UVODNIK1:Layout 1.qxd - Sarajevo International Airport

April/Travanj - Oktobar/Listopad 2013. godine
UVODNIK / INTRODUCTION
Dear Readers,
aerodroma.
Do našeg novog izdanja, sve vas srda~no pozdravljam.
We successfully completed the previous business year despite the numerous challenges,
such as absolute suspension of the flights to
Sarajevo in February of 2012 that were operated by the Hungarian airline Malev, drastic reduction in the volume of air operations by the
local airline BH Airlines, as well as the general
situation in the civil aviation.
Looking at the year in front of us, I would like to
point out that we are continuously working toward improving our core business. At the beginning of February, we signed a contract with
the low budget Turkish airline Pegasus Airlines, which will allow our citizens to fly to any
desired destination at the very affordable price.
We are also closing on negotiations to introduce the new regular flight route to Kuwait
(Gryphon Airlines), which should be open in
May of this year, as well as the charter flight on
the same route (Kuwait Airways). As for the
charter air traffic, we expect an increase in this
segment as well, partly because we are seeing
an upward trend among our citizens to travel
to their vacation destinations by air, but also
because there is an increase in the number of
foreign tourists that come to our country directly via our airport.
Our optimism for the year 2013 is based on the
data that is showing an increase in the number
of travelers of 16 percent for the month of February.
Until our next issue, my sincere greetings to all
of you,
Direktor
Ivan Veli~an

Po{tovani ~itatelji,
It has been five months since the last issue of
our journal Sarajevo Airport Magazine. During
this period we did a lot to further develop our
services. First of all, I'm talking about the opening of improved and expanded Duty-Free Shop, which is now based on the “Walk-Through“
concept and offers much higher variety of the
available products. We also expanded the Business Class Passenger Lounges, renovated the
Newsstand at the ground floor of the Terminal
B, and equipped the specially designed Smoking Lounge next to the departure gates.

Aerodrom Sarajevo i Croatia
Airlines imaju odli~nu
saradnju
Direktor Croatia Airlinesa Krešimir Ku~ko posjetio je
Me|unarodni aerodrom Sarajevo, gdje se susreo sa
direktorom Aerodroma Sarajevo Ivanom Veli~anom.
Tokom posjete razmatrane su mogu}nosti
poboljšanja poslovne saradnje i razvoja prometa na
Aerodromu Sarajevo. Direktor hrvatskog nacionalnog avioprevoznika tom prilikom je najavio kako }e
Croatia Airlines u ljetnom redu letenja 2013. godine
Me|unarodni aerodrom Sarajevo u sljede}oj godini,
osim sa Zagrebom, pove`e i sa još nekim evropskim
destinacijama Croatia Airlinesa. Podsje}amo, zrakoplovi hrvatskog avioprevoznika su u zimskom redu
letenja direktno povezivali Sarajevo i Zagreb svakog
dana u sedmici. Putnicima je bilo na raspolaganju
ukupno 11 letova sedmi~no - ponedjeljkom, srijedom,
petkom i nedjeljom, kada se leti dvaput dnevno, a
utorkom, ~etvrtkom i subotom planiran je poslijepodnevni let.
Direktor Ivan Veli~an izrazio je zadovoljstvo

