Course Objectives
For students who are interested in Media, Culture and Society to get behind the scenes knowledge and
experience with the film, TV, theatre and culture industries in Europe. More specifically, students will learn
about Slovakia’s visual art history, as well as understand the politics and culture of the country in relation
to its surrounding neighboring states.

Students are responsible for production of a media based production (photography or video) with students

Teaching Methods
This field studies trip is done in conjunction with BISLA.
Pre-activity includes - students are required to research and present a 10 minute report which
illustrates basic knowledge of Slovakia’s history and some components of its creative culture
heritage.
Teaching methods includes a series lectures, observational tours, workshops, group project work
and visits to media and culture related sites.
Post-activity includes that students must submit a 1500 word report detailing their experiences and

the knowledge acquired from their field studies activities.
The Group Project work will consist of APU students working with BISLA students on media related
projects under the theme of perceptions of multiculturalism. Students must show through their
projects (either photographic, theatre or video production) of attempting to overcome communication
and culture difference through media. Students will utilize the knowledge and experience they attain
through lectures and observational tours of the creative industries in Slovakia.

Requirements
Students
As mentioned, students must submit a 1500 word report detailing their experiences and the knowledge
acquired from their field studies activities. Students will receive the normal A+, A, B, C or F grade.

clothing for nights as well as sufficient travel accessories.
