January 2015 Churchill Estates A NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS PUBLICATION Volume 19, Issue 1 CEHA ANNUAL MEETING RECAP The CEHA 2014 Annual Meeting, held on December 3, resulted in the 2015 budget being passed and new residents elected to the Board of Directors. Thank you to Emma Bridges and Cory Davis for agreeing to serve. Emma was elected to complete the year left in Cindy Horton’s term and Cory will fill a 3-year term in place of Calvin Newkirk. We thank Cindy and Calvin for all that they have done for the neighborhood during the past several years. Current Board members Eddie Duchin and Damon Goebel were each elected to three-year terms. The 2015 dues invoices ($230) will be mailed around the first of January. If you are in good standing, you may take the $10 discount and send $220 if your payment is postmarked by January 31, 2015. The dues deadline is January 31. If you write a check on February 1, please make it in the amount of $232.30, as $2.30 is added for each month your payment is late. The mailing address is CEHA, 13423 Blanco Rd., #288, San Antonio, TX 78216. Contact Rudolph F. Jass, Jr. ( J. J.) at 697-3280 or [email protected] if you have questions about your invoice. Some of you who paid in December of 2014 may receive a 2015 invoice because the invoices were printed before your check was received. Residents in the gated community pay to two associations. Check your invoice to make sure your are mailing payment to the correct address. Captain James Roberts ([email protected]), Officer Kent Novak ([email protected]) and Officer M. Chavez of Bexar County Constable Precinct 3 spoke at the annual meeting about their work as the security officers who patrol Churchill Estates. They said there has been little criminal activity in our subdivision as well as in those nearby during the past 60 days. They have been writing tickets for traffic violations and said most of the drivers were from outside of the neighborhood. They said not to answer the door if you don’t know who’s there and to put a No Soliciting sign on your door to help keep strangers away. Officer Novak said residents are doing a better job of keeping their garage doors closed and having lights turned on around the exterior. Capt. Roberts suggested putting a 2” to 3” screw to anchor your door jamb to keep the door from being kicked in. Capt. Roberts said he will try to have more motorcycle traffic officers on duty in the neighborhood. As a reminder, as of January 1, drivers cannot have a cell phone in their hand according to a new law. The officers suggested completing a vacation patrol request form at www.bexarpolice.com prior to going out of town. You can also complete a “patrol by” request if you would like to have patrols come by your house for a specific period of time. Other safety tips include getting to know your neighbors and their cars so that you are aware if someone suspicious is around, putting your lights on timers and having neighbors pick up your mail when you’re away. A resident asked if people can park their cars in the street. The officers said it is legal as long as the car is moved every 24 hours and as long as one front wheel and one rear wheel are at the curb. If you see illegal parking, call code compliance at 311. W. Loop 1604 (corner of 1604 and Huebner) for an evening of dinner and socializing with our neighborhood ladies. We are always looking for new member hosts or co-hosts to help support our Churchill Estates Women’s Club. If you would like to join or have questions, please call Denise Griffin at 210- 508-0838. The Churchill Estates Women’s Club was started back in 1976 when the neighborhood was a brand new development. The ladies met during the day in a different home every month and usually a speaker or some type of program was presented. Then as more women begin to work outside the home, the meetings were moved into the evening so that more members could attend. In recent years, the club has diminished in active membership, and we are soliciting new members. We usually meet in a restaurant for dinner and socializing, and 3 times a year we meet in a member’s home for our Valentine’s, Margarita and a Holiday party or for special occasions. In every newsletter, we have encouraged new members to join, and have worked hard to continue and sustain the Women’s Club. December Recap The CEWC would like to give special “Thank You” to Mary and Joe Skye for welcoming the Women’s Club into their beautifully remodeled and festive home for our Holiday Party. Blue Santa AKA Donnie Milewski, our community SAPD representative, joined us for dinner and a presentation from the club of a monetary donation and toys for the charities that Blue Santa supports. We also had a visit from the “Sweet Adelines” quartet who serenaded us with several Christmas classics to get us in the spirit; they were delightful. We finished the night with a banquet of delicious food and libations and a white elephant gift exchange. It truly was great night!!! Thanks again to Mary and Joe Skye for your hospitality. Over the years, the club has provided many assets to the neighborhood. Some of the more recent contributions have been the storage unit at the pool, signage for the Blanco entrance, the annual Blue Santa donation, holiday decorations and an annual neighborhood-wide garage sale. We would really like to have new members with fresh ideas as to what we could do to improve, grow and support this neighborhood as a Women’s Club. We want to have this organization be an integral part of this neighborhood to socialize, meet your neighbors and to work toward a common goal to make Churchill Estates an even better community for all of us. It is a great opportunity to get involved, meet new people and keep up with events here in Churchill Estates.