Excellent Cooperation
Between Sarajevo Airport
and Croatia Airlines
The CEO of Croatia Airlines, Mr. Kresimir Kucko,
visited Sarajevo International Airport and met with
its director Mr. Ivan Velican. During the visit, he
explored new improvement possibilities of the
current business cooperation and development
options for the air traffic volume at the Sarajevo
Airport. Director of the Croatian national air carrier
also announced that their summer flight schedule
for 2013 will again have 13 flights per week on the
route Sarajevo - Zagreb, and that they will also consider possibility of connecting Sarajevo International
Airport next year with, in addition to Zagreb, other
European destinations covered by Croatia Airlines.
During the winter schedule, aircrafts of the Croatian
air carrier directly connected Sarajevo and Zagreb
every day of the week. There were 11 total flights per
week available to the passengers, including two flight
per day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and
Sundays, and one afternoon flight on Tuesdays,
Thursdays and Saturdays.
Mr. Ivan Velican is extremely satisfied with the
current business cooperation with Croatia Airlines,
because they are significantly contributing to the
business of the Airport with their current number of
flights and carried passengers. He also recalled that
in 1996, Croatia Airlines airplane was the first one to
land at the renovated Sarajevo Airport when it was
officially opened for regular air traffic. Since then,
travelers from Bosnia and Herzegovina enjoy continuous direct flights on the route Sarajevo - Zagreb, as
well as convenient connection options to other European and international destinations. After final words
of gratitude to the host for the organized visit, the
CEO of Croatia Airlines also expressed his support to
the Airport’s management efforts toward continuous
business improvements, in hope that their successful cooperation will continue in the future. S

tim, stvaranjem preduvjeta za što lakše

koje i u vrijeme sveprisutne ekonomske krize u našoj zemlji uspijeva
Aerodrom odr`ati uspješnim.
“Novo rukovodstvo Me|unarodnog aerodroma Sarajevo došlo je u
zrakoplovstvo u pitanju. U posljednje vrijeme svjedoci smo propadanja
aviokompanija, ukidanja redovnih linija, smanjenja broja putnika...U

novo rukovodstvo ula`e iznimne napore kako bi svi resursi i potencijali
bili maksimalno iskorišteni, unapre|uju prate}e komercijalne djelatnosti, preispituju kapitalna ulaganja i vrlo racionalno donose odluke o

Recognition to the Management
The Minister Hadzic particularly emphasized the success
of the Sarajevo Airport’s new leadership managed by the director
Mr. Ivan Velican, which even in these times of economy crisis in
our country manages to maintain the Airport successful.
“The new management of the Sarajevo International Airport was
established during the turbulent events in the civil aviation that
affected our country and the world. In recent times we have
witnessed the deterioration of airlines, termination of regular flight
routes, and decline in the number of passengers.... At such times
we must be able to find new possibilities, sort of speaking, for s
urviving this situation until better times for civil aviation arrive. I
think that the new management is making enormous efforts to
fully mobilize all of the available resources and potentials, improve

smanjen, stagnira i broj putnika i u toj

“There was an intention for capacity expansion, but that plan

to the global recession and the
time when air travel was experiencing upward trajectory trend.
However, the recession has done
its part, so the number of airlines
has been decreased and number
of passengers stagnated, but despite this situation the current capacity of the Sarajevo Airport is
still satisfactory and there is no
need for the expansion. Of course,
management of the Sarajevo Airport is monitoring the overall situation and I am sure that they will
know how to forecast our future

will always support the positive,

In addition to the Sarajevo International Airport, our country has
another three international airports in Tuzla, Mostar and Banja
Luka. However, apart from the
Mostar Airport, other two airports operate with significantly reduced capacity and do not have a
profitable number of passengers
and airlines. Therefore, there is a
proposal for these airports to become service centers and support
to the Sarajevo International Airport.
“The other three airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina also have the
status of international airports.
Their capacities and equipment
including materials and human
resources are different and in accordance with the categories that
these airports have. There is a
connection between the local airports that is regularly maintained
and further intensified in exceptional circumstances when additional support is provided. You had
an example of such support in
2005 when Sarajevo Airport had
to be closed because the runway
was coated with the layer of antiskid, so all flights at that time
were diverted to the Tuzla Airport.
In case of bad weather conditions,
the airport cannot make a decision
for the flight to be diverted to alternative airport, but that decision is
made by the airline operating the
flight, but only in situations that
prevent them from landing on the
originaly set airport destination.
Mostar Airport was often looked at
as an alternative to the Sarajevo
Airport, however, during the last
year this airport managed to accomplish the pre-war annual circulation of 80,000 passengers and
this number is expected to further
increase by 30 percent this year.
Mostar Airport is an important link
in the development of tourism in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, and our
ministry supports the efforts of the
Mostar Airport’s management to
take the passengers from Split and
Dubrovnik whose final destination
is Medjugorje“, concludes Mr.

