ο καλοκαίρι μάς αποχαιρέτησε πλέον για τα καλά και το φθινόπωρο, η μελαγχολικότερη εποχή του χρόνου, έχει πάρει τη θέση
του. Όμως, αν βρίσκεστε στην Αθήνα, δεν υπάρχει πραγματικός λόγος να αισθάνεστε μελαγχολία λόγω του καιρού: η ελληνική πρωτεύουσα βρίσκεται στην κορυφή της λίστας με τις ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις όσον αφορά στον αριθμών των ημερών ηλιοφάνειας ετησίως. Ακόμη και αν το ημερολόγιο δείχνει Νοέμβριο, πιθανότατα μπορείτε να κυκλοφορείτε κατά το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ημέρας με ένα
t-shirt, κρατώντας μια ζακέτα ή ένα ελαφρύ μπουφάν για τις νυχτερινές ώρες.
Όταν βρίσκεστε στην Αθήνα άλλωστε, δεν υπάρχει τίποτα καλύτερο από το
να κάνετε βόλτα σε μερικά από τα πλέον αγαπημένα μέρη της πόλης: την Ακρόπολη, το Αστεροσκοπείο, την Αρχαία Αγορά και την Ακαδημία. Θέλουμε να τα
μοιραστούμε όλα μαζί σας, επειδή όμως είναι τόσα πολλά, αποφασίσαμε να τα
χωρίσουμε και να σας τα παρουσιάσουμε αλφαβητικά, ξεκινώντας βεβαίως από
το «Α» - θα διαβάσετε περισσότερα στη σελίδα 36.
Αν δεν θέλετε να περάσετε όλες σας τις μέρες στο ιστορικό κέντρο της πόλης,
μια επίσκεψη στο παραθαλάσσιο προάστιο της Γλυφάδας, το Μαϊάμι της Αττικής,

Summer has bid us farewell and autumn, the most melancholic of the four
seasons, has taken its place. However, there is no reason to feel melancholy
about the weather if you’re in Athens: the Greek capital is at the top of the list
of European destinations with the highest average number of sunny days per
year. Even if the calendar says it is November, it will probably be possible to walk
around during the day in a t-shirt and a cardigan or light jacket in the evening.
After all, there’s nothing like a walk around some of the most beloved sites in
the city: the Acropolis, the Observatory, the Ancient Agora and the Academy.
We want to share them all with you, but because there are so many, we decided
to start with the letter “A” – you can read more on page 36.
If you don’t want to spend all your days in the historic city centre, a visit to
the seaside suburb of Glyfada, also called the Miami of Attica, will acquaint you
with the Greek version of well being, luxury and a carefree lifestyle. And if you
prefer a longer excursion, the picturesque island of Poros (which is accessible
by car as well as ferry) is a wonderful and rejuvenating option.
In the unlikely event that the weather throws a wrench in your plans, there
are dozens of cultural events in Athens, which can be visited without worrying
about the rain: from the interesting exhibitions at the Museum of Cycladic Art
and the Visitor’s Centre of the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Foundation, to the
performances and concerts you can read about in our Agenda.
In closing, we would like to draw your attention to a special interview with
Nana Mouskouri in this very issue. To have had the opportunity to engage in
a private discussion with an artist who has sung in every corner of the world
with tremendous success and has sold over 300 million albums, was an amazing
experience and a great honour. We extend our warmest thanks to the Grande

Δύο εκθέσεις του Μουσείου Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης φιλοδοξούν να μας δώσουν μια
πιο σφαιρική άποψη για τη σχέση του αρχαίου κόσμου με την ιατρική και τη

Two exhibitions at the Museum of Cycladic Art aspire to offer a more
comprehensive perspective of the relationship between the ancient world,

άρμακα, αλλά και γιατροσόφια. Επιστήμονες, αλλά και κομπογιαννίτες. Μάγοι, αλλά και ιερείς. Διαλογισμός, αλλά
και ξεμάτιασμα. Ο άνθρωπος δεν έπαψε ποτέ να επιθυμεί την αθανασία και να
πιστεύει στο μεταφυσικό, ακόμη και αν αυτό σήμερα, φαίνεται να μη συμβαδίζει
με τη θεαματική εξέλιξη της επιστήμης. Η φύση του ανθρώπου φαίνεται να επιτρέπει παράλληλα με τον ορθολογισμό της σύγχρονης ιατρικής και τα εναλλακτικά λοξοκοιτάγματα.
Ποια ήταν όμως η στάση των ανθρώπων απέναντι στις ιατρικές θεραπείες των
νόσων στην αρχαία Ελλάδα και ποια η σχέση τους με το θάνατο και τη μεταθανάτια ζωή;
Μετά την έκθεση «Έρως», το Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης ολοκληρώνει την τριλογία αρχαιολογικών εκθέσεων που πραγματεύονται πανανθρώπινα θέματα, συνεχίζοντας με τις δύο μεγάλες εκθέσεις «Ίασις» και «Επέκεινα». Ο πόθος της νίκης
απέναντι στο θάνατο, είτε με τη θεραπεία είτε με την επιστροφή στη ζωή, είναι μύχιος, αλλά αδιαμφισβήτητα υπαρκτός και απασχολεί τον άνθρωπο εις το διηνεκές.
Στην έκθεση «Ίασις. Υγεία, Νόσος, Θεραπεία από τον Όμηρο στον Γαληνό»
θα έχουμε την ευκαιρία να δούμε εικονογραφήσεις που αφορούν στην υγιεινή
διατροφή και τον αθλητισμό, αλλά και αντικείμενα που σχετίζονται με την ατομική υγιεινή, όπως για παράδειγμα, οι στλεγγίδες, που ήταν ένα είδος αρχαίας
συσκευής απολέπισης! Θα διαπιστώσουμε ότι ήδη από τα αρχαία χρόνια, οι
ασθένειες διαχωρίζονταν σε σωματικές και ψυχικές, ενώ θα πληροφορηθούμε τόσο για τη θεουργική, όσο και για την επιστημονική ιατρική. Ποιος γνωρίζει ότι ο Ασκληπιός, που είχε ιδρύσει θεραπευτήρια σε ολόκληρο τον ελληνικό κόσμο, χρησιμοποιούσε ως μέθοδο ιάσεως των ικετών που ζητούσαν καταφύγιο στην «εγκοίμηση», θεραπεία κατά την οποία οι ασθενείς κοιμόντουσαν
μέσα στο ναό, ευελπιστώντας να εμφανιστεί στο όνειρό τους ο ίδιος ο Ασκλη-

Medications and remedies. Scientists and charlatans.
Magicians and priests. Meditation and the evil eye. Man has never stopped
desiring immortality and believing in the supernatural, even if these days it doesn’t
appear to be consistent with the dramatic evolution of science. The nature of
man seems to allow for both the rationalism of modern medicine and alternative
doctrines.
But what was the attitude of the people of Ancient Greece towards the medical
treatment of diseases, and their philosophy on death and the afterlife?
Subsequent to the Eros exhibition, the Museum of Cycladic Art completes its
trilogy of archaeological exhibitions with Hygieia: Health, Illness and Treatment
from Homer to Galen and Beyond: Death and Afterlife in Ancient Greece. The
desire to cheat death, either through treatment or resurrection is an innermost
aspiration that remains undeniably real and has occupied man since the beginning
of time.
The "Hygieia: Health, Illness and Treatment from Homer to Galen" exhibition
presents illustrations on healthy diet and sport as well as objects related to personal
hygiene, such as the strigil, an ancient exfoliating tool! Even in ancient times, diseases
were separated into physical and mental categories, and visitors will learn about
theurgy (the effect of a supernatural or divine agency on human affairs) and
scientific medicine. Who knew that Asclepius, the founder of hospitals throughout
the Greek world, employed a “slumber” treatment, where patients slept in the
temples in the hope that Asclepius himself would appear in their dreams and either
heal them or give them advice, which the priests would interpret the following day!
The "Beyond: Death and Afterlife in Ancient Greece" exhibition comprises a
collaboration between 6 countries and 21 museums and curators, and tackles

Στην έκθεση «Επέκεινα. Ο Θάνατος και η Μεταθανάτια Ζωή στην αρχαία Ελλάδα», μια έκθεση για την οποία συνεργάστηκαν 6 χώρες και 21 μουσεία και εφορίες αρχαιοτήτων, θα προσεγγίσουμε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα μυστήρια που
απασχόλησε και εξακολουθεί να απασχολεί τον άνθρωπο, την τύχη της αθάνατης ψυχής μετά τον θάνατο του φθαρτού σώματος. Θα πληροφορηθούμε για
τελετουργικές θυσίες, έθιμα ταφής, κηδείες (εκ του ρήματος «κήδομαι» που σημαίνει φροντίζω), για πεσόντες εν πολέμω, για άωρους (πριν την ώρα τους) αλλά
και για βιαιοθάνατους. Θα διακρίνουμε τον επικό Κάτω Κόσμο του Ομήρου, από
τον ποιητικό και μυστηριακό Άδη του Ορφέα, αλλά και από τον φιλοσοφικό Άδη
του Πλάτωνα, οι αντιλήψεις του οποίου σηματοδοτούν τη μεταστροφή της αντίληψης για το θείο στοιχείο συνιστώντας εξέλιξη και αντίποδα της ομηρικής σκέψης.

one of the greatest mysteries that continues to puzzle and concern us: the fate
of the immortal soul after the death of the body. Visitors will be informed about
ritual sacrifices, burial customs, funerals (the Greek verb "kidomai" means care
for), casualties of war, premature babies and violent death. Wander through
the Homer’s epic Underworld, from the poetic and mysterious Hades of
Orpheus to the philosophical Hades of Plato, whose concepts signify a shift
in perception towards the divine element that constitutes an evolution and
contrast to Homeristic views.

τι και να πει ʹή να γράψει κάποιος
για τη Νάνα Μούσχουρη, θα είναι πραγματικά λίγο. Η πλέον επιτυχημένη Ελληνίδα ερμηνεύτρια και μια από τις πιο επιτυχημένες διεθνώς –οι πωλήσεις των δίσκων της σε βινύλιο και cd φτάνουν τα 300 εκατομμύρια αντίτυπα- έχει συνεργαστεί από το 1958 με μερικούς από τους σημαντικότερους Έλληνες και ξένους δημιουργούς. Έχει τραγουδήσει στα ελληνικά, τα αγγλικά, τα γαλλικά, τα γερμανικά,
αλλά και στα κινέζικα, στα τουρκικά και στα εβραϊκά μεταξύ άλλων, προκαλώντας
πάντα την ίδια θερμή ανταπόκριση στο κοινό. Χάρη στο μοναδικό χάρισμα της
φωνής της, πέρασε με μοναδική ευκολία και εξίσου απολαυστικά από την ελληνική μουσική στην τζαζ, την ποπ, την φολκ ή οποιοδήποτε άλλο είδος θέλησε να
δοκιμάσει. Μια τόσο σημαντική και ανήσυχη καλλιτέχνης, δεν θα μπορούσε να
γιορτάσει τα 80 της χρόνια, παρά με μια διεθνή περιοδεία, την «Happy Birthday
Tour», της οποίας σταθμός είχαμε τη χαρά να είναι και η Αθήνα.
Αλήθεια, πώς αισθάνεται ένας ζωντανός θρύλος σαν εσάς; «Πάνω από όλα
μια τεράστια ευθύνη, αλλά και ευγνωμοσύνη για όλο τον κόσμο που άκουσε τις
ανάγκες μιας φωνής. Ανάγκες που αφορούσαν στην αλήθεια και την αγάπη».
Πώς έγινε και βρεθήκατε να ασχολείστε με το τραγούδι; «Το τραγούδι ήταν
και παραμένει η πρώτη μου αγάπη, ίσως δεν θα υπήρχα αν δεν είχα αγαπήσει το
τραγούδι και αν η μουσική δε με είχε αποδεχθεί».
Θα μπορούσε να είχε συμβεί κάτι και να μην είχατε γίνει τραγουδίστρια; «Το
γεγονός ότι είμαι εδώ σημαίνει ότι εργάσθηκα σκληρά, αποτελεσματικά και με απόλυτη πίστη. Το είχα σκοπό από πολύ μικρή, ήταν το πεπρωμένο μου, υπήρξαν άνθρωποι που πίστεψαν σε μένα και εγώ σε αυτούς, η ζωή δε γράφεται διαφορετικά».
Πού μεγαλώσατε; «Γεννήθηκα στα Χανιά της Κρήτης, αλλά μεγάλωσα στην Αθήνα, στο Κουκάκι».

