It is specifically aimed for persons who wish to work in non-governmental organizations, international or multinational organizations, organizations with an international purpose or orientation, as well as persons who wish to attend graduate school in international relations, developments studies, law, politics, economics or sociology. Other persons interested in these issues or improving writing skills are welcome to attend. This course is designed for those persons who have upper-intermediate, advanced level of English ability and who wish to improve their writing skills for producing professional English language documents and materials. It is a multi-skill writing course utilizing diverse global issues for content. After a review of materials concerning a particular issue, the class will focus on different methods, styles and formats to write about these issues. After reviewing how these are used in sample sentences, we will proceed to compose sentences using them in their various meanings. When a given word or phrase is sufficiently covered, we move on to the next one, and so on. Through this exercise, we will train to become adept at writing smoothly flowing English that will be effective for academic and business writing, as well as for preparation for TOEFL, TOEIC, STEP, and other tests. In addition, the instructor will assign an optional essay topic at the end of each class session. The student will be welcome to write a 30-minute essay on the given topic and submit it to the instructor by the deadline.