Five Service Departments
“Ever since Sarajevo Airport was relocated to the
new location during the 70s, there has been Air Traffic Control Center at the airport. The control at that
time was administrated by the Federal Air Traffic Control of Yugoslavia until the
beginning of the last war. In
the period from 1992 to 1996,
Sarajevo Airport was controlled by the international
peacekeeping troops, after
which we received control
over the airport in 1996. However, at that time we did not
do initial control of the air traffic, but we performed administrative duties and made
flight plans. Control officially
started with business in year
of 2000, after Federal Directorate of Civil Aviation was
formed. That is when we first

then we offer services independently through our five Center service departments, and
those are Air Traffic Control

“Što je ve}a frekvencija saobra}aja, posao je stresniji.

je letilo još nekoliko kompanija, a imali ste i strane vojne
organizacije sa svojim letjelicama. Tome trebate dodati
situacija. To zavisi i od kadra, jer prilikom obuke mla|ih
ljudi trebate obratiti pa`nju, kako biste u budu}nosti
stresne situacije sveli na minimum“, objašnjava Had`iali}.

“We have applied to FED-CAD for expansion of the
administrative space, and four years ago IPSA made a
renovation project proposal to upgrade the existing
space by building additional storey. However, that
project was stopped because of the financial crisis, but
it is still
usable. We had more important investments to make
such as purchasing of new equipment and hiring of
additional people, which further pushed aside that
project. The expansion project will probably be realized sometimes in the future, but currently our capacity is big enough to operate three times higher volume
of traffic than we currently have,” explains Mr.
Hadzialic.
send them abroad. I hope that by the end of this year
we will take the airspace over whole Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to become fully autonomous, and
thus allow conditions for educating future generations of air traffic controllers,“ says Mr. Hadzialic and
adds that air traffic controller’s work is always stressful, but that stress also depends on the given situation.
Investing in Education
“Higher the volume of the air traffic, the Controller’s
job is more stressful. Sarajevo International Airport
does not have as much traffic as it had before, when
additional airlines and foreign military organizations
flew with their aircrafts. Another reason is the location of the airport, which is in the urban side of the
city and surrounded by the unfavorable terrain orography with the high mountains. The job is stressful,
but we never experienced any dangerous situations.
That also depends on the staff, because during the
training of younger people you have to pay careful attention to them, so you could reduce the future stressful situations to a minimum,“ explains Mr.
Hadzialic.
It is well known that Sarajevo International Airport
is one of the most challenging airports in the world
in terms of navigating the airplanes to safely approach and land, and that is mainly due to its complex geographic location. In addition, we should also mention
the unpredictable weather conditions that can often
cancel flights out of the Sarajevo International Airport. However, air traffic controllers are trained to
navigate the airplanes even in the most severe
weather conditions.
“Poor weather conditions can significantly affect our
work because we are situated at the unfavorable geographic location and we often have problems with
the fog in the area. However, we have the modern
equipment that enables us to land airplanes even in
those conditions. The most challenging problem for
us is the orography of the terrain, which dictates the
EU and ICAO regulations. Sarajevo International Air-

port belongs to the ILS runway category 1, but there
are also categories 2 and 3. For example, airport in
Ljubljana is also located close to the hills, but not
close to the populated area, and because of that it has
higher category rating than us. In order for us to receive a higher category rating, and with that reducing
the meteo minimum for operations, part of the Ilidza
area should be ununhabited because of usage of the
radio altimeter. Federal Directorate of Civil Aviation
created landing procedure, which states that all of
the airplanes can land here as long as the visibility is