Although much has been written and said about Nana Mouskouri, it barely scrapes the surface. The most successful Greek singer and one of
the most celebrated internationally (she has sold 300 million vinyl records and
CDs), has been working since 1958, when she made her debut with some of the
most important Greek and foreign artists. She sings in Greek, English, French, German and in Chinese, Turkish and Hebrew, always provoking the same warm response from the audience, wherever in the world she may be performing. Thanks
to the unique tone of her voice, she moved with ease from Greek music to jazz,
pop, folk and any other genre that appealed to her. What better way for such an
important and restless artist to celebrate her 80th year but with an international
tour, her Happy Birthday Tour? We were graced with her presence in Athens.
What does it feel like to be a living legend? More than anything, it’s a huge responsibility and also a tremendous gratitude to all the people who listened to
the yearnings of a voice. Yearnings about truth and love.
What was your first contact with singing? Singing was and still is my first love.
Perhaps I wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t fallen in love with singing and if music hadn’t
accepted me.
Could you have become anything else but a singer? The fact that I am here
means that I’ve worked hard, assiduously and with absolute faith. I had a goal
from a very young age, it was my destiny, and there were people who believed
in me and I in them. My life couldn’t have gone in any other direction.
Where were you raised? I was born in Chania, Crete, but grew up in Koukaki, Athens.
Do you think you were born a great singer, or did you become one? I don’t

Πιστεύετε ότι γεννηθήκατε μεγάλη τραγουδίστρια ή ότι γίνατε; «Θεωρώ πως
κανένας δε γεννιέται. Ό, τι γίνεσαι στη ζωή σου, γίνεσαι μέσα από την ανάγκη
για μάθηση και από την ανάγκη για βελτίωση. Eίναι ένας καθημερινός αγώνας με
σκληρή δουλειά».
Θυμάστε ποιο ήταν το πρώτο μουσικό άκουσμα στη ζωή σας; «Δεν μπορώ
να θυμηθώ ακριβώς, ήταν πολλές φωνές μαζί, η φωνή της Billie Holiday, της Ella
Fitzgerald, του Nat King Cole, της Judy Garland και βέβαια της Μαρίας Κάλλας».
Υπήρχαν άνθρωποι που θαυμάζατε όταν ήσασταν σε μικρή ηλικία και θέλατε να γίνετε σαν και αυτούς όταν μεγαλώσετε; «Ξέρετε, η μουσική με έκανε
ευτυχισμένη, ήθελα να τραγουδάω γιατί ήμουν ευτυχής, δεν ήξερα τίποτα άλλο.
Άκουγα πολλούς, αλλά χωρίς να έχω μία ιδέα προσδιορισμού ή μια συγκεκριμένη κατεύθυνση».
Από όλους τους συνθέτες που έχετε συνεργαστεί, ποιανού η γνώμη σάς ενδιέφερε περισσότερο; «Είχα την τύχη να συνεργαστώ τόσο με αναγνωρισμένους,
όσο και με νεότερους συνθέτες. Όλοι είχαν την αξία τους. Δεν είναι τόσο η γνώμη
τους βέβαια που είχε σημασία, όσο η μουσική και τα τραγούδια που έγραψαν».
Αλήθεια, πώς είναι να συνεργάζεσαι με το Μάνο Χατζιδάκι και το Νίκο Γκάτσο; «Ήταν το μεγάλο σχολείο της ζωής μου, το σχολείο του σεβασμού και της
πειθαρχίας. Άκουγα και μάθαινα. Ο Νικος και ο Μάνος μού έδωσαν την ελληνική μουσική ταυτότητα του πολιτισμού μας».
Τι ήταν για εσάς η περίφημη «παρέα του Φλόκα», όπου βρεθήκατε ανάμεσα στον Μάνο Χατζιδάκι, τον Δημήτρη Χορν, τον Γιάννη Τσαρούχη; «Ήταν
το πανεπιστήμιο της ζωής μου. Όλα τα διπλώματα και τα ντοκτορά μου νομίζω
ότι τα πήρα από εκεί».
Με τη Μελίνα Μερκούρη ήσαστε φίλες. Πώς ήταν; «Η Μελίνα ήταν και παραμένει για εμένα μια απλησίαστη σταρ, που έλαμπε όπως η Μέρλιν Μονρόε, η Ίνγκριντ Μπέργκμαν και η Μάρλεν Ντίντριχ. Εκείνη την εποχή είχε ήδη το θαυμασμό όλων και ειδικά τον δικό μου. Ο Μάνος με σύστησε στη Μελίνα, όπως και
στην Αλίκη. Τη θαύμαζα και τη σεβόμουνα, με αποκαλούσε ή "μικρή τραγουδίστρια, η καινούργια". Πέρασαν τρία χρόνια για να βρω τη θέση μου δίπλα της και
να γίνουμε φίλες. Βλεπόμασταν στο περιβάλλον του Μάνου και του Νίκου. Εκείνες, μαζί με την Αλίκη, ήταν του θεάτρου και του κινηματογράφου και εγώ των
δίσκων και των clubs, τελικά, γίναμε φίλες, αλλά και αντίζηλες για τα τραγούδια
και την αγάπη του Μάνου. Με τη Μελίνα ήρθαμε πιο κοντά στο Παρίσι, επί χούντας, όπου ζούσε εξόριστη και συνεχίσαμε όταν έγινε υπουργός πολιτισμού».
Και ο Μάνος; «Ο Μάνος παραμένει για μένα ένας μεγάλος δάσκαλος, με τερά-

believe that anybody is born anything. Whatever you become in your life, you
become through the need to learn and the need to improve. It’s a daily struggle and hard work.
Do you remember the first music you listened to? I don’t remember exactly,
there were many voices: Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland and, of course, Maria Callas.
Where there people you admired from a young age and wanted to emulate?
Music made me happy, I wanted to sing because I was happy – I didn’t know anything else. I listened to many artists without making particular plans.
What was it like to collaborate with Manos Hadjidakis and Nikos Gatsos?
It was the greatest learning experience of my life, a school for respect and discipline. I listened and learned. Nikos and Manos gave me the Greek musical identity of our culture.
Tell us about being part of infamous “Floka crew”, with Manos Hadjidakis,
Dimitris Horn and Yiannis Tsarouhis. It was the university of my life. I think I got
all my degrees and doctorates there.
You were friends with Melina Mercouri.What was that like? Melina was and
will always be an inaccessible star, which shone as bright as Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman and Marlene Dietrich. When we met she had already earned everyone's admiration, and especially mine. Manos introduced me to Melina and
Aliki Vougiouklaki. I admired and respected her and she called the “little singer,
the new girl”. It took three years for me to find my place by her side and for us
to become friends. We would meet in the circle of Manos and Nikos. The theatre and the cinema were Melina and Aliki’s domain, while mine was records and
clubs. We grew into friends and rivals for the songs and love of Manos. Melina
and I became closer during the military junta, when she was living in exile in Paris
and again when she became Minister of Culture.
And Manos? For me, Manos will always be a great teacher, with tremendous musical inspiration. He was a special man, strict and proud, yet sensitive. The most
important Greek composer. And Nikos Gatsos is, I believe, our greatest poet.
Do you miss those days? They have become our country’s heritage and I promote
and respect them. I understand that life must evolve and that I must accept the
evolution, even if I find some things very annoying.
My favourite song is “Awake my Love”, but when you sing “Paper Moon”, you
do so with such emotion that your audience can’t but be swept away.What

Σας λείπει εκείνη η εποχή; «Είναι η κληρονομιά της χώρας μας και προσπαθώ
να την προωθώ και να τη σέβομαι. Καταλαβαίνω βέβαια ότι η ζωή εξελίσσεται και
δεν μπορώ παρά να το αποδεχθώ, ακόμη και αν κάποια πράγματα με ενοχλούν».
Το «Ξύπνα αγάπη μου» εξακολουθεί να είναι το αγαπημένο μου τραγούδι. Αλλά
όταν τραγουδάτε το «Χάρτινο το Φεγγαράκι», το λέτε με τέτοιο συναίσθημα,
που είναι αδύνατο στο κοινό που σας παρακολουθεί να μην παρασυρθεί. «Είναι δύο τραγούδια με διαφορετικό περιεχόμενο. Δεν μπορούν να συγκριθούν.
Το ένα είναι μια ευτυχισμένη πραγματικότητα και το άλλο μία συγκινητική, δυνατή
αλήθεια ενός ονείρου που προσπαθεί να γίνει πραγματικότητα. Κάτι σαν ευχή».
Ποια είναι τα χαρακτηριστικά ενός μεγάλου τραγουδιού; «Ότι μπορεί να συγκινήσει και να επηρεάσει πολλούς και καθέναν χωριστά, με τον τρόπο του».
Ακούγοντας ένα τραγούδι, είστε σε θέση να καταλάβετε αν θα γίνει μεγάλο;
«Όχι, καθόλου, το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι αν με συγκινεί και αν μπορώ να
το τραγουδήσω σωστά. Από εκεί και πέρα, το κοινό αποφασίζει».
Πότε πρέπει να αποσύρεται κάποιος; «Δεν υπάρχει όριο στη φωνή. Πρέπει
όμως να τη σέβεσαι και να την προστατεύεις. Πρέπει να αποσύρεται κάποιος όταν
πλέον δεν πιστεύει σε αυτό που κάνει, όποια δουλειά και αν κάνει».
Πιστεύετε ότι τα λάθη είναι πηγή γνώσης; «Απόλυτα. Όταν κάποιος μάθει να
ξεχωρίζει τις επιλογές του σε καλές και κακές και όταν αναγνωρίζει ότι είναι αυτός
υπεύθυνος για τα λάθη του, άρα και για την ίδια του τη ζωή και για το μέλλον του».
Εσείς τι λάθη έχετε κάνει; «Τα λάθη ήταν για μένα και από εμένα, τα αναγνώρισα
και στη ζωή μου είχα αποφασίσει να ακολουθώ την αλήθεια μου. Έτσι έφτασα έως
εδώ. Η αλήθεια μαθαίνεται και δεν μεταδίδεται, είναι μία προσωπική υπόθεση».
Έχετε διατελέσει ευρωβουλευτής. Για ποιο λόγο ασχοληθήκατε με την πολιτική; «Γιατί πίστεψα ότι μπορούσα να βοηθήσω τη χώρα μας».
Ανησυχείτε για το μέλλον της Ευρώπης; «Ανησυχώ πάντοτε για το μέλλον αλλά έχω απεριόριστη ελπίδα για το αύριο. Πιστεύω στην Ευρώπη, πιστεύω στην
ένωση και στην κατανόηση των διαφορετικών πολιτισμών. Ξέρετε, ο κόσμος μας
σέβεται και μας αγαπάει, απλώς πρέπει να τον αγαπήσουμε και εμείς».
Η κόρη σας, η Λενού, πότε αποφάσισε να ασχοληθεί με το τραγούδι; «Πριν από
δέκα χρόνια, προηγουμένως ασχολήθηκε με τον κινηματογράφο και το θέατρο».
Ποια ήταν η πρώτη αντίδρασή σας μόλις σας ανακοίνωσε την απόφασή της;
«Ήμουν πολύ περήφανη και αισθάνθηκα και την ανάλογη ευθύνη, αλλά η Λενού έχει πολύ καλή φωνή, αγαπά το τραγούδι και οι δυσκολίες δεν τη φοβίζουν».
Τι συμβουλές τής δίνετε; «Να ακολουθεί το ένστικτό της, να αναγνωρίζει και να
επιλέγει τον δικό της δρόμο. Η ζωή δεν κάνει δώρα και χρειάζεται πολλή δουλειά, ειλικρίνεια και αυτογνωσία».
Τι δεν πρέπει κάποιος να χάσει στη ζωή του καθώς μεγαλώνει; «Δεν πρέπει να
χάνει ποτέ τον ενθουσιασμό του. Πρέπει να έχει πάντα σεβασμό και να ανακαλύπτει με ενδιαφέρον ο,τιδήποτε καινούριο, να μην σταματήσει να μαθαίνει ποτέ. Πρέπει να έχει πάντα αισιοδοξία και να μην ξεχνά ότι ούτε η χαρά, ούτε η λύπη είναι παντοτινές, ότι όλα έχουν ένα τέλος».

is so special about that song? The two songs you mention are two songs with
completely different stories. They cannot be compared. One is a happy, beautiful reality and the other a poignant, powerful truth of a dream trying to become
a reality – a kind of blessing.

