

Catalyst Kitchens—an initiative of FareStart—works to replicate, strengthen,
and scale foodservice social enterprises that provide job and life skills training
for individuals facing significant barriers to employment. The Catalyst Kitchens
model has three key components: empowerment through comprehensive, applied
training; sustainability through foodservice social enterprise; and nutritious meals
for communities in need. After a successful four-year pilot, Catalyst Kitchens was
officially launched as a collaborative network of member organizations in 2010.
FareStart is fortunate to have the support of fantastic volunteers in all aspects of the organization, including shelter meal preparation and
delivery, events and benefits, student counseling, Guest Chef Night, and service on strategic committees. We would like to thank all of our
volunteers, but especially the following individuals those who have dedicated over 100 hours of their time and/or put forth an exceptional

outcomes over the past 20 years. Yet we are ever mindful that as long as poverty, joblessness and homelessness are still

are launching a new long-range strategic plan to guide our work going forward, to enable us to continue to grow and increase