at 550 meters or better. That number can sometimes
even be lower, but the flight crew cannot go below
this limit. Lately there has not been that much fog and
with that no cancellations of the flights. Today even
bigger problem than fog is air pollution, therefore,
there are couple of days in the year that make our
work even more difficult. Our work is very dependable
on the weather monitoring services, which I have to
compliment because this is a service that works 24
hours a day and continuously provides us with the weather reports. As a part of this service we have eight
observers and four meteorologists. We recently sent
another young person to Zagreb for additional education in becoming a meteorologist, and after that he
will receive further education in the Great Britain. We
dedicated a lot of attention to training and education
in all of our sectors, whether these are completed
abroad or in the country. We never received one complaint from any airline, which proves that we are
doing a good job,“ proudly states Mr. Hadzialic. 27

aviona i njihovih slijetanja, najviše zahvaljuju}i njegovom
slo`enom geografskom polo`aju.
diktira EU i ICAO pravila. Sarajevski aerodrom spada u
ILS prilaz kategorije 1, a postoje kategorije 2 i 3.
U posljednje vrijeme
i nema toliko magle, a samim tim ni otkazivanja letova.
slu`be imamo osam osmatra~a i ~etiri prognosti~ara.

Increased Number of
Travelers
The beginning of this year brought higher number of
travelers compared to the same time period in 2012.
Therefore, it would be a logical conclusion that this
year will set new records in the number of travelers
that will pass through the Sarajevo International Airport. However, even with these optimistic assumptions,
the Aviation Services Sales Office is still on alert.
“We aim to record our business growth on an annual
basis, but during the planning process we have to be
realistic and careful, as well as take into consideration
all of the relevant factors that can greatly influence
realization of the given performance objectives at the
Airport. Here, first of all, I'm talking about the stillpresent global economy crisis, current situation in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as forecasts of the I
nternational Monetary Fund and IATA (International Air
Transport Association) for the current year, which can
indirectly have large impact on the operations of the
Airport. For this year we will do our best to archive best
possible results. Therefore, our goal is to increase the
number of travelers, but it is still early to say whether
this will be a record year. Nevertheless, it should be
noted that we are on the right track, because in the first
two months we are recording an increase in the number of travelers, which is at 16% for the month of

Lakši ulaz i izlaz

odmah u}i u free shop, a kretanjem kroz njega mogu

i zna~ajnu zastupljenost proizvoda doma}ih proizvo|a~a.
Novi koncept Duty-free shopa pribli`it }e putnicima najekskluzivnije robne marke uz degustacije i promocije

od parfema i kozmetike, duhanskih proizvoda, tekstila i

Goal of the Walk-Through Duty-Free Shop is to enable

When my friends saw that the donations were going

problems in our work, except the situation when
one shopping center did not allow us to set up a
food collection stand in theri premisses, because at
that time we were not registered as a foundation,“
explains Mr. Karalic.
Even though at the beginning they were only collecting food, clothes, and other supplies, because of the

Sarajevo International Airport also helped the work
of the Foundation by donating 2,000 KM during the
opening ceremony of its new Walk Through DutyFree Shop in November of last year.
“That donation was of the great importance and we
were happy that someone recognized our efforts and
work, because at that time not many people knew
about pomozi.ba. That money we immediately
transferred to the account of the five year old Tarik
Hadzirovic, who was missing that amount for the eye

“Given that there is a big economy crisis in our society, it is very hard today to generate donations, because we are not receiving any support from the
state institutions, but just from the individuals and
privately owned companies, which from time to time
give us donations mostly in form of their products.
As for the financial donations, most of them are
coming from our people that live abroad, but we
also have the cases where people in Bosnia and
Herzegovina organize fund-raising events and deposit collected money to our account, which we further distribute to the vulnerable families and
individuals. We did not run into any obstacles when