What makes a song great? When it touches and affects many people, and each
one in a unique way.
Can you tell if a song will become a hit just by listening to it? No, not at all.
I can only know if it moves me and if I can sing it well. Beyond that, it’s up to
the public.
Does a voice have an expiry date? When should one retire? There is no expiry date for the voice. But it must be respected and protected. One should retire
when they no longer believe in what they’re doing, a rule that applies to all jobs.
Do you think that mistakes are a source of knowledge? Absolutely. When
we learn how to differentiate between good and bad choices and when we
take responsibility for our mistakes, we are doing so for our own lives and future.
What mistakes have you made? My mistakes were mine and for me alone. I
recognised them and decided to follow my truth. That’s how I got here. Truth
must be learned and can’t be shared, it’s a personal matter.
You served as a Member of the European Parliament. Why did you get involved in politics? Because I believed I could help our country.
Are you worried about the future of Europe? I always worry about the future,
but I have a boundless hope for tomorrow. I believe in Europe, I believe in the
Union and in the understanding of different cultures. The world respects us and
loves us, but we have to love it back.
What angers you the most? Injustice, war, opportunistic ambition for power,
lack of humanity, laziness, cunning, malice and lies.
When did your daughter Lenou decide to start singing? Ten years ago, after
working for several years in the cinema and theatre.
What was your reaction when she announced her decision? I was very proud
of her and felt some responsibility. But Lenou has a very good voice, loves music
and is courageous. She isn’t frightened of facing difficulties head on.
What advice did you give her? To follow her instinct, to find and choose her
own path. Life doesn’t hand out gifts and it takes a lot of work, honesty and selfawareness to succeed.
What should one hold on to as they get older? We must never lose our enthusiasm, the honesty of youth and spontaneity. We must always respect and
explore anything new with interest, and never stop learning. We should always
be optimistic and never forget that neither joy nor sorrow is eternal, that everything eventually comes to an end.

αλώς ήρθατε στην Ελλάδα. Τι σας φέρνει στη χώρα μας; «Διακοπές και μόνο διακοπές. Έρχομαι στην Ελλάδα πολλά χρόνια διότι έχω πολλούς Έλληνες φίλους στο Παρίσι. Από τα ελληνικά νησιά αγαπώ τη
Φολέγανδρο και τη Νάξο για το μοναδικό δάσος της από κέδρους. Αλλά φέτος,
θα πάμε στην Πάρο για ξεκούραση».
Welcome to Greece! What brings you to our country? Holidays and only
holidays. I’ve been coming to Greece for years as I have many Greek friends
in Paris. I love the Greek islands, especially Folegandros and Naxos, which has
a unique cedar forest. This year, however, we’re going to Paros for some rest
and relaxation.
Είχατε κουραστική χρονιά; «Ναι, και ιδιαίτερα κουραστική Άνοιξη. Έκανα τρία
πράγματα που απαιτούσαν μεγάλη κατανάλωση ενέργειας και προσοχής. Σκηνοθέτησα το πρώτο μου ντοκιμαντέρ στην Αϊτή -όπου πέρσι ήμουν καλεσμένος
των Ηνωμένων Εθνών- για ένα πρότζεκτ όπου ηθοποιοί και σκηνοθέτες γυρίζουν κάποια 25λεπτα φιλμ σε χώρες της επιλογής τους. Έχασα τον ύπνο μου για
ημέρες, γύριζα σκηνές με ντόπιους ανθρώπους να συζητούν μαζί μου στα σπίτια τους και αποτύπωνα τη ζωή εκεί. Έκανα επίσης προώθηση στη γαλλική κωμωδία “Barbeque”, στην οποία συμμετέχω και που είχε μεγάλη επιτυχία στη Γαλλία. Έχει να κάνει με τον μεσογειακό πολιτισμό, το φαγητό, τους φίλους, τις συζητήσεις, τις φιλικές αντιπαραθέσεις στο τραπέζι. Παράλληλα, ολοκλήρωσα 18
παραστάσεις του μιούζικαλ “O βασιλιάς και εγώ” στην Όπερα της Γαλλίας μαζί
με τη σοπράνο Susan Gran».
Has it been a tiring year? Yes, and the spring was particularly busy. I had three
projects that required a high energy level and attention to detail. I directed my
first ever documentary on Haiti – I’d been invited there last year by the United Nations – for a project where actors and directors shot 25-minute films in
the countries of their choice. I didn’t sleep for days, shooting scenes with the
locals, who spoke to me in their homes about their lives. I also promoted the
French film Barbeque, which was very successful in France. It’s about Mediterranean culture, food, friends, discussions and friendly debates around the
table. And I appeared in 18 performances of "The King and I" at the Opera in
France with soprano Susan Gran.
Είστε πολυτάλαντος καλλιτέχνης. Υπάρχει κάτι που λείπει από τη συλλογή
σας επαγγελματικά; «Δεν ξέρω, έχω σκηνοθετήσει θεατρικές παραστάσεις αλλά όχι ταινία, είναι κάτι που επιθυμώ να κάνω, αλλά έχω δυσκολία στη δημιουργία σεναρίου, διότι είμαι ονειροπόλος και μου είναι δύσκολο να κάτσω σε ένα
γραφείο και να αρχίσω να γράφω. Αυτή για εμένα είναι η δυσκολία του κινηματογράφου, η επινόηση».

You’re a multi-talented artist. Is there anything missing in your professional
life? I’m not sure. I’ve directed plays but not films and I’d like to have the opportunity to do so. However, writing the script is difficult as I’m a dreamer and
find it burdensome to sit down at a desk and start writing. Conception, that’s
what I find challenging in cinema.
Is it true that you studied in London because you wanted to become an
English-speaking actor? I wanted to speak English, but longed to become an
American star. When I was 15 or 16, Robert Redford was my hero. I wanted to
be classically trained in England because I had enormous respect for British actors. My father was a theatre producer and actor, so I learned from a very young
age that actors needed strict training, and the best place to train was in London.
Ήθελα να έχω μια κλασσική εκπαίδευση στην Αγγλία επειδή οι ηθοποιοί, για τους
οποίους έτρεφα τεράστιο σεβασμό, ήταν Άγγλοι. Επειδή ο μπαμπάς μου ήταν θεατρικός παραγωγός και ηθοποιός, από μικρός έμαθα πως οι ηθοποιοί χρειάζονται
πολύ σκληρή εκπαίδευση. Έτσι, το καλύτερο μέρος για αυτό, ήταν το Λονδίνο».
Ποιες είναι οι διαφορές μεταξύ του γαλλικού και του ανεξάρτητου αμερικανικού κινηματογράφου και του Hollywood; «H μεγαλύτερη ρεαλιστική διαφορά μεταξύ του Hollywood και των άλλων παραγωγών είναι ο χρόνος στο studio.
Έντονη διαφορά επίσης, ίσως η κυριότερη, είναι η θεματολογία. Στο Hollywood,
το γύρισμα έχει σαν στόχο την ψυχαγωγία και έχει διαφημιστικό χαρακτήρα.
Προωθούν κάτι που πρέπει να έχει φοβερή απήχηση στο παγκόσμιο ευρύ κοινό. Οι γαλλικές και ανεξάρτητες αμερικανικές ταινίες σχετίζονται περισσότερο
με φιλοσοφικά ζητήματα, βιώματα και το όραμα που έχει ο καθένας για τη ζωή.
Για αυτό και μου αρέσουν περισσότερο».
Ζήσατε όμως και την εμπειρία του εμπορικού Hollywood. «Ήμουν τυχερός,
διότι χάρη στα Matrix 2 και 3, ένιωσα το συναίσθημα συμμετοχής σε μια τεράστια
χολιγουντιανή παραγωγή. Όμως δυσκολευόμουν να βρω την ταυτότητα της ταινίας καθώς συνεχώς θυσιάζεται στο χρήμα και στο τέλος ισοδυναμεί και με την
απώλεια της ίδιας της ψυχής σου. Εγώ είμαι ακόμη παθιασμένος με το Αμερικανικό σινεμά και τους σκηνοθέτες που αντιπροσωπεύουν και προβάλλουν την Αμερική της δεκαετίας του ‘70. Όταν επισκέπτομαι πόλεις όπως το Λος Άντζελες,
αρρωσταίνω. Οι άνθρωποι παθιάζονται με τις σειρές και πολλοί ηθοποιοί πλουτίζουν χάρη σε αυτό το πάθος, αλλά εγώ νιώθω ότι κάτι τέτοιο θα με “στοίχειωνε”. Ίσως επειδή σιχαίνομαι να ξέρω τι θα γίνει στην ζωή μου σε διάστημα 6 μηνών. Είμαι λάτρης του απρόβλεπτου και εχθρός του μακροπρόθεσμου “πρέπει”».
Γιατί αυτοαποκαλείστε «κοινωνικός ερημίτης»; «Γιατί χρειάζομαι τους ανθρώπους δίπλα μου, όμως δεν μπορώ να ενταχθώ σε μια παρέα, σε μια ομάδα. Θέλω να βλέπω ότι η παρέα δεν είναι μακριά, να παρατηρώ όλη την τρέλα που την
περιβάλλει, αλλά πρέπει να μπορώ και να απομακρυνθώ από αυτήν όταν νιώσω
την ανάγκη. Έτσι ακριβώς είμαι και με τους φίλους μου. Μου αρέσει να μαζευόμαστε, αλλά όταν συγκεντρωνόμαστε, απομακρύνομαι, αποσύρομαι. Ακριβώς
έτσι ήμουν και στο σχολείο. Πάντα ήμουν μακριά από τη μάζα. Νομίζω πως δεν
υπάρχει μεγαλύτερη χαρά για μένα από το να παρατηρώ το πλήθος. Δεν υπάρχει
τίποτα καλύτερο για μένα από ένα απόγευμα σε ένα καφέ σε ρόλο παρατηρητή».
Αυτόν τον ρόλο του παρατηρητή μπορείτε να τον έχετε και στη Γαλλία; «Είναι δύσκολο στη Γαλλία λόγω της αναγνωρισιμότητας. Εκεί όλα πάνε λάθος! Οι
Γάλλοι, φέρονται ανόητα, όταν με βλέπουν. Ξαφνικά, νιώθω πως μετατρέπομαι
σε αντικείμενο, που το φωνάζουν και με λάθος όνομα διότι το όνομά μου πάντα
τους μπέρδευε. Το θεωρούν επίθετο, ακόμη και εάν γνωρίζουν τις ταινίες μου».
Σας ενοχλεί αυτό; «Όχι, μερικές φορές μόνο. Όταν σκέφτομαι πως είμαι 35
χρόνια ηθοποιός και εάν πραγματικά σου αρέσω, γιατί είναι τόσο δύσκολο να
αποστηθίσεις το όνομά μου; Δεν τους κατηγορώ ωστόσο, γιατί τα ίδια παθαίνω
και εγώ με τους Γάλλους ηθοποιούς».
Αλήθεια, ποια είναι η σχέση σας με τον χρόνο; «Είναι μια εμμονική σχέση. Έχω
εμμονή με το χρόνο που περνά και την αποτύπωσή του επάνω μας. Μερικές φορές, αποφεύγω συνειδητά να κοιτάξω το ρολόι μου, γιατί ο χρόνος που πέρασε
δεν θα εμφανιστεί ποτέ ξανά. Ωστόσο, με το πέρασμα των χρόνων, η δουλειά
μου γίνεται ολοένα και πιο ενδιαφέρουσα, γιατί το διάστημα μεταξύ 40-50 για τους
άνδρες ηθοποιούς που βρίσκονται στο προσκήνιο είναι ευεργετικό και οι προτάσεις είναι εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρουσες. Όμως, έχω θέμα με την υπερβολική ηλικία. Φοβάμαι για την προσωπική μου εικόνα στα γεράματα, εάν δεν υλοποιήσω
τα όνειρά μου και δεν έχω τότε, τη ζωή που θέλω. Ως ηθοποιοί παρακολουθούμε τους εαυτούς μας στις ταινίες, πράγμα φοβερά περίεργο. Όταν βλέπεις τον

What are the differences between the French cinema, American independent
films and Hollywood? The biggest practical difference between Hollywood and
other productions is studio time. Another marked difference, and perhaps the
most significant one, is the theme. In Hollywood, the goal is to entertain and
promote. They promote things that have an incredible impact on the global public.
The French and American independent cinema deal with more philosophical
issues, experiences and one’s vision of life. That’s why I like them better.
But you also experienced commercial Hollywood. Thanks to the Matrix 2
and 3, I was fortunate enough to participate in a huge Hollywood production.
But it was difficult to determine the identity of the film as it was constantly being sacrificed for money, which in the end is like sacrificing your soul. I’m still
obsessed with American cinema and directors who favour representations of
1970s America. I feel ill when visiting cities like Los Angeles. People become
obsessed with TV series and many actors become rich as a result. I would be
“haunted” if I were one of them – perhaps because I abhor knowing exactly
what my life will be for the next six months. I adore the unforeseen and am
an antagonist of the abiding “must”.
Why do you refer to yourself as a “social recluse”? Because I need to have
people around me, but find it impossible to join a group or team. I like knowing that the group isn’t far away, observing the madness it entails, and being
able to distance myself when I feel the need. And that is exactly how I am with
my friends. I like getting together with them, but when we do, I remove myself, retire. It was also like that in school. I was always separate from the mass.
Nothing gives me greater pleasure than observing the crowd. I like nothing
better than spending the afternoon in a café, playing the role of the observer.
Is that a role you play in France as well? It’s difficult in France because I’m so
often recognised. And things go terribly awry when that happens! The French
behave ludicrously when they see me. I suddenly feel as though I’ve turned into an object that is referred to incorrectly as my name always confuses them.
They treat it like a surname, even if they know my films.
Does that bother you? Not as a rule, only sometimes – when I remember
that I’ve been acting for 35 years. If you really like me, why can’t you get my
name right? I don’t blame them though, because it happens to me with French
actors’ names.
And what kind of relationship do you have with time? It’s an obsessive one.
I’m obsessed with the passage of time and the effect it has on us. I sometimes
consciously avoid looking at my watch because the time that has passed will
never return. However, my work has become increasingly interesting over
the years, as the decade between 40 and 50 is a constructive one for male
actors and offers are extremely interesting. Nonetheless, I have an issue with
extremely advanced years. I’m worried about my personal image when I get
old, especially I don’t fulfil my dreams and am not living the life I want. As actors, we watch ourselves in films, which is very strange. Seeing yourself aging
gradually on an enormous screen is an incredibly awful experience. It does
make you a better person though, because you shed your narcissism and enthusiasm for yourself.
And how did you feel as a young actor? I was quite the Narcissist when I was
younger, with many hang-ups. I felt that it was an achievement to be a handsome young man. Hence, I was more concerned with my appearance than acting, which didn’t help me improve in my work. Growing older has made me a
better actor and I only have respect for the work I’ve done in the past 10 years.

