ある日 おじいさんが お寺の前を歩いていたときです。むらさきのきものを着ている女の
人が お寺のにわに ねていました。 女の人は、おじいさんを見てとてもよろこびまし
た。 「すみません、おじいさん、私は足が痛くて歩くことができません。のどもかわい
ていますから、水がほしいのですが、」といいました。 おじいさんは ちょっとこわかっ
たですが、 すぐ水をあげました。 そして いたい足のために くすりも
あげました。 女の人は静かに水とくすりを飲んでから、「ありがとう、これでうちに
帰ることができます。」と言って、海のほうへゆっくり走って行きました。 女の人は、
やせていましたが、おじいさんよりせが高くて、ながくてちゃいろい髪の毛がとてもきれ
いでした。そのばん、おじいさんはおとがきこえるのでそとを見てみました。まどのそと
には、むらさきのスカーフをした、りっぱな馬が立っていました。