World's Support
Mr. Osmanagic claims that the site of theBosnian pyramids is currently the most attractive archeological
site in the world, which last year alone visited several
thousands of tourists that personally wanted to get the
information about the origin of this archeological wonder. Just during the 2012 we had more than 500 volunteers and professionals in Visoko from 52 countries
and six continents. We worked on all of the pyramids
and discovered new 250 meters of the prehistoric underground tunnels. Without almost any support from
the local government, we still attracted tens of thousands of tourists. One of our main goals is to enter the
Pyramid of the Sun through the excavated tunnel. This
is a long term interdisciplinary project that will forever
change the face of domestic science, as well as
tourism and economy,“ said Mr. Osmanagic.
Since 2005, dozens of documentaries have been filmed
about this site and the latest documentary, which is perhaps the most significant one, was filmed last year by History Channel, one of the world's largest TV networks,
which confirmed the existence of the Bosnian pyramids,
and their discoverer Mr. Semir Osmanagic was recognized as one of the leading experts in the phenomenon of
the world pyramids.
"History Channel is one of the three largest scientific
documentary TV channels in the world. The authors included the Bosnian pyramids in the network of the world's most important pyramids. In the documentary they
ask the question why the official science institutions preclude excavation of the Chinese and Bosnian pyramids.
History Channel broadcasted the documentary Secrets
of the Pyramids in December of last year to worldwide
audience of millions of people. The documentary showed
the pyramids in Egypt, China, Mexico, Mauritius, Bosnia
and Herzegovina, Canary Islands, Peru, Bolivia, Guatemala, Sudan, but most of the time was given to Egyptian and our pyramids, " proudly says Mr. Osmanagic.

gradnji zbog dobrih karakteristika.
povezana vodotokovima s piramidama Zmaja i Sunca.

Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids is considered to be the
world's largest complex of pyramid structures. It includes the Pyramid of the Sun (Visocica), which is with its
height of over 220 meters much higher than the Cheops
Pyramid, same as the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon
(Pljesevica) with190 meters in height, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Dragon (Buci) with 90 meters in height, as
well as the processed elevations of the Temple of the
Mother Earth (Krstac) and Pyramid of Love (Cemerac).
Pyramid of the Sun, Moon and Dragon form a regular
equilateral triangle with a distance of 2.170 meters between each of their peaks. Orientation of the pyramids’
sides is straight and pointed to the cosmic north. At the
Conclusions of the First International Scientific Conference on Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids, which took place
in August of 2008, 55 leading experts from 13 countries
concluded that "the Bosnian pyramids are archeological
phenomenon that should be intensively investigated."
Ground penetration and thermal recording confirmed the
existence of the passages and chambers inside of the pyramids. Analysis of the block samples, which cover the
Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, at the Institute for Materials
in Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, and Italy confirmed
that this material is indeed a very high quality concrete.
According to a radiocarbon analysis conducted in 2011 in
Poland and soil analysis of the Bosnian pyramid, it was
established that the pyramids were built more than 10,000
years ago. Underground labyrinth beneath the city of Visoko extends more than several kilometers in length and
consists from number of passages, rooms and artificial
groundwater lakes. The beginning of research was officially initiated in April of 2005, right after Mr. Semir Osmanagic gave the hypothesis that a complex of pyramids
with a network of underground tunnels exists on the teritory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today, this is the world's
largest archeological research project that attracts tens
of thousands of tourists every year to Visoko.
Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon
Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon with its height of 190 meters is higher than the Cheops Pyramid in Egypt (147
meters). It was built out of treated panels of sandstone
and clay. The sandstone quarries are located in the vicinity, as well as the source of clay that was used as a
binder, waterproof material and insulation. The design of
the pyramid is terrace looking, which is unique for the
world of pyramids. The upper layer of sandstone slab is
glued to the base. Organic material was found between
the two layers in the archeological probe number 20 at
the west side of the pyramid that, according to the radiocarbon analysis at the Physics Institute of the Silesia
University in Gliwice (Poland 2011), dates from year
10,350 BC. This way it has been scientifically confirmed