και την ευχαρίστηση στη δουλειά και όχι τη δόξα. Το παν είναι να κρατάς ισορροπίες και να γνωρίζεις τον εαυτό σου».
Do you have a secret dream? To become a recluse when I grow old. To buy a
small house by the sea, with a veranda and a bench that I will sit on and watch
the world go by. I believe that when you’ve bought houses and done a lot of
travelling, you ultimately crave sun, sea and people watching - the very things
I like most of all about Greece.

Και όταν ήσαστε νέος ηθοποιός, πώς νιώθατε για τον εαυτό σας; «Ήμουν μεγάλος Νάρκισσος όταν ήμουν νεότερος και γεμάτος κόμπλεξ. Ήταν σαν κατόρθωμα για εμένα να είμαι ένας πολύ ωραίος νέος. Έτσι ένιωθα πως με απασχολούσε περισσότερο η εμφάνιση από την ηθοποιία, κάτι που σαφώς δεν με έκανε καλύτερο στη δουλειά μου. Το γήρας με βελτίωσε ως ηθοποιό και για αυτό, η
δουλειά μου των τελευταίων 10 χρόνων είναι η μόνη που σέβομαι».
And your international career? Fortunately for me, it didn’t work out, because
it goes hand in hand with exhaustion and unhappiness. Having a comfortable
life is very nice, as is being approached by people who have followed your career. These days, I’m seeking depth and satisfaction in my work and not glory. Maintaining a balance and knowing yourself are of the utmost importance.

As the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) nears its
completion, the Visitors Center is offering an ever-growing number of activities,
all of which are designed to reflect, as always, the new landscape being created
at the Delta of Faliron.

ργαστήρια 3D printing, διαλέξεις, πολυαισθητικά εργαστήρια και πολλές άλλες καλλιτεχνικές δραστηριότητες συνθέτουν ένα πρόγραμμα, το οποίο, με βάση το Κέντρο Επισκεπτών, αποσκοπεί σε ένα δημιουργικό διάλογο των επισκεπτών με το έργο και, κατ’ επέκταση, στη διαμόρφωση του
μελλοντικού χαρακτήρα του ΚΠΙΣΝ. Έκθεση αρχιτεκτονικής φωτογραφίας και
διάλεξη του Γιώργη Γερόλυμπου (21/11), εργαστήριο κόμικς με έμπνευση από
τον Doctor Who (23/11), η παιδική χορωδία Polyphonica (21/12) είναι μόνο μερικές από τις δράσεις πολιτισμού και εκπαίδευσης που θα πραγματοποιηθούν
στο Κέντρο Επισκεπτών μέχρι τον Δεκέμβριο 2014.
Επιπλέον, σε συνεργασία με την Εθνική Βιβλιοθήκη της Ελλάδος (ΕΒΕ), το CERN
επεκτείνει τις δραστηριότητές του για τον εορτασμό της 60ής επετείου του, με
επιστημονικές ομιλίες στο αναγνωστήριο της ΕΒΕ (22/10), αλλά και στο Κέντρο
Επισκεπτών (14/10 & 17/10).
Τέλος, συνεχίζονται τα εξαιρετικά δημοφιλή σε επαγγελματίες, ακαδημαϊκούς
και φοιτητές τεχνικά σεμινάρια για τις αρχιτεκτονικές, κατασκευαστικές και άλλες
καινοτομίες του έργου, ενώ η Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή πυκνώνει την παρουσία της
με τις εβδομαδιαίες πλέον συναυλίες «τσέπης» αλλά και μία σειρά
άλλων δραστηριοτήτων.
3D printing workshops, lectures, multisensory workshops and many
other artistic activities comprise a program that, using the Visitors Center as its
base, is aimed at engaging visitors in a creative dialogue with the project and, by
extension, at shaping the future character of the SNFCC. An architectural photography exhibition and lecture by Yiorgis Yerolymbos (21/11), a comics workshop inspired by Doctor Who (23/11), the children’s choir Polyphonica (21/12)
are only a few of the cultural and educational events which are taking place until
December 2014 at the Visitors Center.
In addition, CERN, in collaboration with the National Library of Greece (NLG),
is expanding its activities in celebration of its 60th anniversary, with scientific lectures at the NLG main Reading Room and the Visitors Center.
Finally, the technical seminars on the architectural, constructural and other innovative aspects of the project, which have proven exceptionally popular among
professionals, academics and students, continue, while the Greek National Opera builds up its presence even further, with its “pocket” concerts now offered
weekly, as well as a range of other activities.

ναφιώτικα Νεοκλασικά, ιστορικά, διατηρητέα κτήρια: τα κτήρια της συνοικίας που βρίσκεται στη σκιά της Ακρόπολης,
αποτελούν κομμάτι της ιστορίας της Αθήνας. Το καλύτερο ίσως σημείο τους,
βρίσκεται προς το τέλος της διαδρομής που οδηγεί σε αυτά, εκεί όπου μερικά
ασβεστωμένα σκαλοπάτια οδηγούν σε ένα ψηλό σημείο της περιοχής. Από εκεί,
η θέα είναι μαγική, καθώς φαίνεται ολόκληρο το λεκανοπέδιο. Πρόκειται για μια
μικρογραφία νησιού του Αιγαίου, όπου συναντάς ακόμη ασβεστωμένες αυλές,
χρωματιστά παραθυρόφυλλα και βουκαμβίλιες. Ο οικισμός κατάφερε να επιζήσει
σχεδόν αναλλοίωτος μέσα στο χρόνο, καθώς η ανακήρυξη των Αναφιώτικων ως
διατηρητέου ιστορικού οικισμού, έσωσε τα 45 κτίσματα που υπάρχουν σήμερα.
Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης Το νέο Μουσείο Ακρόπολης κτίσθηκε για να
στεγάσει κάθε αντικείμενο που έχει βρεθεί πάνω στο βράχο της Ακρόπολης και
στους πρόποδές του, καλύπτοντας μια ευρεία χρονική περίοδο, από τη Μυκηναϊκή μέχρι τη Ρωμαϊκή και Παλαιοχριστιανική Αθήνα, ενώ ταυτόχρονα, βρίσκεται πάνω στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο Μακρυγιάννη, κατάλοιπο της Ρωμαϊκής και
πρώιμης Βυζαντινής Αθήνας. Πρόκειται για ένα σύγχρονο και πανέμορφο κτήριο, από τα πιο σημαντικά έργα σύγχρονης αρχιτεκτονικής στην Αθήνα. Ο τελευταίος όροφος (αίθουσα Παρθενώνα) έχει τις διαστάσεις και τη διεύθυνση του
Παρθενώνα και είναι περιεστρεμμένος κατά 23 μοίρες σε σχέση με το υπόλοιπο κτήριο, για να έχει ο επισκέπτης απευθείας οπτική επαφή με το μνημείο. Στο
Μουσείο δεσπόζουν η ζωφόρος του Παρθενώνα, οι Καρυάτιδες του Ερεχθείου και τα διάσημα γλυπτά της αρχαϊκής εποχής και του χρυσού αιώνα του Περικλέους. Η διεκδίκηση της επιστροφής των μαρμάρων του Παρθενώνα αποκτά
νέα διάσταση μετά την ανέγερση του νέου Μουσείου Ακρόπολης. Τα μάρμαρα
διακοσμούσαν αρχικά τον Παρθενώνα κι άλλα κτήρια της Ακρόπολης και αντιπροσωπεύουν περισσότερα από τα μισά των γλυπτών διακοσμήσεων της ιστορικής τοποθεσίας. Αφαιρέθηκαν στις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα και η επιστροφή
τους υπήρξε σημαντικό θέμα για τις ελληνικές κυβερνήσεις για πολλά χρόνια.

Anafiotika Neoclassical, historic, listed buildings: the buildings of the settlement located in the shadow of the Acropolis are a part of the history of
Athens. The best section of Anafiotika is found at the end of the route leading into it, where a few whitewashed steps lead to a high point. From there,
the view is magical, as the entire Attica “basin” is visible. It is a miniature of
an Aegean island, with whitewashed courtyards, colourful shutters and bougainvillea. The settlement has remained practically unaltered through time,
since Anafiotika was listed as a historic settlement, saving the 45 buildings
still standing today.
Acropolis Museum The new Acropolis Museum was built to house
every object found on the Acropolis and its foothills, covering a broad period from the Mycenaean era to the Roman and Early Christian Athens. It
is a beautiful and modern building, and one of the most important examples of contemporary architecture in Athens. The top floor (the Parthenon
Room) was constructed in the dimensions of the Parthenon and is rotated
23 degrees relative to the rest of the building, so visitors will have direct visual contact with the monument. The Museum is dominated by the frieze of
the Parthenon, the Caryatids of the Erechtheion and famous sculptures of
the Archaic Period and the Golden Age of Pericles. The quest for the return
of the Parthenon Marbles acquired a new dimension after the completion of
the new Acropolis Museum. The marbles originally decorated the Parthenon
and other buildings of the Acropolis and represent over half the sculptural
decoration of the historic site. They were removed in the early 19th century and their return has remained an important issue for the Greek government. www.theacropolismuseum.gr

Αυθεντικός Μαραθώνιος της Αθήνας Ο Αυθεντικός Μαραθώνιος της Αθήνας έχει προνόμιο και μοναδική θέση στο διεθνές γίγνεσθαι, καθώς
διεξάγεται στην αυθεντική Ολυμπιακή Μαραθώνια Διαδρομή, όπως αποκαλείται. Δεν είναι απλά ένας κλασικός μαραθώνιος των 42.195 μ., αλλά μια διαδρομή
που ξεκινά από τον Μαραθώνα, περνά ακριβώς δίπλα από τον Τύμβο και διατρέχοντας μια σειρά δήμων της Αττικής γης καταλήγει στο υπέροχο μαρμάρινο
στάδιο των Πρώτων Σύγχρονων Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του 1896, το Παναθηναϊκό Στάδιο. Ο Αυθεντικός Μαραθώνιος θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 9-11-2014.
Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο είναι το μεγαλύτερο μουσείο της Ελλάδας και ένα από τα σημαντικότερα του κόσμου. Με αρχικό προορισμό να δεχθεί το σύνολο των ευρημάτων από ανασκαφές του 19ου
αιώνα, κυρίως από την Αττική, αλλά και από άλλες περιοχές της χώρας, σταδιακά

Authentic Athens Marathon The Authentic Athens Marathon retains a privileged and unique position in the international marathon calendar:
it is held on the so-called authentic Olympian Marathon Route. It isn’t simply a 42,195-metre classical marathon, but a route that begins in Marathon,
runs alongside the tomb and through several municipalities of Attica, finishing at the Panathenaic Stadium, the spectacular marble stadium where the
first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. The Authentic Marathon

Archaeological Museum The National Archaeological Museum is
the largest museum in Greece and one of the most important in the world.
Its initial purpose was to secure all the finds from the excavations of the
19th century, mainly in Attica, but also from other parts of the country. It
gradually became the central National Archaeological Museum and was

