The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Roseburg District Office has announced that from June 7 through June 16, 2010, there will be maintenance work completed on the water system at the Millpond Campground. Recreational sites affected by this work include Millpond Campground, Millpond Day Use, Millpond Pavilion, Rock Creek Campground and Rock Creek Day Use. These recreation sites will remain open during this period. However, it is recommended that campers at these recreation sites provide their own drinking water.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Oregon State Office continues to seek nominations for vacant positions on the five Resource Advisory Committees (RACs) in the Districts of western Oregon. Nominations are due on or before February 14, 2011. The Secretary of the Interior will appoint new members who would begin evaluating and prioritizing projects submitted in spring 2011.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Lakeview District will host an Open House on February 19 to celebrate the installation of Carol Benkosky as the new Lakeview District Manager. BLM Oregon/Washington State Director Ed Shepard will be present to welcome Benkosky to her new position. Shepard, Benkosky and other BLM officials will be introduced to participants and available to discuss local issues.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Lakeview District and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a joint public meeting on April 15 to discuss the agencies' plan to reduce hazardous fuels near Ana Reservoir. Approximately 1,000 acres of public land in the vicinity of Picture Rock Pass have been identified for juniper thinning. A draft treatment plan has been prepared for this project that addresses: (1) intended vegetation treatment methods, (2) anticipated benefits for mule deer, sage-grouse and fire resilient plant communities, and (3) follow-up restoration action to be taken. This information will be presented to the public from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Lodge at Summer Lake located at 53460 Highway 31, Summer Lake, Oregon.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Coos Bay District is looking for volunteers to participate in the 16th annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). National Public Lands Day has become the largest volunteer hands-on effort of its kind in the country.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Border Field Office will be hosting a public meeting to begin collaboratively developing fuel treatment design features of the proposed Republic Forest Health Project. The meeting will be held at the Ferry County Fairgrounds, Carousel Building, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12.
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM's) new Northwest (NW) Oregon Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet at the BLM Salem District Office at 1717 Fabry Road SE on October 21st. A field trip for RAC members will occur on October 22nd. The October 21st meeting, which is open to the public, will primarily be an orientation for the 15 new members of the RAC. A public comment period will be provided from 3:00 to 3:30 PM.
The Bureau of Land Management will webcast the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board's day-and-a-half meeting set for March 4-5 in Oklahoma City. The live webcast, accessible at http://www.blm.gov/live/, will stream online the proceedings of the Advisory Board, which meets Monday, March 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., local time.
The Bureau of Land Management will partially close the Big Pines campground in the Yakima River Canyon from Tuesday Nov. 5 through Friday Nov. 8. The closure is to allow for the planting of twelve to fifteen large Ponderosa Pine trees at campsites that currently have no shade, providing for an improved recreation experience and riparian habitat.
The Bureau of Land Management will hold two events in honor of the annual Oregon Archaeology Celebration. The goal of the Celebration is to inspire and inform people about Oregon's prehistoric and historic heritage with different activities presented throughout the state during September and October. These events provide a fun learning experience for everyone.

The Bureau of Land Management will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, April 12, at 1pm, to discuss the release of the Proposed Resource Management Plan (RMP) for Western Oregon. The BLM is proposing a path forward for local communities in Western Oregon with a plan that will increase job growth, tourism and recreation, and timber harvest, while offering strong protections for the northern spotted owl, listed fish species, and water resources.
