The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District released the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Vantage to Pomona Heights Transmission Line Project (Project). The Project is a 61 to 67 mile, 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that would provide more reliable power to the Yakima region. The new line would run from the Bonneville Power Administration's existing Vantage substation east of Wanapum Dam, on the Columbia River, to Pacific Power's existing Pomona Heights substation east of Selah, Washington. The transmission line would potentially cross federal lands administered by the BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Army - Joint Base Lewis McChord Yakima Training Center, Washington State Department of Natural Resources land, and private lands. Most of the project would be constructed on private lands.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District Office will be hosting a public meeting at 6:00pm, May 8, 2014 to answer questions about an upcoming prescribed fire in the Pierre Lake area of Stevens County, Washington. The meeting will be located at the Stevens County Fire District 8 station at 3585 Sand Creek Road, Kettle Falls, WA 99141. The prescribed fires will occur on two burning days between May 12 to June 13.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District is pleased to report that the boat launch area at Coffeepot Lake is now open and available for use by boat trailers. Unusually low lake levels led to the boat launch closure. Due to lots of spring runoff, concrete obstacles have been removed and the boat launch is again open to trailer-launched boats.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District has lifted the regulated fire closure on public lands administered by the BLM in eastern Washington. The termination of the regulated fire closure will be effective October 14, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. in the following counties: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District has identified a new route alternative for the Vantage to Pomona Heights 230kV electrical transmission line project. As a result of public comments received after the January 2013 release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) identifying a Preferred Alternative the BLM, Pacific Power, and the Yakima Training Center (YTC) met and identified a new route that is located largely on YTC land.