Αρχαία Αγορά H Αρχαία Αγορά ήταν η καρδιά της αρχαίας Αθήνας, το κέντρο της δημόσιας ζωής των Αθηναίων στους αρχαίους χρόνους. Ήταν το εμπορικό, πολιτικό, φιλοσοφικό, πολιτιστικό και θρησκευτικό κέντρο της πόλης. Εδώ
ρίζωσε το δημοκρατικό πολίτευμα υπό την καθοδήγηση του Σόλωνα, του Κλεισθένη και του Περικλή. Εδώ επίσης δίδαξαν φιλόσοφοι όπως ο Σωκράτης και ο
Πλάτωνας, ενώ στα γειτονικά εργαστήρια τεχνίτες δημιούργησαν μερικά από τα
αριστουργήματα της κλασικής γλυπτικής, αρχιτεκτονικής, ζωγραφικής και κεραμικής. Τα ευρήματα δείχνουν ότι χρησιμοποιήθηκε σε όλες τις ιστορικές περιόδους από τους κλασικούς χρόνους μέχρι τον 11ο αιώνα. Η αρχαιολογική σκαπάνη έχει εντοπίσει και αναδείξει το Βουλευτήριο, τη Θόλο, το Νομισματοκοπείο, το Μητρώο, τα δικαστήρια και άλλα δημόσια κτήρια. Υπήρχαν ακόμα ναοί,
βωμοί, βιβλιοθήκη, ωδείο, δημόσια λουτρά, κουρεία, αρωματοπωλεία, εργαστήρια
χαλκού, μαρμάρου, δέρματος, υποδηματοποιεία, κεραμοποιεία και πλήθος καταστημάτων που εμπορεύονταν τρόφιμα, κρασιά, είδη καλλωπισμού και ένδυσης.
Αστεροσκοπείο Εγκαινιάσθηκε το 1846 με δωρεά του Γεωργίου Σίνα και
δημιουργήθηκε βάσει σχεδίων του Δανού αρχιτέκτονα Θεόφιλου Χάνσεν. Η
επιλογή της τοποθεσίας του στον Λόφο των Νυμφών (αντί του αρχικά προταθέντος Λυκαβηττού) συνδέεται με τον θρύλο ότι από το σημείο εκείνο έκανε τις
παρατηρήσεις του ο Αθηναίος αστρονόμος Μέτων, κατά τον 5ο αιώνα π.Χ. Από
τον υπαίθριο χώρο οι επισκέπτες έχουν την ευκαιρία να θαυμάσουν τη θέα της

It was there that democratic policy took root, under the guidance of Solon,
Cleisthenes and Pericles. It was there that philosophers like Socrates and
Plato taught, while craftsmen created some of the masterpieces of classical sculpture, architecture, painting and pottery in the neighbouring workshops. Findings show that it was used in all historical periods from the classical times to the 11th century. Archaeological excavation has unearthed and
identified the parliament, the dome, the mint, the registry, the courts and
other public buildings. There were also temples, altars, a library, conservatory, public baths, barber shops, perfumeries, copper, marble, leather, shoemaking and pottery workshops, as well as numerous shops trading in food,
wine, cosmetics and clothing.
Athens Observatory The Observatory was inaugurated in 1846 with a
donation by Georgios Sina and designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen. The decision to place it on the Hill of the Nymphs (rather than the initially proposed Lycabettus Hill) is associated with a legend that the Athenian astronomer Meton made his observations from that very location in the
5th century B.C. Visitors enjoy a unique perspective of the Acropolis from

ότε ξεκινήσατε τους δρόμους υπεραποστάσεων; «Ξεκίνησα να γυρνώ στο σπίτι από το νηπιαγωγείο τρέχοντας, όταν ήμουν
μόλις έξι χρονών. Ήμουν το μεγαλύτερο παιδί της οικογένειας και όταν γεννήθηκε η πιο μικρή μου αδελφή, η μαμά μου άρχισε να δυσκολεύεται να με γυρίζει
από το σχολείο. Έτσι ξεκίνησα να επιστρέφω τρέχοντας, ώστε να τη βοηθήσω
ελαφρύνοντας την πίεση που ένιωθε. Έτρεχα σε αγώνες καθόλη τη διάρκεια της
πρώτης Λυκείου και μετά, σταμάτησα το τρέξιμο εντελώς. Χρόνια μετά, το βράδυ των 30ων γενεθλίων μου, βρέθηκα σε ένα κλαμπ με μερικούς φίλους γιορτάζοντας τα γενέθλιά μου με πολύ αλκοόλ. Ξαφνικά, ένιωσα μια πρωτόγονη παρόρμηση να φύγω. “Τι;” με ρώτησαν, “Είναι μόνο έντεκα, ας πιούμε άλλο ένα σφηνάκι”. Αντί γι’ αυτό, βγήκα από το κλαμπ και έτρεξα 30 μίλια, για να γιορτάσω τα
30α μου γενέθλια. Έτρεξα όλη τη νύχτα και ήταν η πρώτη φορά που έτρεχα σε
περισσότερο από μια δεκαετία. Σχεδόν με σκότωσε, αλλά συνέχισα. Το τρέξιμο
αυτό άλλαξε την πορεία της ζωής μου για πάντα».
Πόσο συχνά προπονείσθε; «Κάθε μέρα. Όλη μου η ζωή είναι αφιερωμένη στην
προπόνηση, είτε είναι μέσω του τρεξίματος, της σωστής δίαιτας και διατροφής,
είτε με τα βάρη στο γυμναστήριο, τη γιόγκα ή το σερφ. Δεν περνά μέρα που δεν
προπονούμαι όσο πιο σκληρά μπορώ».
Περίπου πόσα παπούτσια τρεξίματος χρειάζεστε το χρόνο; «Πέρσι, χρειάστηκα περίπου πενήντα ζευγάρια. Κάνω δοκιμή παπουτσιών για τον σπόνσορα
μου, την εταιρία The North Face, και πολλά από τα παπούτσια μου είναι τα πρωτότυπα των μοντέλων που προορίζονται για μελλοντική ανάπτυξη. Και επίσης, καταναλώνω περίπου πενήντα ζευγάρια αθλητικές κάλτσες κάθε χρόνο».
Έχετε κάποια ιεροτελεστία πριν από κάθε αγώνα; «Η ιεροτελεστία που έχω είναι η δέσμευση προς τον εαυτό μου να κάνω το καλύτερο που μπορώ εκείνη την
ημέρα. Δεν μπορείς να ελέγξεις τον καιρό, δεν μπορείς να ελέγξεις τους συναθλητές σου και δεν μπορείς να ελέγξεις τις δυσκολίες που ίσως να συναντήσεις
κατά τη διάρκεια του αγώνα. Το μόνο που μπορείς να κάνεις είναι να ελέγξεις τον
εαυτό σου και, πριν από κάθε αγώνα, δεσμεύομαι προς τον εαυτό μου ότι θα είμαι ο καλύτερος Κώστας που μπορώ».
Τι κίνητρο είχατε να τρέξετε στο Σπάρταθλον, έναν ιστορικό υπερμαραθώνιο και μια από τις μεγαλύτερες προκλήσεις του είδους; «Το Σπάρταθλον είναι ένας αγώνας που έχω ονειρευτεί να κάνω εδώ και πολλά χρόνια. Αν και έχω
τρέξει σε πολλούς άλλους εξαντλητικούς αγώνες, όπως το ότι ολοκλήρωσα 50
μαραθωνίους και στις 50 πολιτείες των ΗΠΑ, σε 50 διαδοχικές μέρες, το Σπάρταθλον είναι αυτό που πάντα συγκινούσε την ψυχή μου».
Ποιο είναι το μήνυμα που επιθυμείτε να στείλετε τρέχοντας στο Σπάρταθλον;
«Πως εμείς οι Έλληνες είχαμε ανέκαθεν το τρέξιμο στο αίμα μας. Ο Δυτικός πολιτισμός, όπως τον ξέρουμε τώρα, επηρεάστηκε έντονα από το κατόρθωμα του
Φειδιππίδη. Εάν δεν είχε καταφέρει να φτάσει στην Σπάρτη και να ξεσηκώσει
τους Σπαρτιάτες να πολεμήσουν ενάντια στον εισβάλλοντα Περσικό στρατό, ο
κόσμος θα μπορούσε κάλλιστα να είναι πολύ διαφορετικός. Ο Ουίνστον Τσόρτσιλ το έθεσε καλύτερα από όλους, “Οι Έλληνες δεν πολεμούν σαν ήρωες, οι
ήρωες πολεμούν σαν Έλληνες”».
Είπατε πως θα τρέξετε στο Σπάρταθλον καταναλώνοντας μόνον τις τροφές
και τα ποτά που θα ήταν διαθέσιμα στον Φειδιππίδη, δυόμιση χιλιάδες χρό-

When did you take up ultra distance running? I first started running home from
kindergarten when I was just six-years old. I was the oldest child in the family and
when my youngest sister arrived, my mom began having a tough time getting me
home from school, so I started running home instead to help alleviate the pressure on her. I ran competitively through my freshman year of high school and then
stopped running entirely. Flash-forward to the night of my 30th birthday when I
found myself in a nightclub with some friends celebrating my birthday by drinking lots of alcohol. I suddenly felt this primitive urge to leave. “What?” they asked,
“It’s only 11 o’clock. Let’s have another shot of booze.” Instead, I walked out of
the club and ran 30-miles to celebrate my 30th birthday. I ran straight through
the night and it was the first time I’d run in over a decade. It almost killed me, but
I kept going. That run forever changed the course of my life.
How often do you do training? Everyday. My entire life is dedicated to training,
whether that be through running, proper diet and nutrition, weight training in the
gym, yoga or surfing. There is never a day I do not train my hardest.
About how many pairs of running shoes do you need every year? Last year
it was about fifty pairs. I do footwear testing for my sponsor, The North Face,
and many of my shoes are prototypes that are in future development. I also go
through about fifty pairs of athletic socks every year.
Do you have any pre-race rituals? The ritual I have is a commitment to myself
to be the very best that I can be on that day. You cannot control the weather,
you cannot control the other competitors and you cannot control the hardships
you may encounter during the race. All that you can control is yourself and before every race I commit to myself that I will be the best Kostas that Kostas can be.
What was your motivation for running Spartathlon, a historic ultramarathon
and one of the most challenging of its kind? The Spartathlon is a race that I
have dreamed of doing for many years. While I have running in many other gruelling contests, like completing 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days, it is the Spartathlon that has always captured my spirit.
What is the message you wish to send running Spartathlon? That we Greeks
have had running in our blood since the beginning of time. Western culture, as
we know it today, was influenced heavily by the accomplishment of Pheidippides. Had he not succeeded in his quest to reach Sparta and recruit the Spartans
into battle against the invading Persian army, the world may very well be a different place. Winston Churchill said it best, “Greeks don’t fight like heroes, heroes fight like Greeks.”
You said that you will be running Spartathlon consuming only the foods and
drink that would have been available to Pheidippides two and half thousand
years ago. Is it true? Yes. I will be attempting to complete the marathon using only those ancient foods that Pheidippides would have had access to during the original Athens to Sparta run (e.g., a paste consisting of ground sesame
seeds and honey, dried figs, cured meat, olives and nuts). I will also be drinking only plain water, not sports drink, in my best attempt to recreate the original feat as best as possible. As you can imagine, I am both excited and anxious
for this endeavour and have been training hard in these ancient ways. Being of
Greek ancestry, the route of the Spartathlon passes nearby the village of my

