The Beacon January 2015 Hebron Baptist Church 3435 Limaburg Road P. O. Box 92 Hebron, KY 41048 3435 Limaburg Road P.O. Box 92 Hebron, KY 41048 (859) 689-7282 Hebron Baptist is a Christ-centered, caring church. Pastor’s Page God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 (HCSB) The New Year is a good time to look back and look forward. Take a look back to the beginning of 2014 and can you say that you are more like Jesus today than you were then? After our salvation we are being changed by God. Little by little are putting off the flesh and putting on a Spirit led life. We should be constantly changing, growing, and becoming more like Jesus. Do you trust God more today in your finances, job, family, and relationships? Do you find yourself more concerned with the lost in your neighborhood and the nations? Are you able to love others around you better? Do you find yourself more in love with God; seeking him as your only treasure? Brothers and sisters, my prayer is that you are growing in your walk with God. But now as we look ahead, how can you “put on your new self” in 2015? How can your mind be renewed? I don’t like the idea of New Year resolutions; most of them fade as quickly as they are made. When it comes to your relationship to God, you should not be making pledges you don’t intend to keep. However, you can make it a purpose to make new habits that help you be led by the Spirit. Get a plan to read through the Bible this year. Start a prayer journal. Pray for your lost friends and family members. Share the Gospel once a week. Serve in an area at church. Get on a budget and work towards tithing to the Lord’s work. Regularly attend Sunday School or a small group. All these things would help you grow in the Lord in 2015. How will you grow this year? Praying for Unreached People Groups Hajam in Nepal- The Hajams are found in nearly every part of India and most of Pakistan. In Nepal they can be found in almost any part of the Terai region. There is a long-standing tradition of the Hajam being barbers and manicurists. In the Muslim community they often perform hair-trimming for major family events like weddings and funerals. This group remains a strategic people to reach with the Gospel as they have far-reaching connections into the Muslim community socially. Their present faith acknowledges Jesus as a prophet, but denies His place as deity, the Son of God. Christians can carry the Gospel of Christ to the Hajam community through use of Gospel films and recordings, and also by telling stories from Scripture. There has been no indication of any Christian believers among the Muslim Hajam, not in any of the four countries of residence. Please pray for a growing interest in Isa (Jesus) as the Koran is read and taught. Pray the Lord will reveal himself to the Hajam at the proper time. Pray the Hajam community will have an increasing desire for the One who is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Pray the Spirit of Christ will satisfy this desire. Serve As each has received a gift, use it to one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace —1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) 3 Choices for Adults of All Ages Recovering Redemption Co-Ed Life never lacks for improvement—in ourselves, in our relationships, in just about everything. But all our brave stabs at getting better, if they ever change anything, are incomplete at best, complete failures at worst. Unless . . .The gospel of Jesus Christ. Recovering Redemption takes you deeply into Scripture to take you deeply inside yourself, discovering that the heart of all our problems is truly the problem of our hearts. Workbook $15 Optional Book: $9 Rebuild: A Study in Nehemiah Women Only The Book of Nehemiah tells of God's people returned from exile and rebuilding the broken-down city of Jerusalem. More than that, it tells of God’s people being rebuilt according to his Word. This study of Nehemiah helps us learn to walk in faith according to God’s Word, even in times of weakness and rebuilding. Workbook $12 The Gospel According to Jonah Men Only In all of the Bible, Jonah is one character you do not want to emulate. Yet in Jonah we see a dangerously honest reflection of ourselves. He was a nice guy who deep down held a frustration with a God who was acting in ways Jonah couldn't believe to be fair or good. But in Jonah's story we also see a bigger story that Jonah himself missed. A story of love and grace. A story that, when understood, gives us hope that there will be more to our story than there was to Jonah's.