Prolazi ispod kompleksa
Ispod Bosanske doline piramida izgra|ena je kompleksna mre`a prolaza, raskrsnica, prostorija i podzemnih
vodenih akumulacija. Otkri}e ovog labirinta najavio je
pronalaza~ bosanskih piramida Semir Osmanagi} u
construction that is older than the culture of Sumerian,
Babylon and ancient Egypt.
Institute for Materials at the University of Zenica confirmed the different strength and porosity of the individual
sandstone slabs found in the same line, which confirms
that the sandstone slabs were excavated from the different depths in the quarries. Otherwise, sandstone is the
construction material that is used to this day in construction due its proven characteristics. Beneath the Pyramid
of the Moon there is an accumulation of water streams
connected to the pyramids of the Sun and Dragon.
Underground Tunnels KTK
Underground tunnels found on territory of the company KTK were rediscovered in 2006 near the river
Bosnia. The Foundation has cleared and stabilized 150
meters of the tunnels. Their height is three meters and
width is 2.5 meters. Fragments of stone circles were
found in the abraded material. One of the existing tunnels stretches into the direction of the Pyramid of the
Moon, and the other one into the Pyramid of the Sun.
Underground room was first discovered in 2007, but
shortly thereafter water began to penetrate into the
room preventing the further work. The assumption is
that this is the water from the river Fojnica, beneath
which the tunnel runs to the Pyramid of the Sun.

sli~nim primjerima podzemnih tunela u Egiptu, Kini i
Meksiku.
i pedesetak metara tunelskog prolaza prirodna pe}ina.
pru`a desetinama kilometara. Udaljenost od ulaza pa
do Bosanske piramide Sunca iznosi 2,9 kilometara.
tunele i prostorije zatrpala šljunkovitim materijalom
prije 5.000 godina.
prekrivana Bosanska piramida Sunca. U labirintu ne
postoje negativna zra~enja: kosmi~ka (Hartmanove,
Kirijeve i Snajderove mre`e), prirodna radioaktivnost ili
negativna energija iz podzemnih vodenih tokova. Stoga
Cirkulacija
zraka je izvanredna i postignuta je razli~itom visinom
stropova koji su uzrokovali razli~it potisak i prirodnu
ventilaciju.
SIAM

Underneath of the Bosnian Pyramid there is a complex
network of passes, crossroads, premises and underground water reservoirs. Discoverer of the Bosnian pyramids,
Mr. Semir Osmanagic, announced the discovery of this labyrinth in his book, which was published in 2005, basing
his hypothesis on the similar examples of underground tunnels in Egypt, China and Mexico. Before that people in Visoko thought that the low entrance and fifty meters of the
tunnel passage were elements of a natural cave. After the
years of hard and persistent work, Foundation confirmed
that this is an underground labyrinth inside of the conglomerate that is stretching tens of kilometers in length. Distance from the entrance to the Pyramid of the Sun is 2.9
kilometers. There are at least two cultural layers visible:
labyrinth builders (more than 12,000 years ago) and civilization that buried the tunnels and rooms with gravel material 5,000 years ago. Material that was excavated during
the construction of the tunnel was used to make the concrete that Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun was covered with.
In the labyrinth there is no negative radiation: cosmic (Hartman, Rents and Snyder network), natural radioactivity
or negative energy from the underground water supplies.
Therefore, this location is one of the safest on the planet
that allowed health protection and body revitalization. Activities of the Foundation include cleaning of the existing
prehistoric tunnels from present gravel materials and securing the tunnel passages that lead to the Pyramid of
the Sun with the wooden support. The air circulation is
excellent and it is achieved thanks to the variation in the
ceiling heights that caused different thrust and natural
ventilation. The slope of the tunnel is 1.5 degrees, which
allowed fine drainage of water. The concentration of the
negative ions, which clean the atmosphere from bacteria
and viruses, is a few tenth higher than the average and
that explains the beneficial effects that the tunnel has on
human body. PROMO