αθλητικά ποτά, προσπαθώντας να αναπαραστήσω το αρχικό κατόρθωμα όσο
γίνεται καλύτερα. Όπως μπορείτε να φανταστείτε, είμαι ταυτόχρονα ενθουσιασμένος, αλλά και ανήσυχος για αυτήν την προσπάθεια και προπονούμαι εδώ και
καιρό στις συνθήκες της αρχαιότητας. Η διαδρομή του Σπάρταθλου περνά κοντά από το χωριό των προγόνων μου και ελπίζω να βιώσω μερικά από τα συναισθήματα που θα βίωσε ο Φειδιππίδης πριν από 2.500 χρόνια. Ο αγώνας θα είναι το θέμα του επερχόμενου βιβλίου μου από τον εκδοτικό οίκο Rodale Press,
που εκδίδει τα περιοδικά Runner’s World και Men’s Health and Prevention και
θέλω να στρέψω τους προβολείς προς την Ελλάδα, προς την ιστορική σημασία
του Σπάρταθλου και τον θρίαμβο του Φειδιππίδη».
Πιστεύετε πως υπάρχει όριο στο πόσο μπορεί ένας άνθρωπος να τρέξει συνεχόμενα; «Πιστεύω πως το όριο οφείλεται μόνο στην έλλειψη ύπνου. Κάποτε,
μπόρεσα να τρέξω 567 χλμ. χωρίς ξεκούραση, αλλά τρεις άυπνες νύχτες τελικά
με σταμάτησαν. Θα προσπαθήσω να ξεπεράσω αυτό το σημείο. Πιστεύω πως
το μόνο όριο στις ανθρώπινες δυνατότητες είναι μέσα στο μυαλό μας. Εάν μπορούμε να ξεφορτωθούμε όλες τις προκαταλήψεις μας σχετικά με το τι είναι και τι
δεν είναι πιθανό, είμαστε ικανοί να καταφέρουμε τα πάντα».
Τι σκέφτεστε όταν τρέχετε; «Τα πάντα. Το τρέξιμο απελευθερώνει το μυαλό
μου και μου επιτρέπει να σκέφτομαι και να ονειρεύομαι χωρίς περισπασμούς και
διακοπές. Όταν τρέχω, το μυαλό και το σώμα μου είναι ελεύθερα».
Τι θα συμβουλεύατε τους αρχάριους δρομείς να μην ξεχνούν ποτέ; «Το να
απολαμβάνουν την εμπειρία. Να μην θεωρούν το τρέξιμο ως σκληρή δουλειά και
βασανιστήριο. Αποδεχτείτε την εμπειρία τού να ακούτε τον χτύπο της καρδιάς
σας. Καλωσορίστε τις δυσκολίες και αποδεχτείτε την πρόκληση. Να γίνει το τρέξιμο κάτι που ανυπομονείτε να κάνετε. Αυτοί που τρέχουν για την ευχαρίστησή
τους δεν κουράζονται ποτέ».
Ποια είναι μερικά από τα αγαπημένα ή ουσιώδη κομμάτια του εξοπλισμού
αγώνων δρόμου; «Είμαι μεγάλος οπαδός της αθλητικής συλλογής “Better Than

κάθε δρομέας είναι διαφορετικός. Ο μόνος πραγματικός τρόπος να μάθεις αν είσαι έτοιμος να τρέξεις έναν υπερμαραθώνιο είναι το να λάβεις μέρος και να δοκιμάσεις. Τα αποτελέσματα θα μιλήσουν από μόνα τους».
Πώς αποφασίζετε ποια πρόκληση να επιχειρήσετε κάθε φορά; «Όπως μπορείτε να φανταστείτε, το πρόγραμμά μου είναι πολύ γεμάτο και λαμβάνω προσκλήσεις να τρέξω σε αγώνες σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο. Μου αρέσει να δοκιμάζω νέους αγώνες και νέες εμπειρίες. Ο χορηγός μου, η εταιρία The North Face,

forefathers and I hope to experience some of those same feelings and emotions that Pheidippides would have felt 2,500 years ago. The race will be the
subject matter of my upcoming book by Rodale Press, publisher of Runner’s
World and Men’s Health and Prevention, and I want to shine a bright light on
Greece, the historic significance of the Spartathlon and Pheidippides’ triumph.
Do you think there is any limit to how far a human could run in one shot? I
believe the limit is due only to lack of sleep. I was once able to run 567 km without rest, but three nights without sleep eventually stopped me. I will try to surpass this mark. I believe the only limit to human potential is in our minds. If we
can remove the preconceived notions of what is and what is not possible, we
are capable of achieving anything.
What are you thinking about when you run? Anything and everything. Running
sets my mind free and allows me to think and dream without distractions or interruptions. When I run, my mind and body are free.
What would you advise beginner runners as the one thing to remember?
To enjoy the experience. Don’t think of running as hard work and torture. Embrace the experience of listening to your heartbeat. Welcome the struggle and
accept the challenge. Make it something you look forward to. Those who run
for pleasure never tire.
What are some of your favourite or essential pieces of running gear? I’m
a big fan of the athletic collection by The North Face called “Better Than Naked.” The technical fabrics used in this line of sportswear helps cool the body

How do you know if you’re ready to run an ultra? Is there a certain number
of marathons that you should have under your belt first or a certain running
base that is needed? You know you’re ready to run an ultra when you know
you’re ready to run an ultra. Every runner is different. The only true way to know
if you’re ready to run an ultra is by signing up and trying. The results will speak
for themselves.
How do you decide which challenge to take on next? Do you have a bucket
list or go with opportunities as they come up? As you can imagine, my schedule is very full and I receive many invitations to race all over the world. I like trying
new races and new experiences. My sponsor, The North Face, has this wonderful motto: Never Stop Exploring. I like to explore the limits of human endurance
and human capacity. The more extreme the race, the more hostile and forbidding the conditions, the better. I live for pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Of all your running experiences, which is the most memorable? When it comes
to my most memorable race, the answer might surprise you. While I’ve had the
great privilege of running and racing on all 7-continents of the planet, twice over
now, in some of the most remote and exotic locations on earth — from a marathon to the South Pole to running a across the Sahara Desert — my most cherished accomplishment is running a 10 km race with my daughter, Alexandria, on
her 10th birthday. Nothing will ever surpass that experience.

με την κόρη μου, Αλεξάνδρια, στα δέκατα γενέθλιά της. Αυτή η εμπειρία θα μείνει για πάντα αξεπέραστη».
Είστε ιδιαίτερα ευαισθητοποιημένος σε ό,τι αφορά στο θέμα της παιδικής
παχυσαρκίας. Τι συμβουλεύετε τα παιδιά και τους γονείς; «Μερικές φορές γονείς ζητούν τη συμβουλή μου, λέγοντας πως ανησυχούν που τα παιδιά τους δεν
ασκούνται και δεν τρώνε υγιεινά. Πρέπει να κάνω στους γονείς μια ερώτηση: Εκείνοι οι ίδιοι ασκούνται και ακολουθούν υγιεινή διατροφή; Οι γονείς πρέπει να καθοδηγούν τα παιδιά τους με το παράδειγμα των πράξεων τους και όχι με τα λόγια».
Έχετε τρέξει με τη Μισέλ Ομπάμα, για να στηρίξετε τον σκοπό αυτό. Πόσο
σημαντικό είναι να δίνουν το καλό παράδειγμα οι διάσημοι; «Η παιδική παχυσαρκία έχει εξελιχθεί σε παγκόσμια επιδημία. Τα παιδιά αυτά είναι το μέλλον μας
και πολλά από αυτά υποφέρουν από υπέρταση, λαχάνιασμα και διαβήτη. Αυτό
για μένα είναι τραγικό. Το να ζητάμε τη συμβολή διασήμων προσώπων, όπως η
Μισέλ Ομπάμα, αλλά και των μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης είναι σημαντικό βήμα
προς τη δημιουργία μεγαλύτερης ευαισθητοποίησης. Αυτή είναι η αποστολή μου».
Τι αγαπάτε περισσότερο στο τρέξιμο; «Το τρέξιμο είναι η απόλυτη ελευθερία.
Όταν τρέχω, βρίσκομαι σε αρμονία με τον εαυτό μου και τον κόσμο, η ψυχή μου
ανανεώνεται και το πνεύμα μου αναζωογονείται. Μόλις ανακαλύψεις τη μαγεία
αυτή, μεταμορφώνεσαι. Γι’αυτό λατρεύω να τρέχω».

Are you particularly sensitive on issues of childhood obesity? What is your
advice to children and parents? Sometimes parents consult me saying they are
concerned their children don’t exercise or eat a healthy diet. They ask me what
I recommend to help? I must ask the parents an honest question: Do they exercise and follow a healthy diet? Parents must lead by example, not words. As a
parent you cannot tell children to become more physically active and eat better if you do not do these things yourself. We mustn’t forget that as we get older, healthy nutrition and exercise should also be combined with other important preventive behaviours in order to achieve “Healthy Aging”. Immunization
against infectious diseases like flu and pneumococcal disease, smoking cessation
and appropriate screening, can help people – especially as they get older - live
longer and better lives.
You have run with Michele Obama to support this cause. How important is
it for well-known people to set an example for others? Childhood obesity has
become a global epidemic that we must work hard to reverse. These children
are our future and many of them suffer from high blood pressure, shortness of
breath and diabetes at a very young age. To me, this is tragic. Engaging famous
figures like Michele Obama, and the media is an important step in building greater awareness of this crisis. This is my life mission.
You have probably been asked this a million times, but what do you love most
about running? Running is the ultimate freedom. When I run, I am at peace with
myself and the world, my soul is refreshed and my spirit is rejuvenated. Once you
discover this magic you are transformed. This is why I love running.

It has been described as the Riviera of the East, the Los Angeles
of the coastal road, the Miami of Attica, and even the metropolis of the South.
A suburb of Athens that is the ideal fusion between the mountain and the sea,
and entertainment and tranquillity. After all, the history of Glyfada is associated
with well-being.
Mέχρι το 1900, αποτελούσε μια πευκόφυτη και εντελώς ακατοίκητη περιοχή. Mέσα στο δάσος της υπήρχε μόνο το ξωκλήσι του Aγίου Kωνσταντίνου και ένα μικρό
πανδοχείο, καταφύγιο κυνηγών. Τη δεκαετία του ’20, η Γλυφάδα διαφημίστηκε ως
λουτρόπολη και άρχισε να κατοικείται κυρίως από ευκατάστατους κατοίκους του
κέντρου της Αθήνας, που έφτιαχναν εξοχικά σπίτια για παραθερισμό. Η Γλυφάδα
ήταν τότε ακόμη ένα προάστιο με ελάχιστα κτήρια και πάρα πολλά πεύκα. Εκείνη
την περίοδο, δημιουργήθηκαν τα περίφημα λουτρά της Γλυφάδας, στα σημερινά Αστέρια. Τα λεγόμενα «bain mixtes» ήταν τα πρώτα κοινά μπάνια, στα οποία
μπορούσαν να συνυπάρχουν άνδρες και γυναίκες. Η απόδραση των Αθηναίων
στην πιο ξακουστή παραλία της εποχής ήταν κοσμική υπόθεση και απευθυνόταν κυρίως σε ανθρώπους με υψηλότερα εισοδήματα.
It was a completely uninhabited pine forest until 1900, with only the tiny church
of St. Constantine and a small shelter for hunters. In the 1920s, Glydada was touted as a spa town and was mainly inhabited by wealthy Athenians, who kept holiday cottages there. Those days, Glyfada was still a suburb with few buildings and
many trees. That was the period when the renowned Glyfada baths were built,
on the site of the current Asteria (Stars) beach. These “mixed baths” were the
first baths that both men and women could use together. Escape to the most
famous beach of the early 20th century was a matter of status and was limited
to the higher income classes.
Τη δεκαετία του ’60, η Γλυφάδα γνωρίζει σημαντική ανάπτυξη λόγω της εγκατάστασης του διεθνούς αεροδρομίου αλλά και της Αμερικανικής Βάσης στο Ελληνικό. Ο κινηματογράφος «Μαϊάμι» μαζί με το εξίσου ιστορικό «Αριάν» και μετέπειτα το «Άννα Ντορ», υπήρξαν τα hot spot εκείνης της περιόδου. Ο τρόπος
διασκέδασης, ο πολυεθνικός χαρακτήρας της, αλλά και η αρχιτεκτονική της θυμίζουν έντονα τα πλούσια αμερικανικά προάστια. Μοναδική στο σύνολό της, ξεχειλίζει από ζωντάνια, παλμό, ενέργεια, αλλά και αντιθέσεις που δεν συναντάς
πουθενά αλλού στην πόλη.
Στη Γλυφάδα θα βρεις πραγματικά ο,τιδήποτε ψάχνεις. Ζησιμοπούλου, Γρηγορίου Λαμπράκη, Σ. Καράγιωργα είναι οι κεντρικοί εμπορικοί δρόμοι που έχουν και

In the 1960s, Glyfada experienced significant grown due to the construction
of the international airport and the American Army Base at Hellenikon. The
Miami, Arian and later the Anna Dor cinemas were the hot spots of the
time. The entertainment, multi-national character and architecture of Glyfada

το γνωρίσουν από κοντά. Στο γήπεδο γκολφ της Γλυφάδας βρίσκεται και ο νέος
all day προορισμός, το «Τ-Square Restaurant Bar». Οι ατμοσφαιρικοί φωτισμοί

ένα από τα καλύτερα γήπεδα στον κόσμο. Η ύπαρξη πλούσιας χλωρίδας, καθώς
και η δυσκολία των διαδρόμων του (fairways) το καθιστούν ιδιαίτερα ελκυστικό

