Thank you for coming to Minato City.
Minato City includes such popular spots as Daiba, Aoyama, Roppongi, Shiodome and AzabuJuban, and it dazzles with the distinctive streetscapes of Mita, Akasaka, Takanawa, Shimbashi
and Shibaura. With its Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium, an iconic place for rugby
enthusiasts; Odaiba Marine Park, the venue for the triathlon and other events during the Tokyo
2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games; internationally known historical and cultural resources;
museums where visitors can enjoy cutting-edge art; and warm, atmospheric shotengai
(shopping districts), Minato is a bustling city.
Connected directly to Haneda and Narita airports and to the rest of Japan via Tokyo Bay and

Akasaka Sacas is a vast entertainment complex that offers enjoyment through events, theater,
music, dining, and more. Surrounding akasaka Biz Tower, the heart of Akasaka Sacas, are a television
station (TBS Broadcasting Center), Akasaka BLITZ, and Akasaka ACT Theater, as well as residential
buildings. The dazzling illumination perfectly concordant with the music is held until February.

イルミネーションは約400mにおよぶ、六本木ヒルズ
Tokyo Midtown, composed of six buildings and a wide area of greenery, features a diverse range
of facilities, from shops and restaurants to offices and residences, a hotel, and the Suntory Museum of Art. Every year, crowds of visitors
gather to see the massive-scale illuminations. Illumination display ends December 25th (excluding some displays which end in March).

boasts a height of 333 meters. The tower
includes an observation deck and was
completed in 1958. In 2013 Tokyo Tower
became one of Japan's registered tangible
cultural properties. The illuminated tower
and the sparkle of illuminations create the
quintessential scene of winter in Minato City.

Fortune) tour brings about longevity, happiness, and prosperity.
In Minato City, the pilgrimage tour includes six shrines and two
temples, with the addition of Takarabune. The recommended
walking route takes approx. 4 hours, over a total distance of
approx. 7 kilometers, starting from Akabanebashi Station and
ending at Roppongi-itchome Station.

The Minato Shichifukujin Tour is held each year, from January 1st to the
Coming-of-Age Day. The pilgrimage route includes six shrines and two temples
in Minato City, where participants can receive goshuin (sacred seal stamps) of the
Seven Gods. During this period, exclusive goshuin boards and pilgrimage maps are
available at any of the shrines and temples. The goshuin is 300 yen at each shrine
and temple. Tour hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm. *The goshuin and goshuin boards
for the Minato Shichifukujin Tour are only available during this event period.

Located within Shiba Park is Maruyama Kofun. With a total
length of over 100 meters, this keyhole-shaped burial mound
is one of the largest in Tokyo. The Maruyama Shell Mound,
dating back to the late Jomon Period, was also discovered
at the foot of the mound. At the northern tip of Maruyama
Kofun is the Ino Tadataka Sokuchi Ikohyo, a monument to
the surveyor, Tadataka Ino, that marks the starting point from
which Japan s coastline was mapped.
Take the road to the side of the Embassy of the Russian Federation
and you ll find a pedestal in which a circular metal marker is embedded.
The intersection of the cross on the metal marker indicates Japan s
geodetic datum origin point. This location is where the meridian circle
of the Tokyo Astronomical Observatory (current National Astronomical
Observatory of Japan) once was before the Great Kanto Earthquake.

It is said that Akasaka Hitotsugi Dori came to be when places
where people mingled and communicated ( hitotsugu, meaning to
pass on between people) became one ( hitotsugi, meaning a single

businesses with a history of over 100 years. Akasaka has also long

In addition to cleanup of the shotengai (shopping
district) Merry Road Takanawa, which is near our
university, and its surrounding area, we take part, as
students, in the revitalization of the Takanawa District
by planning and operating events and participating in
festivals. What we experience through our interactions with
the people of the shotengai, the local residents, and the
police is invaluable. We ll be decorating the shotengai with
lights in the winter, so we d love for you all to come visit.

This issue s feature city is Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture. Gujo City and Minato City have entered into
Shotengai Yuko Toshi to no Koryu ni kansuru Kihon Kyotei (basic agreement related to exchange
among shopping-district-friendly cities) and Minato-ku to Gifu-ken Gujo-shi to no Saigaiji Sougo
Kyoryoku Kyotei (agreement for mutual cooperation between Minato City and Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture,
in the event of a disaster ). Known as one of the best winter resorts in Western Japan, Gujo City is
blessed with an abundance of hot springs and a rich natural environment. Gujo City is also noted for its
local cuisine, such as shishi-nabe, a hot pot of boar meat. The Gujo Odori dance festival, designated
one of Japan s Important Intangible Folk Cultural Assets, is held in the summer. In Minato City, which has
long-standing historical ties with Gujo City, the Gujo Odori in Aoyama is held every early summer.