άποτε, τα καπέλα συνόδευαν
το ντύσιμο όλες τις εποχές του χρόνου και όλες τις ώρες της ημέρας, από τους πρωινούς περιπάτους ως τις βραδινές εξόδους. Αποτελούσαν απαραίτητα αξεσουάρ
που προσέδιδαν φινέτσα, επιβλητικότητα, στυλ. Σήμερα, λίγοι εκτιμούν και ακολουθούν πιστά την εντυπωσιακή μόδα των προγόνων τους.
Το κατάστημα-εργαστήριο καπέλων ΠΑΝ-ΠΟΛ (σ.σ: τα αρχικά από το όνομα του
ιδιοκτήτη Παναγιώτη Πολυχρονόπουλου) λειτουργεί στην οδό Αθηνάς από το
1965, ξεκίνησε όμως σαν επιχείρηση από το 1930, από τον πατέρατου. Αργότερα,
ο γιος του, Παναγιώτης Πολυχρονόπουλος, άρχισε να ασχολείται με το εμπόριο
διαφόρων ειδών καπέλων. Σήμερα, το κατάστημα έχουμε αναλάβει εγώ και η σύζυγός μου, Βασιλική», λέει ο ο Ανδρόνικος Παντελής. «Το κατάστημα έχει γίνει για
εμάς το δεύτερο σπίτι μας καθώς αφιερώνουμε πολύ χρόνο καθημερινά, αλλά είμαστε και συναισθηματικά δεμένοι μ’ αυτό. O κόσμος πολλές φορές στέκεται, σαν
να “ηλεκτρίζεται”, συνειδητοποιώντας ότι υπάρχουν ακόμη καταστήματα με καπέλα.
Oι πελάτες μας καταφέρνουν να βρουν στο κατάστημά μας συγκεκριμένα καπέλα
που ψάχνουν μετά μανίας! Η σχέση εμπιστοσύνης που δημιουργούμε με τους πελάτες, καθώς πολλές φορές μάς μιλάνε για προσωπικά τους θέματα, είναι ένα γεγονός που μας ενθαρρύνει να συνεχίσουμε. Πέρα από το στιλ που προσφέρει σε ένα
ντύσιμο ως αξεσουάρ, το καπέλο είναι αναγκαίο το καλοκαίρι, αλλά και τον χειμώνα,
καθώς προστατεύει και μειώνει το κρύο που νιώθουμε.
Στην αγορά κυκλοφορούν καπέλα από διάφορα υλικά: καστόρι, ψάθα, μερινό, γούνα, παναμά, δέρμα, μετάξι, βισκόζι, πανί , η ποιότητα των οποίων παίζει καθοριστικό
ρόλο στην τιμή τους. Για το καλοκαίρι, ο παναμάς θεωρείται το καλύτερο και ακριβότερο υλικό κ αι υπάρχουν 12 ποιότητες, ενώ για τον χειμώνα το καστόρι. Ένα καπέλο μπορεί να κοστίσει από 5 ευρώ, αν είναι ένα απλό τζόκεϊ, ως και 500 ευρώ, αν
είναι π.χ. από πολύ καλό παναμά. Βέβαια, οι τιμές εξαρτώνται και από την ποιότητα
της κατασκευής (π.χ. σχολαστικές λεπτομέρειες στα φινιρίσματα). Γι' αυτό άλλωστε,
πληρώνετε περισσότερα για τα χειροποίητα.
“There was a time when hats were worn during all seasons and all hours of the
day, from morning walks to outings at night. They were indispensible accessories that lent elegance, grandeur and style to the wearer. Today, few people
respect and follow their ancestor’s stylish lead.
The PAN-POL hat shop-workshop (shortened form of the owner’s name, Panagiotis Polychronopoulos) first opened on Athinas Street in 1965, but his father founded the business in 1930. Several years later, Panagiotis Polychronopoulos engaged in the trade of various kinds of hats. My wife, Vasiliki Polychronopoulou and I currently run the shop,” says Pantelis Andronikos. “The shop
has become our second home as we spend a lot of time there each day, but
we’re also emotionally attached to it. People often stand outside, “stunned”
that there are still hat shops. Our customers find hats in our store that they’d
been searching for everywhere! The trust we’ve established with our customers, as they often discuss personal matters with us, encourages us to carry on.
Beyond the style it offers as an accessory, hats protect us from the cold and
keep us warm.
There are all sorts of hats, made of a variety of materials, including suede, straw,
merino wool, fur, panama, leather, silk, viscose and cloth, whose quality plays a
vital role in the price. Panama is considered the best and most expensive material for summer, and there are 12 different grades, while suede is the favourite for winter. A hat can cost as little as 5 Euro for a simple jockey cap, and as
much as 500 Euro for a very good panama. Prices are naturally dependent
on the quality of construction (e.g. meticulous details in the finish). That’s why
handmade hats are more expensive.
Hats should only be washed topically by hand or they will lose their shape, and
it goes without saying that not even a drop of water should fall on a straw hat.”

ατμόσφαιρα του Πόρου μ’ έχει κερδίσει πέρα για πέρα. Μ’ αρέσει αυτός ο κόσμος, τόσο κλειστός,
που η αυγή φέρνει το φως και στους αθανάτους. Περίπατος στο φάρο. Μεταλλικά χρώματα στη θάλασσα...». Ίσως δεν υπάρχει καλύτερη περιγραφή για τον
Πόρο από εκείνη που κάνει ο Χένρι Μίλερ στον «Κολοσσό του Μαρουσιού»,
όταν τον επισκέφθηκε το φθινόπωρο του 1939. «Δεν ξέρω τι με επηρέασε πιο

Η προκυμαία του Πόρου με τα νεοκλασικά κτήρια γύρω από το ιστορικό ρολόι
σε προκαλεί να ανακαλύψεις την κρυμμένη ομορφιά του. Δεν είναι τυχαίο άλλωστε που ο Πόρος υπήρξε πηγή έμπνευσης πολλών διακεκριμένων λογοτεχνών
και καλλιτεχνών. Στη δεκαετία του ‘30, ο Κοσμάς Πολίτης έγραψε το εμπνευσμένο «Λεμονοδάσος», ενώ στη βίλα «Γαλήνη», ο σπουδαίος Γιώργος Σεφέρης
με τη σύντροφό του Μάρω Δραγούμη και με παρέα πότε τον Χένρι Μίλερ και
πότε τον μετέπειτα θρύλο της ευρωπαϊκής ζωγραφικής του 20ού αιώνα Λούσιαν Φρόιντ και τον άγγλο ζωγράφο Τζον Κράξτον, υμνούσαν το ελληνικό φως.

“The atmosphere of Poros has won me over. I like this world, so
closed that the dawn even brings light to the immortals. A walk to the lighthouse,
the metallic colours of the sea…” Henry Miller, in The Colossus of Maroussi, provided perhaps the best description of Poros when he visited the island in the autumn of 1939. “I don’t know what affected me more deeply – the story of the
lemon groves just opposite us or the sight of Poros itself when suddenly I realised we were sailing through the streets. If there is one dream which I like above
all others, it is that of sailing on land. Coming into Poros gives the illusion of the
deep dream. Suddenly the land converges on all sides and the boat is squeezed
into a narrow strait from which there is no egress. (…) let me hover as a gentle
spirit above the roofs of Poros and look down upon the voyager with a smile
of peace and good cheer. I can see the whole human race straining through the
neck of the bottle here, searching for egress into the world of light and beauty.
May they come, may they disembark, may they stay and rest a while in peace.”
The Poros waterfront, with neoclassical buildings surrounding the historic clock,
beckons to visitors to discover its hidden beauty. It’s no coincidence that Poros has served as a source of inspiration for many acclaimed writers and artists.
In the 30s, Kosmas Politis was inspired to write The Lemon Grove, and illustrious poet Giorgos Seferis and his partner Maro Dragoumi stayed at the Villa Galini and paid homage to the light of Greece, socialising with Henry Miller, Lucien
Freud, who would later become a legend in the European painting scene of the
20th century, and British artist John Kraxton.
The route that begins at Perlia and winds erotically around the two Neorio
beaches, Megalo and Mikro (big and small), continues through Limanaki Agapis
(Love Bay) and the Russian Dockyard - eventually leading to the Lighthouse, is
perhaps the most beautiful of the island. Adventurers will relish the sports and

ξυλόγλυπτο τέμπλο Μικρασιατικής προέλευσης. Στον ναό του Αγίου Γεωργίου
στο κέντρο της πόλης, αξίζει να δείτε τον Παντοκράτορα, έργο του μεγάλου
Έλληνα ζωγράφου Κωνσταντίνου Παρθένη. Στα βορειοανατολικά, επισκεφθείτε
τα ερείπια του ναού του Ποσειδώνα, που χρονολογείται από τον 6ο αιώνα π.Χ.
Όλοι οι παραθαλάσσιοι οικισμοί –και, βέβαια, οι παραλίες– του νησιού, καθώς
και το νησάκι Μπούρτζι, με το κτισμένο το 1827 κάστρο του, είναι επισκέψιμοι
με τα βαρκάκια που αναχωρούν ανά δέκα λεπτά από το λιμάνι. H διάσχιση του
καναλιού που χωρίζει τον Πόρο από τον Γαλατά, με ένα από τα πλοιάρια που
φτάνουν στην Πλάκα σε 10 μόλις λεπτά και η επίσκεψη του περίφημου Λεμονοδάσους, το οποίο αριθμεί περισσότερα από 40.000 δέντρα προσφέρει ένα
εκπληκτικό θέαμα και πλημμυρίζει με το μοναδικό τους άρωμα ολόκληρη την

Archaeological Museum located in the centre of Poros Town is well worth a visit, as is the Zoodochou Pigis Monastery, which is situated a short distance from
town and offers a breath-taking view of the sea. The main church of the monastery is a remarkable example of Byzantine architecture, featuring a magnificent
wooden temple of Asia Minor origin. The Agios Georgios church in town houses a depiction of Christ Pantocrator, painted by esteemed Greek artist Konstantinos Parthenis. The ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, dating to the 6th century
BC, can be found in the northeast of the island.
All coastal settlements – and beaches – of the island, as well as the Bourtzi islet,
whose castle was built in 1827, can be visited by boats that depart every 10 minutes from the port. The channel separating Poros and Galatas is crossed by boat
from Plaka in just 10 minutes, for a sojourn to the renowned Lemon Groves, an
amazing sight with over 40,000 trees that diffuse a unique fragrance throughout

To να φτιάξω το δικό μου fashion blog ήταν μάλλον η πιο αυθόρμητη απόφαση
της ζωής μου. Στο blog μου καταπιάνομαι με τα πάντα. Μου αρέσει να χαζεύω στο
internet street style φωτογραφίες. Μελετάω τις κολεξιόν των fashion weeks απ'
όλες τις μητροπόλεις της μόδας. Από τις φετινές τάσεις της μόδας Φθινόπωρο/
Χειμώνας 2014-15 τα blanket coats ήταν σίγουρα αυτά που ξεχώρισαν στις πασαρέλες. Τα βρίσκω εξαιρετικά βολικά και all weather.
Αγαπημένοι μου σχεδιαστές είναι η Isabel Marant γιατί καθιέρωσε ένα δικό της στιλ
με ρούχα που μπορείς να φοράς από το πρωί μέχρι το βράδυ. Η Stella McCartney
για την boyish κομψότητα των ρούχων της και η Phoebe Philo για όλα όσα έκανε
στον οίκο Celine. Το προσωπικό μου στυλ θα το χαρακτήριζα απλό και λιτό, δίνοντας πάντα προσοχή σε λεπτομέρειες όπως τσάντα - παπούτσια - αξεσουάρ.
Η άποψη μου για το blogging στην Ελλάδα είναι ότι υπάρχουν πολλά fashion blogs
για μία μικρή χώρα, όπου δεν υπάρχει η αντίστοιχη βιομηχανία να τα στηρίξει. Χώρος βέβαια υπάρχει για όλους - ειδικά διαδικτυακός. Το blogging δεν είναι η κύρια
απασχόληση μου. Εργάζομαι εδώ και χρόνια στη διαφήμιση, έναν χώρο που αγαπάω πολύ. Τον υπόλοιπο ελάχιστο χρόνο που έχω, εκτός από το blog, ασχολούμαι με το σπίτι και τη διακόσμησή του.
Στο Galaxy Bar & Restaurant λατρεύω φυσικά τη θέα – είναι η ωραιότερη στην
Αθήνα. Και βεβαίως, διαθέτει το πιο ωραίο Bellini της Αθήνας.

Αποφάσισα να ξεκινήσω το blogging όταν μια μέρα, ένας φίλος μού έκανε δώρο
ένα ροζ Smythson σημειωματάριο με την ένδειξη «Girl Notes» και ενθουσιάστηκα! Άρχισα να σκέφτομαι όλα τα ιδιαίτερα πράγματα που θα σημείωνα εκεί. Μικρά
μυστικά, ανακαλύψεις, γυναικείους πόθους, όλα όσα δεν ήθελα να ξεχάσω ποτέ. Το ίδιο ακριβώς βράδυ αποφάσισα να μετατρέψω την ιδέα σε ένα προσωπικό ιστολόγιο, μέσα από το οποίο θα μοιραζόμουν όλα τα όμορφα πράγματα, ιδέες, συναισθήματα που συναντούσα στην καθημερινότητά μου, με άγνωστες μέχρι
τότε pinkettes εκεί έξω.
Στο blog μου μ' αρέσει να καταπιάνομαι με την έμπνευση πίσω από κάθε ιδέα. Τι
είναι αυτό που κάνει τους σχεδιαστές, αυτούς τους κατ' ανάγκην εμπορικούς καλλιτέχνες, να παράγουν πρωτότυπες συλλογές με ωρολογιακή ακρίβεια κάθε έξι ή
τρεις μήνες;
Επαγγελματικά συστήνομαι ως δημοσιογράφος και στέλεχος επικοινωνίας. Με συναντά κανείς ως υπεύθυνη ύλης στην ηλεκτρονική έκδοση του περιοδικού Madame
Figaro (www.madamefigaro.gr), έχω τη στήλη μου στο περιοδικό Close Up της
Θεσσαλονίκης και κρατώ το τιμόνι της επικοινωνίας του ελληνικού luxury brand μαγιό MITOS (www.mitoswimwear.com). Αγαπημένοι μου σχεδιαστές είναι ο Tom
Ford και ο Hedi Slimane γιατί ξέρουν ενστικτωδώς τι κάνει τις γυναίκες να αισθάνονται σέξι, η Stella McCartney και η Phoebe Philo για την απλότητα, την ευγένεια
και την ειλικρίνεια των σχεδίων τους. Από Έλληνες επιλέγω εδώ και πολλά χρόνια
MI-RO. Οι τάσεις που ξεχώρισα φέτος είναι τα blanket scarves και οι ζώνες, κατά προτίμηση φορεμένα μαζί. Το δέρμα σε βαθιές πολυτελείς αποχρώσεις και τα
πλατύγυρα καπέλα όπως τα έδειξε ο Saint Laurent.
Επιλέγω το Galaxy Bar & Restaurant του Hilton Αθηνών πολύ συχνά για επαγγελματικές συναντήσεις, girl nights και ιδιαίτερα ραντεβού. Δεν υπάρχει περίπτωση να
είμαι για φαγητό στο Galaxy Βar & Restaurant και να μην παραγγείλω το Dragon
Roll! Ακόμη κι αν δεν φάμε sushi για κυρίως πιάτο, θα το παραγγείλω οπωσδήποτε στα πρώτα. Πρόσφατα μάλιστα οι εξαιρετικοί sushi chefs μάς έμαθαν και πώς
να το κάνουμε μόνοι μας στο σπίτι σε ένα πριβέ σεμινάριο. Το συνοδεύω πάντα
με ένα κοκτέιλ Shooting Star που κανονικά δεν έχει αλκοόλ, αλλά πάντα ζητάω να
μου προσθέσουν λίγο τζιν!

Creating my own fashion blog was perhaps the most spontaneous decision of my
life. My blog covers all sorts of subjects. I like searching for street style photographs
on the internet. I study the fashion week collections from all the fashion capitals of
the world. Blanket coats certainly stood out on the Fall/Winter 2014-15 runways.
I find them very versatile and all weather.
Isabel Marant is one of my favourite designers because she has clinched her own
style with clothes that can be worn from morning until night. I also like Stella
McCartney for the boyish elegance of her clothes and Phoebe Philo’s work at
Celine. I would describe my personal style as simple and unassuming, and I always
pay attention to details like bags – shoes – accessories.
I believe that there are many fashion blogs in Greece, which is a small country that
doesn’t have the corresponding industry to support them. But there is room for
everyone – especially online. Blogging isn’t my full-time job. I’ve been working in
advertising for many years and I love it. In the little spare time I have, I work on my
blog and decorating my home.
I adore the view at the Galaxy Bar & Restaurant – it’s the best one in Athens. Αnd
it has the best Bellini in Athens.

I decided to start blogging when a friend gave me a pink Smythson notebook
embossed with the words “Girl Notes”. I was thrilled! I started thinking about all
the special things I would write in it. Tips, discoveries, female desires – everything
I wanted to remember. That very same night I decided to turn the idea into a
personal blog in which I would share all the beautiful things, ideas and feelings
encountered in everyday life with as yet unidentified “pinkettes”.
My blog is about the inspiration behind each idea. What makes designers, who
are by necessity commercial artists, produce original collections with clockwork
accuracy every three or six months? The personalities, works of art, historical
events, worldwide cultural wealth that inspire them and somehow live on today.
I’m responsible for the content of the online version of the Madame Figaro
magazine (www.madamefigaro.gr), I’ve got my own column in Close Up, a
Thessaloniki magazine, and am at the helm of communications for the Greek
luxury swimwear brand MITOS (www.mitosswimwear.com).
My favourite designers are Tom Ford and Hedi Slimane because they instinctively
know just what makes women feel sexy, and Stella McCartny and Phoebe Philo
for the simplicity, kindness and sincerity of their designs. MI-RO has been a
favourite Greek designer for many years. Trends that stood out this year include
blanket scarves and belts, preferably worn together, the leather in deep luxurious
tones and the wide-brimmed hats from the Saint Laurent collection.
I often choose the Galaxy Bar & Restaurant at the Hilton Athens for business
meetings, girl nights and special dates. I always order the Dragon Roll when
dining at the Galaxy Bar & Restaurant! Even when we don’t order sushi as a
main course, I will definitely have it as an appetizer. I recently attended a private
seminar with the incredible sushi chefs and they taught us how to prepare it at
home. And I always have a Shooting Star cocktail, which is non-alcoholic, but I
ask for a little gin to be added!

Έφτιαξα το blog μου, γιατί πάντα μου άρεσε ο χώρος της μόδας. Το ξεκίνησα σαν
τρόπο έκφρασης για το τί μου αρέσει να φοράω στην καθημερινότητα και τί αγαπώ πιο πολύ. Στο blog μου μ'αρέσει να καταπιάνομαι με τα πάντα: ρούχα τσάντες,

Η μόδα για μένα είναι τρόπος έκφρασης. Είναι το στιλ που μας χαρακτηρίζει. Μπορεί να μας ταξιδέψει σε ένα μαγικό κόσμο και ανάλογα με τη διάθεσή μας ή τη χρονική περίοδο μπορεί να μας φτιάχνει τη διάθεση. Από τις αγαπημένες μου φετινές
τάσεις του χειμώνα είναι τα μεταλλικά χρώματα, τα oversized πανωφόρια και κοσμήματα, τα sneakers, αλλά και οι μπότες μέχρι τη μέση του μηρού. Μεταμορφώνουν την εμφάνισή μας και συνδυάζονται με διαφορετικά outfits, δίνοντας άλλο
αποτέλεσμα κάθε φορά, ανάλογα με τη διάθεσή μας!
To στυλ μου θα έλεγα ότι είναι chic and edgy. Μου αρέσει να συνδυάζω κλασικά και
μοντέρνα κομμάτια γιατί το αποτέλεσμα είναι ιδιαίτερο, χωρίς να είναι υπερβολικό.

For me, fashion is a way to express yourself. It is the style that defines us. It can
take us on a journey to a magical world and depending on your state of mind or
moment in time, it can actually lift your mood. My favourite winter trends this year
include metallic colours, oversized overcoats and jewellery, sneakers and thigh high
boots. They transform our appearance and depending on our mood, the look is
different each time they are combined with a new outfit!
My personal style is chic and edgy, but not over the top! I like mixing classic and
modern pieces because the result is unique, without being excessive. I follow new
trends, customizing them to my personality. I am a television presenter on the Join
Us programme on SKAI TV and a Public Relations Consultant.

Ποιες είναι οι αγαπημένες σου γωνιές στην πόλη; «Περπατάω πολύ στην Αθήνα, μου αρέσει ο περιφερειακός του Λυκαβηττού, τα μικρά, ήσυχα δρομάκια, οι
κρυμμένες αυλές στα Εξάρχεια, η περιοχή γύρω από την εκκλησία της Αγ. Αικατερίνης στην Πλάκα, ο πεζόδρομος της Διονυσίου Αρεοπαγίτου και του Μακρυγιάννη για το τουριστικό χρώμα που έχουν, τα σκαλάκια στην Πλάκα, η Δεξαμενή στο Κολωνάκι».
Αν φιλοξενούσες κάποιον από τους ξένους φίλους σου, στην Αθήνα, πού θα
τον ξεναγούσες; «Θα ξεκίναγα από το Κολωνάκι, θα κατεβαίναμε Σύνταγμα, θα
περνάγαμε μπροστά από τη Βουλή με κατεύθυνση προς τη Διονυσίου Αρεοπαγίτου, θα κάναμε το γύρο για να βρεθούμε στο Θησείο και να κατεβούμε προς
Μοναστηράκι. Στάση στην πλ. Αγίας Ειρήνης, θα τσιμπάγαμε κάτι στο Mama
Roux. Χαλαρό μεσημεριανό στη Δεξαμενή, για ελληνική, παραδοσιακή κουζίνα
στο Κεντρικόν, για κάτι πιο ιδιαίτερο στο εστιατόριο του Μουσείου Μπενάκη και
το βράδυ, για ποτό στο Galaxy Βar and Restaurant. Αν ερχόταν για πρώτη φορά,
θα επισκεπτόμασταν σίγουρα την Ακρόπολη και το μουσείο της και αν ερχόταν
καλοκαίρι, θα πηγαίναμε για μπάνιο στη μεγαλύτερη πισίνα που υπάρχει στο κέντρο -του Hilton Αθηνών φυσικά- και θερινό σινεμά στην Αίγλη, στο Ζάππειο».

What have you been doing recently? In recent years I’ve been working as a certified Pilates and bodyART instructor, two methods employed by the mind and
body fitness programmes and face yoga. I’m fascinated by psychology – I take
courses and have been NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) certified – and nutrition. I also created the www.livelifewell.gr website and have a teenager. That,
in and of itself, is a full time job!
Tell us about livelifewell. It’s a website dedicated to beauty, fitness, health, nutrition and a positive attitude for women who want to age well and accept the
passage of time. Women who are energetic, feel good, take care of themselves,
appreciate the honest moments in life, and who want to enjoy life and live well.
With so much experience in wellness and beauty what are your health and
beauty secrets? I’m one of those women who only have a few simple things in
their beauty routine. But I’m meticulous and consistent about them! I’m a firm
believer in three steps: cleansing, moisturising and sun protection for all 365 days
of they year, plus trying to maintain healthy habits. As for staying in shape, I do
Pilates and love to swim whenever possible. I’m also in favour of any exercise
that is active and energises the body.
What do you like best at the Hiltonia Spa? The treatments offered at the Hiltonia Spa are all excellent and I must admit that I find it difficult to choose. However, the Luxury Grecian Full Body Treatment is unique because it comprises both massage and exfoliation. It’s a shame that time passes so quickly when
you’re enjoying yourself!
How would you describe your Athens in images? The view from the top of
Mount Lycabettus, the guards outside the Parliament, the Hilton Athens and the
statue of the Runner (Dromeas), the graffiti at Metaxougeio and Votanikos, the
outdoor seating in all the squares, and the long stretch of Syngrou Avenue that
connects the city quickly to the sea. And the Acropolis, of course!
Tell us about your favourite spots. I walk a lot in Athens. I like the Lycabettus
ring road, the small, quiet streets, the hidden courtyards in Exarchia, the area surrounding Agia Aikaterini church in Plaka, the tourist filled pedestrian walkways at
Dionysiou Aeropagitou and Makrygiannis, the stairs of Plaka and the Dexameni
(water reservoir) in Kolonaki.
Where would you take one of your friends from abroad who came to stay
with you in Athens? I would take him or her on a long walk in the centre of
Athens. We would start in Kolonaki then head for Syntagma Square, pass in
front of the Parliament towards Dionysiou Aeropagitou and around Filipappou hill, ending up at Thisio and Monastiraki. Time for a meal at Mama Roux
on Agia Irini square (opposite the Old Parliament) or at the restaurant of the
Benaki Museum. If they were coming for the first time, the Acropolis and its
Museum are a must, and if it was summer we would go for a swim at the largest pool downtown - at the Hilton Athens, naturally – and watch a film at the
Aigli open air cinema in Zappeion.
